Thanks you for this video. A real eye opener. I am British/Nigerian - The first and last time I visited Peckham was in 1982/1983 and Peckham was not like this. It was mostly Caribbean back then. As a Nigerian, I am impressed, and may visit Peckham again. Wow! Thanks for the video.
So proud of these Nigerian Businesses!

The Suya guy is right. Peckham is like a tourist center when I visited many years ago. I felt at home and happy. There are many Nigerians It’s like Chateau rouge or chateau d’eau in Paris ,Belmer in Amsterdam, queens in the United States or Brooklyn, south Tel Aviv in israel , Zongo in Cotonou. Like Peckham , you get to see many Nigerians or/and Nigerian shops in these places. feels like home instantly. 😂😂😂

I remember Obalende Suya in the 1990s. I lived in Surrey Quays, Lewisham, and Deptford back then. so I am very familiar with Peckham. Bus 36 was the naija bus those days. Good old days. see the DAVID RODIGAN poster at the end. That guy is the don of reggae. No one CAN touch him. The memory of Ram Jam on capital fm, kiss fm and BBC 1 extra.

I LOVE MY PECKHAM, I LOVE NIGERIA, I LOVE THIS EPISODE ....Every single business owner in the video thanked God for the opportunity they have to set up a business in Peckham. This video is so impactful, some of these business owners are 1st, 2nd, generations migrants from Nigeria and they have started business boosting the economy and sharing culture bringing the diversity the UK is always screaming they want to see more of! I love this!! Thank you DJ Abass.. A a Peckhamite I can say you hit all the Nigerian eateries on the head, I have eaten from every single one of these restaurants bar none , watching your visits and listening to these discussions it was so emotional to see a few of the owners who I also know, Like Lolak Mummy is a great veteran in Peckham she has served us meal after meal for years, love her. Her ewa agown is something else, Amazing great job DJ Abass, but I am questioning your Yoruba oh hmmm LOL @mytastynaija Rocks

I moved to Peckham 1998 and I never regreted it. A lot was going at that like today. Culture and foods. That place was proper and fun for us all. Hair salon, Restaurant, Market everywhere was vibe. I missed those days

OBALENDE SUYA was our first Suya spot back to the late 80s. The Egba lady that served me many times the extremely spicy rice dish - 'LAFENWA' went on to open a second restaurant at Hackney.
    LONG LIVE Naija PECKHAM-IANS.
We have some other West African citizens in the area too.
I am waiting for the day the Nigerian High Commissioner would recognise the input of Nigerians to this vibrant part of the UK.
Love to all Nigerian citizens -
    Yomi ❤

Peckham is really the melting point for Nigerians a home away from home.
The social connections as a community for blacks is actually being lost because of capitalism 😢.

Knowing Pecknam if all that gold is genuine that shop would of been done!

    • @NikeGiwa
      @NikeGiwa 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's more than likely to be real gold ..the things is most of the mandems and roadmen in peckham are young lads of Nigerian or African heritage ...these business are owned by their parent or relatives . They will dare not rob these businesses....have you ever heard of an African shop in general getting done ? I haven't..

It wasn't so in the eighties. The whites started moving away when Africans/ Jamaicans population started increasing in the eighties.

I have lived in Peckham forever. Not ones have I ever heard Peckham been called the capital of Nigeria. You wish it were. But it’s not. I have never seen anybody selling cooked food next to a gutter in Peckham, but I have seen it even in Abuja that I love so much.

Nigerians had a lot of Nigerian shops selling Nigeria foodstuffs. It is a crying shame that only one or two shops are functioning now. Why is this?
