    Ah mate I love the macro algae! I haven't finished looking at your videos, but if you haven't done so already it'd be cool to get a video on all the macro algaes and your experiences with them!

      Nice idea! Sorry taken a while to get back to you. My experience with the Caulerpa filiformis especially, hasn’t been good. I actually stripped that tank, after the Caulerpa dumped out its spores for the third time and collapsed. Big shame because sure I loved the way it looked and moved with the current. My other macro tank is holding in there despite myself being very distracted by the big Palau build.

      I’ll revisit the macro marine tank after I’ve finished with the Palau build I think

    Great video! I always look forward to your videos, I have spent a lot of time down in that area snorkelling and love the marine algae, you have done a wonderful job with that tank and I hope it goes well for you.

    Looks great mate - I've really enjoyed this series of yours! Great to see someone else has a similar appreciation for the macroalge environments we have here around Flatrock, Boulders and Lennox... 👌

      Nice!!! I travelled specifically to Flatrock to collect the Caulerpa. A great camping park there. For some reason the Caulerpa filiformis is found around Ballina, skips the coastline around Coffs , and then from Newcastle to Sydney. Go figure

    Incredible macroalgae aquariums ❤️.
    Enoplosus armatus is like saltwater Pterophyllum scalare 😍.
    Can you tell me the name of shoal of fish ?
    I discovered your channel recently, a great discovery 😃.
    Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹.

      Thanks Lorenzo! It’s amazing having such easy contact with aquarists across the world. The shoal of fish in the tank with the old wives are juvenile mullet, which are there as live food! I don’t like to routinely feed live foods, but the old wives are a bit tricky at the moment. They are only taking bloodworms, and my sis, and one is eating pellets.

    I would love a saltwater tank, but living in Alice Springs I have no support and the only way I can get supplies is online and wait weeks for delivery lol 😂

      Can you get in contact with Dave from Aquagreen in Darwin? He might be able to get you some interesting inshore gobies and who knows what else. He could leave them with a road train heading south!

    Beautiful tank displays 😍👌🏻💯
    What is that foam spray you were using for the scape and why?
    Thanks for sharing ✌🏻

    • @australianaquarist
      @australianaquarist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey QCR, the foam is just expanding polyurethane foam . Just the regular construction grade, though I believe you can get black pond foam also.
      I’ve found that in aquascapes where I wish to build up areas in height with stone, rather than using additional filler stones or gravel, I use the foam as it is obviously lighter. It fills the gaps if you were to put aquascaping soils behind, as well as doing a great job in adhering the rock work together.

      @australianaquarist2342 thanks for the info. Had no clue you could use that in marine tanks.

    Amazing, question here, how thick is the glass. ? Is it tempered glass?

    • @australianaquarist
      @australianaquarist  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi
      If you are referring to the old wife tank, with the Caulerpa ? - it’s 12mm annealed glass.
      The 12ft turtle tank out the front has 12mm tempered and heat soaked glass. If I’m not referring to the tank you’re asking about, please let me know.

    Amazing tanks. You mind if I ask what type of foam adhesive are you using?

    • @australianaquarist
      @australianaquarist  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That was just standard closed cell construction spray foam from the hardware. A better choice may be the black waterfall foam for ponds, but I haven’t had issues with standard yellow beige polyurethane foam

  • @Rosscobi

    Hi, what lighting are you using over your tanks? any chance you can do a video on this and some DIY alternatives? Thanks for creating great content

    • @australianaquarist
      @australianaquarist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhhh…. You’ve touched a nerve there Rosscobi! That’s the one piece of equipment I struggle with, especially in regards to big tanks. Without having the budget for many popular brand lights, which in Australia cost around $1400 each (Radion, Kessil) , I’ve had to “make do “ over the years.
      I’ll go through the tanks for you.
      Turtle tank - sunlight
      Estuary Tank - Viparspectra LEDs
      Twinspot Goby Tank - Illumagic Blaze x mini
      Macroalgae Moray Tank - Viparspectra
      Old Wife Tank - 250 w metal halide in a warehouse highbay fixture 14000k
      Mixed Reef ( broken down now) - 1 x Kessil a500x, 2 x Viparspectra, 2x T5 on each side ( what a science experiment that was!!)
      New plywood paludarium reef build - sunlight through skylights, and I actually haven’t settled on a led for it yet! I intend to use mainstay reef lighting, but need to figure out how to save for it!!
      I’m thinking I’ll use Illumagic Blaze x ‘s, as I can swap out some led pucks for freshwater ones over the island shrubs. I might have to look into horticulture grow lights for nighttime also

    • @australianaquarist
      @australianaquarist  ปีที่แล้ว

      I also believe the Illumagic blaze x has alternative lenses that I could use, to give a narrower beam and therefore mount the lights up a bit higher. A bit like swapping the 30 degree lens on a Kessil. I definitely want to get the lighting up and out of the eyeline of the rock island !

    • @australianaquarist
      @australianaquarist  ปีที่แล้ว

      DIY Alternatives is a bit tricky for reef tanks, with the corals needing specific spectrum. I have used daylight 6500K T5 lighting over planted tanks, sourced from the hardware store.
      I’ve also seen eBay LED panels used over fish holding systems in a LFS , and the daylight Kelvin really brought out the fishes colours. This wouldn’t work for corals though

    What type of expanding foam do you use, the regular from the hardwarestore ?

    • @australianaquarist
      @australianaquarist  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that was just Bostik and Parfil expanding foam. I’ll probably be using the black waterfall foam in my Seaway build coming up. Less work covering it up, and a bit more resilient I’ve heard

      I know right! They are good looking fish, just a bit finicky. Only one is eating pellets, and the remainder eat only frozen bloodworms and live shrimp and juvenile bait fishes
