Rust: "The ritual murder of Dora Lang" "...this looks like some sort of ritual." I kid, I kid...I can't imagine trying to take in content and and produce solid engagement at the same time. My one track mind would melt.
Due to the time jumping back and forth in this series you have to really pay attention. To me, this season is one of the best "limited series" ever produced. That being said, I know people - who I know are not good at paying attention - who don't like it nearly as much so as me.
Whats the banana shirt about? That like an Andy Warhol/Velvet Underground shirt or somekind? Reminds me of them.... Anyway enjoy this season; one of the best in TV history. Always happy to watch people dive down this rabbit hole. It is Red Herring as in the fish. Comes from some old story where a boy uses a red herring to distract a dog away from a rabbit.
You're in Carcosa now, little priest... A lot of Rust's dialogue is taken from the works of horror writer and philosopher Thomas Ligotti, and Nietzsche, if you're a reader then I'd recommend their works. If you enjoyed this series, I also highly recommend a British TV trilogy of films called 'The Red Riding Trilogy' (2009), which is almost a blueprint of what this show is, a haunting story with a stacked - before they were famous - cast, and incredible writing from Tony Grisoni. Also, S2 is underrated. Should still watch it. It just had production issues, the HBO bosses - out of pure greed - rushed it, it's a pipe bomb to S1, it is an anthology after all. Colin Farrell steals it. And it's still greater than a lot of shows that are on TV today. Bad men, strong women. LA noir. Great soundtrack. You'd enjoy it.
@@deadNightwatchman I see it as a very, very loose adaptation of James Ellroy’s ‘The Big Nowhere’. Pizzolatto says he’s never read it - which is bullshit considering how similar it is to the show, like he did with S1 and Ligotti - but if you disconnect yourself from it being TD, you can appreciate it a lot more. I hate HBO for rushing it, but there are some incredible performances, great production, an eerie electronic-ambient score, Farrell takes you places with his addiction storyline too. There’s some painful dialogue, but I put that down to Nic fucking with the producers, as well as it being a little love letter to classic neo-noir.
