The best Bakewell Tart I had in England was at a fundraising function for the local church. We were touring the church and picked up a few different things to have later. Everything was made by the congregation. The Bakewell Tart looked so good I took a nibble in the car and we ended up eating the whole thing then and there and went back in to buy the lot!

Two things about the recipe, Darren: That pastry recipe ratio works incredibly well. My oven is erratic so I've always got to 'interpret' TH-cam recipes. Yours worked first time without any alterations. Secondly, using amaretti biscuits is a stroke of genius. I've been making Bakewell tarts for 40 years and never once thought of altering the recipe. But the moment I saw what you did, I thought it was so simple it had to work. So, I tried it last night - stroke of genius man, stroke of genius. It's one of those things that's just perfect. Many, many, many thanks.
Definitely make this tart with amaretti crumbled biscuits. I don't buy ceramic beans but when I go to the beach, I pick up small, white stones, bring them home, pop them into a pot of water, bring it to the boil and leave to boil for about 20 minutes, that way all bacteria is killed. I store them in a tin, ready for use, does the trick.
Sounds like a great addition with the amaretti biscuits! I would caution to avoid removing shells, rocks, etc. from the beach as this can significantly disrupt the ecosystem. Shells and stones provide homes and hiding places for animals, and even help anchor seagrass.

I am going to try your recipe soon though, for myself and my English roots!
I've made two dishes of yours - Parsnip Soup and Stuffed Bell peppers - Princess Diana's favorites. They were both excellent. I also made not from here, Apple Crumble with homemade custard. Delish on all of them!

Dear Royal Chef Darren thank you for sharing this video I love all your videos and wanted to say we have always enjoyed eating these little mini cakes we'd buy from our supermarket in Australia and wondered how they could taste almost exactly like home backed cakes. Then when you mentioned Mr Kipling we saw that those cakes are Mr Kipling cakes we've enjoyed 🎂 🥮 I look forward to baking this recipe:)

Loved watching this - made my first one after 40 years of my husband asking me to make one 'because his Mom did every Christmas'. I think mine turned out really well - but he is insisting that there was topping on it that was white - but NOT icing - and not just icing sugar. He's pretty sure it was a bumpy white topping. My guess is that it was indeed icing, and the "bumps" were from the almonds underneath. If you've heard of anything different other than icing, or the icing sugar, I sure would be open to attempting this again next Christmas.

Pâte sucrée + jam + frangipane + amaretto biscuits. I've saved you 11'. You can perfectly substitute almond essence with Amaretto liquor.
