I really like the Dior lipsticks and glosses, but I avoid buying Dior now because I think their move to clean beauty is cynical cash grab. A shelf life of 6 months is not OK with me. I think consumers are waking up to the fact that ‘clean’ beauty is nothing but a marketing tactic.

I remember this in the denim industry as well since I come from the fashion side of things first. Denim really got attacked because it uses so much water in its production. And some companies were really authentic in how they addressed it and others were just jumping on a bandwagon for Marketing, money and a cash grab. I think the same as beauty as well. Brands like mob beauty are really doing it right but, with Dior, I can’t help but feel that it’s inauthentic.

Hi Rebecca! Happy 2024! So, to answer your questions: the 6-month shelf life is discouraging me from buying as much as before (if others are doing the same, it’s not good for sales); I prefer the light eye shadow on you (not only does it light up your face but it’s far better for workplace, anytime/anyplace looks - who goes grocery shopping wearing glam makeup? ) Finally, I prefer the lighter lip shade on you. Thank you for this Dior Galore video. (Love your videos!)

With the price tag and only a 6 month shelf life, it’s a little harder to swallow although I typically don’t go by self life. Will be interesting to see how they are affected after the expiration date. For now I will wait for those updates although I am loving all the looks on you ❤

Deb, my perception of winter is always the Twin Cities. I spent so much time there in my late teens and early 20s that, in my mind, that is winter. So you’ll laugh that we went to Chicago and I expected it to be entirely frigid. there’s nothing quite as cold as Twin Cities cold. I suppose Winnipeg But I should say in the US it’s not gonna get much colder. Duluth was pretty cold though. Ha ha

I really hope they last more than 6 months 🙏 and if it doesn't, they need to consider making products smaller at a lower price, if people will have to repurchase every 6 months. I'll be honest i think that will put me off brands. Loved your eye looks Rebecca 😊

    • @belindafischer2920

I am so annoyed that Dior has basically forced all their customers to only use their items for six months straight, due to it expiring! Thats is wild to me!

The first lipstick is gorgeous, and so is the backstage palette! I am anxiously waiting reviews to see how Dior lasts after that 6 month exp is up. I am so drawn to a few newer things, but want to spend the $$ on products that will hold up for a while, much longer than 6 months. These colors are so flattering on you!!!

So far, I realize that my six month foundations are doing fine and foundations can get really gross if they go bad. Mine are definitely over six months. So far I think it looks like we might be able to push this past six months. But I’m not sure it’s infinite. My old products with preservatives in them, my goodness, I’m going on years. I bet we can’t do that here

@@NotFitforPrintBeauty I don't get the negativity around aerosols. Not all aerosols contain gas propellants (which I think is the cause of a lot of the dislike). Many years ago Ren skincare did a gorgeous rosewater facial spray in an aerosol can that was powered by compressed air. The spray was beautifully fine, just as good as anything propelled by gas.

I think the magnetic closure on the lipsticks is a huge upgrade. I love the Dior Forever mattes (not reformulated…yet) but the click closure and super light cap feels very cheap on those and they are not cheap. I like the bit of metallic finish on the first lipstick a lot!
I like that it looks like you could do several different types of looks with the new Backstage palette. I haven’t tried a backstage palette since they reformulated. I’m still waiting for the one that speaks to me. I wish the Silver Essentials had not been limited edition. I regret not getting it, but I was in the middle of holiday shopping when it came out and it wasn’t the time to buy a palette for me. (And really…anything named “essential” should be in the permanent line, right?! 😂
I know it’s for spring, but the quint just seems too light for me.

Now since they have changed the formulations and the exp. dates I am just going to buy very few items in general because other brands are doing the same and to my humble opinion it is a marketing thing, I don't really believe that they care that much about the environment I think more about the sales.

Hello Rebecca, thanks for the informative video as always and you’re really lovely. May I share what I know? The symbol on the box that says 6M means “period after opening” which is the period of time you can expect the product to perform as well as when first opened. However this is not the expiration date, we don’t know when the products will expire, so we can still use them until they go so bad that we can’t use anymore. My friend told me this and she works for Eucerin. I googled and found the same info. Hope you could help clarify whats right ❤❤

Ever since Dior changed their formula their shadows have been a pass for me. I just don’t like the new texture. I think with powders as they get old the pigment begins to fade. I would be more concerned with mold and bacteria growing in the cream and liquid products. That said, I usually don’t buy Dior lipsticks as most are scented. To me they have a strong perfume smell that I also taste. I’m sorry to be such a Debby Downer! After all of that negativity I must say I love your videos. You really brighten my day.😊❤

That pink quint is really super cute, dear Rebecca, looks so beautiful on you!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩Expiry after 6 months, yes heard about that, did not purchase Dior makeup, or did i? Yes i purchased 1 Christmas quint in the more brown/gold shades, that was it. But sensitive skin and sensitive eyes here, i also use a mascara 3 months, max 4 months. Eyeshadows, i mostly don't read, i smell, i feel, i remember when i bought them, and powder eyeshadows, most powder eyeshadows you can use upto 4 years! For the safety of my eyes i mostly choose 3 years. There is only 1 Chanel quad i cannot say goodbye to, that is the one from Holiday 2019, the Lumiere et Opulence 342, i know, i don't want infected eyes, but it's one of the most beautiful eyeshadow quads/palettes that i own. That's why i purchase less makeup and more skincare, but makeup is so much fun, and 6 months upto expiry not! But loved the video! If i WOULD purchase this cute light quint (saw already a reduction action here in NL last weekend for it) i would say upto 1.5 year or 2 years at least. I have sensitive eyes, but thank goodness also my nose and eyes to decide if it goes or not, simple. Loved this video, very beautiful, thanks, have a wonderful day!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤

@@NotFitforPrintBeauty thanks, i try, do not always succeed, but make progress! The expiration date, i understand that European Union in Brussels want to protect us as consumers, but what's next, cosmetics that expire within 2 monts, i think than? Yes, when not attached with glue to a website (like the gorgeous Chanel concealer in the jar, and the beautiful Parure Baroque Chanel quad for example), almost all these products end up in a sale, and mostly quick here, at ICI Paris XL and/or Douglas. But only EU brands. A brand like Chantecaille, that is of course more American than European, never goes on sale here in NL at Douglas, i always purchase it from Niche Beauty Germany, Cult Beauty UK, or others. Not interested in spending more for a lipstick that's not going to last more than 6 months.
Also I keep palettes to use in different seasons and no not going to buy one that won't show up or be good in 6 months.
Yes I care about the environment, I do, I really do. Know what is good for the environment? An eye shadow palette you can pick out of your collection in the Fall and it lasts for years. I know sounds crazy to some but a palette that's a keeper and can be relied on works for me. Most people I know who go by expiration dates throw them in the garbage rather than taking them back to Sephora which sounds easy but seems not as easy as some would think.
The pink looks beautiful on you. Looks way too light for me. I'm considering buying it!
Ps I think only problem with the regular 5 pan Dior palettes is most to not deliver the pigmentation many of us got spoiled by with new brands. Pigmentation became a trend. Depends what you;re looking for...or prioritize. I do a lot of recycling and make decisions often on environmental issues but when it comes to a splurge on a Dior eye shadow palette it's not high up and especially with regard to lipsticks. Thats me. Thanks. Love Dior was thrilled to see this review!!

Creating more waste is a Cash grab till they can plant that packaging and stuff in the earth and it grow flowers or break down its a cash grab. 😂
I have cool neutrals so im wondering if i need it but definitely kinda want it but i think their is other things in want more . Im trying to be more mindful this year and buy what i am really excited about that i know ill get use out of. My husband happen to peak in my pallet drawer and almost died 😂 He was like Heather this is rediculas you have 2 eyes and makeup goes bad i said dont say crap to me when u have a room full of expensive skateboards that take up alot of room and cost more then my eyeshadow pallets.
I have been sitting here strssing over the new Chanel De Nuit qusd at 5:30 am the other day it was on Nordstrom i put it in the basket had my info in and checked out then got a note back saying my items are not available sold out talk about a major melt down 😭 it was the start of the dreaded pms too which made it worse. I am so tired of hunting these Chanel releases it takes the joy out of it and every single thing they been putting out is limited so its like u got 5 secs to get some of this stuff or ur SOL . Well i went off about Chanel when this was a Dior video lol i think it was because i want a Chanel quad more then the Dior and im trying to be good this year 😂 Both the Dior pallets look beautiful on you !!

Regarding Chanel, my sales associate is out after knee surgery so I didn't get my usual text and, by the time I was made aware, my local boutique was sold out. I decided, this time, not to get involved in this whole wild goose chase after Chanel products. Frankly, it just gets boring. When it's on their website in the US or stays at Nordstrom, I'll grab it but the whole game is too much. I TOTALLY agree with you.

Hi Rebecca, really enjoyed this video, thank you. 😊 Dior has always been a favourite brand of mine ever since I first started buying it in the late 1980s (oh that makes me feel old ...). I hadn't realised the expiry dates were so short now - I've never taken any notice of these dates before and never experienced any problems as a result, but I am concerned that the dates are so short now. Who on earth is going to finish up a palette of eyeshadows in 6 months?! It is counterintuitive too - all this "clean" beauty is sold as being better for the environment and better for us ... but if we have to start chucking barely used makeup out after 6 months and buying new pieces, doesn’t that create MORE waste (that will undoubtedly end up in landfill) and use up MORE of the earth's precious resources? None of this adds up and the cynic in me thinks this is just Dior (and plenty of other brands) jumping on the latest bandwagon. It will be interesting to see if anything unpleasant does happen with this makeup once the stated 6 month lifespan expires .....

  • @krisushi1

Rebecca, is the Smokey Essentials Backstage Palette a Limited Edition? I've seen it on YT but no-one ever mentions this. The same for the two Quints. These Quints came out a few years ago as Popeline (pink) & Organza ( peach) but never came to Australia. It was when I was looking my absolute worst when I had broken my predominant arm in three places and lost a whole bunch of weight that I couldn't afford to lose. I had to keep to wearing pale shadows as to not accentuate how gaunt my face looked. Imagine my disappointment when they never came. Yet, after getting Byredo's Remembrance Palette, I doubt I would need these now. I am curious though as to how much these new ones are like the original. I prefer Dior's Addict Lipsticks and haven't used the others. Not happy that the prices are continuing to rise despite supposedly having to throw the products out after 6mths. If that's truly how long they're going to last, I'll just buy from the myriad of other brands. I thought you may have picked up the seven Maximisers Dior has just dropped.🤦🏼‍♀️ This is getting ridiculous!
PS. I picked up the Valentino Flip Palette from Selfridges when reduced! It was the same shades as yours, the other had sold out. Bought a tonne of Valentino Lipsticks, Prada Lipsticks, Isamaya Ffrench Wild Star Eye Palette plus a Lipstick & three Lip-liners, ND Biba Palette and more. I've even got about eleven Guerlain Lipsticks and Cases on their way from within Australia! How's that for jumping in the deep end? I've now got all of the PML's Motherships, as soon as Decadence arrives this week! That was the one I wanted the most and ended up being the last I got and only because Pat 'opened her vault'. It's not an easy Mothership to ever find, yet the deed is finally done! So much for me saying that I had no intentions of collecting them. I thought about it and saw that the prices were continuing to increase and thought I'd get everything out of the way now. I even scored her 6-pan Bronze Ambition and the ND Gold Palette from eBay! The seller was so lovely that she gave me a full-sized lipstick from Pat, which I've never tried before. You never know the things you can find on the second hand market place. Scoring the Burberry Runway Palette was certainly a coup, considering Isamaya was too busy to bother with bringing out a Christmas Collection which I wasn't happy about. To say that I'm overwhelmed by cosmetics is the understatement of the year! The brakes are on until temptation overtakes me.🇦🇺💖👩🏼‍🎨

@@NotFitforPrintBeauty I've been watching some make-up videos whilst lazing in bed and it has really hit home just how many new palettes or anything else for that matter, I don't need. As soon as I saw Popeline and Organza I definitely wanted them due to not getting them a few years ago. Well, a lot has happened in a few years and I doubt very much that I need these shades at all. With all the new competition Dior has now, I find myself drifting away and opting for brands I'm yet to try that aren't going to fall to pieces in 6mths. I'll still love my Backstage Palettes but the Quints are far from a necessity. I bought a bunch of them until the reformulation started and haven't touched any new ones since. What's the point in reformulating products, if it's just going to turn customers away? I know that I can't afford luxury make-up that only lasts 6mths, that's insane! You'll have to tell me how the Valentino Flip Palette is going after you've had time to use it. I think this is great for travel or for just including everything I'd like a palette to have, such as my base shade. Those Guerlain Lipsticks and Cases sure have some weight to them! Considering how much the cases cost on special compared to Dior's Addict Cases, Guerlain wins hands down. I'm just thrilled that I finally got my Prada and Rabanne, despite having to sign up to yearly shipping from Selfridges. I've got some great bargains from them, those we don't get here. Does your hubby do the traditional Scottish welcoming of the New Year? When I was seeing one whom came from a very Scottish family on both sides who immigrated to Australia, I spent a New Year with them and they made the female with the darkest hair present go outside - me. When it hits midnight, I had to knock on the door and when it was opened, it meant they had let the New Year in. Hi Rebecca! A 6 month shelf life might not be bad for someone that solely uses said product everyday. Lol However, for any of us that have a larger collection, 6 months shelf life is too short. I recently picked up their Lip Glow Lip Balm and I must say it’s not worth $40. The packaging is a light, cheap plastic and the color is very sheer and not very moisturizing, imo. I thought it’d be a bit more pigmented and that’s why I justified spending $40 on it. Lol I know that the lip oils are all the hype right now but I can’t bring myself to pay $40 for a lip oil. They’re too similar to lip glosses to me and I have plenty of lip glosses, that I find moisturizing, that I love and aren’t $40. 😂Also, in regard to the short shelf life, Wayne Goss blush/highlight duos are also a 6 month shelf life. I vividly remember that being the reason I didn’t pick one of those up. I was super interested but when I found out they only had a 6 month shelf life for the price and size, I passed. I always thought if they were half the size and price, I’d be ok with the 6 month shelf life. So for Dior, I guess I won’t be picking up any lipsticks. Lol With cream products, I find shelf life matters more. They tend to stink when they go bad. I think powders last longer. At the end of the day, when it comes to these high end brands, we’re mostly paying for that name. (I’m not saying it’s bad but just saying that I realize that when I speak of the price 😂) Now, I’m still contemplating picking up one of those Chanel snowflake blushes. The embossment gets me!😂😂 Though, I still have burned in my brain that Chanel blush that was a light pinky peach with the double CC’s that didn’t show up on anyone and everyone was so disappointed by it. 😂 Anyways, sorry for my long rant! You are the first reviewer I've seen who has mentioned that all of these reformulated Dior products expire in 6 months. They've raised their prices at the same time. The "clean" products I've tried before, like Kosas, went really bad in a few months. I had to throw away several foundations because of it, and I'm done. Same with Bite Beauty lipsticks.
I Want preservatives in my makeup! I don't share it, so not worried one bit about contamination. And, if a palette stops performing, I'll pitch it. But I have a few eye palettes that are years old that are still aces. So I'm looking for products that last on the face and on the shelf.
I was already ticked off at the reformulations at both Chanel and Dior, before I knew they expired in 6 months. Not only do these Dior and Chanel people talk to each other, they are price fixing. You bet this is a cash grab! So hello SUQQU, Cle de Peau, and others. Cle de Peau is far superior in performance and finishes, when it comes their powder products, to both Chanel and Dior. SUQQU has really interesting color stories and also has terrific performance. And there are many other brands that I will be revisiting.
I'm not that impressed by logos. I want value and performance. $49-58 lipsticks are a terrible value. $195 and $500 lipsticks are an IQ test. I can do better elsewhere and will.
Sorry about the rant, but I've been watching what these two brands have done over the past 12-18 months with shock and awe. Shocked that these brands have ruined great formulations. And awe that they would raise prices by anywhere from 30-100% for no reason except greed. This shorter shelf life just puts nails in the coffin of the love I Had for these brands.

Dior trying to be clean beauty is a huge cash grab. Dior has never been known for their commitment to clean beauty so I can’t imagine those who rejected Dior as an option suddenly rushing to Dior because of their attempt to cater to clean beauty at the expense of long time customers. A six month expiry is ridiculous and assumes someone is only using Dior, but most of us don’t use just one brand exclusively for all their makeup needs.
I LOVED the Dior backstage shadows. I am
glad I am not alone in missing the primer. I truly enjoyed the primer in the palette which was far more useful than the a super light shade that will not work, so it’s one less item available for use. I love their lipsticks, especially being refillable AND those cases, which I have a few, which I can use up pretty quickly, so the 6 month expiry doesn’t bother me with that product.
While I’m disappointed with the changes, I have other options and Dior will sadly be less of a brand option for me going forward. I will say I’m not an anti-clean beauty brand but when a brand just shifts abruptly in hopes of expanding their market share but not all of us are looking to Dior as a clean beauty brand. I’m not saying I want to use makeup with asbestos or lead but I am less appreciative of removing preservatives and reformulating their entire brand. Why not create a new clean beauty line within the brand to see if that market bites without infuriating long time customers.

@@NotFitforPrintBeauty Right, it turns me off in a big way. The mother earth types will never be into Dior, and that’s ok. Yes, I want products they are beautiful and are not trying to kill me, but I expect authenticity and Dior is giving anything but authenticity. Sure I love their makeup but they are on a hard pause for me right now. I can easily finish a lippie from them within six months but anything else is nearly impossible for me.

TOTALLY. They have an honored tradition of perfume and cosmetics. This feels...too..."get out quick" for the longevity of the house...or the SUPPOSED longevity, you know?@@traciewarren1070

Oh I totally agree. Can you imagine buying all of this for your kit and it doesn’t make it a year? You couldn’t stay in business. You would spend all of your money repurchasing Makeup.

Will never buy cosmetics that have only a 6 month usage date. Not practical for the consumer. You can count me as an unhappy beauty consumer.

Yes. When companies like mob beauty are doing seriously sustainable things for 24 months before expiration, the six-month feels disingenuous.

I don’t buy Dior since the formula change , by the time I get to my makeup it will be expired. No thank you

It’s not gonna expire by 6 months! Lol they just want you to repurchase sooner.

You make a really good point. With no preservatives it might actually expire very soon. It might not be six months but it could definitely be under a year. With no preservatives this will get interesting

I don’t think 6 months it’s gonna expire, that just spells out them trying to get a repurchase! Who’s gonna use up an entire shadow or foundation in that amount of time…😅
