Watched earlier tonite. Was great. EM certainly knows how to critique a movie and should be sole TCM host. Don't know why author of book insisted on giving Ida's role a stutter. Would have been just as good without that. Sometimes you want a happy ending but Hollywood just can't do it.

Never minded Lupino as a leading lady, but Dane Clark could never do enough of whatever it took for me to tolerate him as a leading man. Has nothing to do with physical appearance, either. I find Clark Gable less appealing to look at than Dane Clark (forgive the sameness of their names-that sameness has nothing to do with why I chose to compare the two), but I also find the persona of the latter to be a bit wanting.
Also-and I know I've brought this up but the way it irks me begs me to bring it up repeatedly-I can't express more how much I detest the updated intro to Noir Alley. It may be snappier (snappiness is the only thing I could think of why anyone would choose to implement the updated version over the original version, which was, I think it's fair to say, an undisputed masterpiece, both visually and tonally), but that's about all that it's got going for itself. Whoever made Noir Alley do a refresh on that intro should have his or her job refreshed with someone who shared the former occupantʼs aesthetic tastes. Because the new intro is complete trash compared to the original. There, I've stated my peace. And I'll go on stating it probably, but hopefully not to the uploader's annoyance. :D
