GORGEOUS 1966 Otis Touch Sensitive Traction Elevators at The Fairmont Empress, Victoria, BC

Now this is what I call a REAL Elevator!!!! When I say REAL Elevator, sure a modern elevator technically may be a real elevator, but they are so cheaply made and have plain, ugly stainless steel cabs. My definition of a REAL elevator is a High Quality Vintage Elevator with a Cool Cab!!! And these totally meet and exceed my definition of what a REAL Elevator TRULY is!!!! BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS Otis Touch Sensitive Elevators with HANDCARVED Wooden cabs, Wood Floors, Chandeliers, EPIC CLASSIC LEVELING, And EPIC, Audible Classic Door Operator Hum on the left elevator!!! Plus the fixtures, COPs, Handrails, Otis Globes and Door Track and Indicators are Brass and are in MINT PRISTINE Condition!!!! And do they make stuff this anymore? HELL NO, THEY DON'T!!!! IT'S SO SAD!!!! These are GORGEOUS!!! And they are in such EXCELLENT Shape and Run SO SMOOTHLY, yet these are over 50 YEARS OLD, Cabs 110 Years Old!!!! This building is from 1908, and these were originally Manually Controlled Otis Fensom, but fully modernized and automated in 1966 with Otis Touch Sensitive during "Operation Teacup", a massive renovation done in 1966 to the Empress to save it from being demolished. These also have BEAUTIFUL Art Deco Doors and EPIC Mechanical Bells and Overall, these are just GORGEOUS, and some of the most BEAUTIFUL Elevators I have EVER SEEN in my LIFE, with the other contenders for that being the Smith Tower in Seattle, the Henry B Plant Hall Tampa, the Asheville City Hall and Flatiron in Asheville, and The Chateau Frontenac before those got replaced (rode those prior to my visit in 2017, in 2006). Sadly though, these BEAUTIES only have less than a year in Service as Thyssenkrupp is modding all of the Elevators here, and once the other bank with Otis Vanity is finished around December, these will get modded, which I SERIOUSLY don't understand WHY THE HELL they would DESTROY these with how good their condition is!! Plus, a HISTORIC Building HAS to have a HISTORIC Elevator! But anyways, with that all being said, enjoy the video, which is likely to be a FINAL RIDE on some of the Most BEAUTIFUL Elevators I've EVER Been on, and some of the most BEAUTIFUL on TH-cam!!!!
Installed: 1908 (Otis Fensom Gated Manually Contoilled)
Modernized/Automated: 1966 (Otis Touch Sensitive Square with New Controllers, Inner Doors, COPs, call stations and Indicators. Exterior Doors and Cabs left as is, motor unknown.)

ElevatorMan5482 ElevExperiencing Productions Hopefully I can get some. And yes, I seriously don't understand why the hell they would waste their money DESTROYING these!! There is also a Fairmont in Quebec City that also had pretty similar elevators, but they were replaced by KONE Early last year.

Perfectly said!! This is a total breath of fresh air. Analog has proven to be far more reliable.
Another bank of Touch-Sensitive elevators bites the dust... (when it happens in 2019)... BUT these elevators should be kept ORIGINAL!! These things run FANTASTIC and have some of the BEST cabs I’ve ever seen!!

@@BCsVators Your time is running out. I saw a comment made on a post another enthusiast who wanted touch buttons made, and the tech modding these said they will start in a couple of months. When the first elevator in the bank will be finished modernization, idk....

Cabs are staying original. New COP’s and the hall buttons have to go because they don’t meet fire code anymore. Other than that it’s getting all new everything. It’s about time as these machines and controllers are extremely tired.

Early this year. They have probably already started. I heard Thyssenkrupp was supposed to start modding these in January 2019, and it's February now....

@@TXMNElevators Thankfully Seattle and Vancouver still have a few buildings with Otis Touch Buttons. I have videos of those places on my channel. Sadly though, the cabs aren't as beautiful as these....

@@TXMNElevators 805 W Broadway In Vancouver I can confirm is still original according to another filmer. The Pinnacle where I stayed is as well, but is in the process of being modernized, but there are 5 elevators and they started the first one 3 months ago and it's still not close to being done so it will be a while till their gone.
The Lloyd Building, the Active Voice Building and Melbourne Tower in Seattle all also have Touch, the last time anyone filmed them was myself when I came last year, but knowing how rare it is for low rise buildings in Seattle to get modded, they are probably still original.

BC'sVators JimLiElevators I messaged them and was told no. I didn't bother asking when I was there as there were no techs or anyone I could find but then again, every Fairmont that has raped their elevators I have been denied from getting parts at!!
