What is a MOBA?
Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas, or MOBAs for short, originated as a sub-genre of the RTS (Real-Time Strategy) genre. Because of this, in most MOBA games, the player takes control of a single character from the isometric (top-down) view akin to most RTS games. Typically, in MOBA games, a player takes control of a single character on one of two teams. Those players choose characters that all have their own abilities, or “kits”. To win, the players must use a combination of abilities, teamwork, and strategy to not only best their opponent, but destroy the opponents main structures. A bonus to the genre is that most MOBAs are free games, which is definitely a contributing factor of the their massive success. The genre has many titles, the largest of which being Defense of the Ancients (DoTA) and DoTA 2, League of Legends (LoL), and most recently SMITE!
What is SMITE?
SMITE is one of the more recent free MOBA games to enter the fray. In SMITE you don’t just choose a character, you choose a god. You’ll instantly feel an attachment to characters like Thor and Zeus because even if you don’t know the lore behind them, you’ve at least heard their names before! What makes SMITE so immersive is Hi-Rez Studios’ inclusion of historical lore into the gods’ abilities, kits, and play styles. Thor and Loki aren’t just characters from Marvel comics and movies. They’re also a part of Norse mythology and you can take control of them in SMITE!
What makes SMITE different?
SMITE takes all of the strategy of the top MOBA games and adds another layer of difficulty by putting you into the action! Unlike most MOBA games, SMITE offers players the chance to experience the MOBA genre they know and love from a third-person perspective. This unique perspective allows for an extremely immersive experience unlike any other game in the genre. While this doesn’t sound like such a big change, once you play it you’ll understand! I am extremely excited for Thoth. His passive and each skill he has really invokes his lore and position as Egyptian God of Wisdom. Well done. I especially love his movement. Having him walk regally, instead of running, was an amazing choice.

Yeah Thoth is the Greek name. The Egyptian version of his name was believed to have been pronounced something like "Chee-how-tee" or "Jee-how-tee". And that's as close as I can get using sounds that exist in English.

TheNuroshi The Greek pronunciation seems to be "Thawth". Put Θώθ into Google translate and have the software pronounce it. Though I suppose it would have been a longer "aw" sound in Ancient Greek (hence the name "omega" = big o, as oposed to the other letter, "omicron" = small o)

Actually datamining has confirmed that Apep will be in the game, just not as a god, as a jungle camp monster in the Clash egyptian rework.

Fahim Rahman I thought as much. I had to repeat the clip multiple times because the phrasing used was "after dashing for five seconds." The pause was ever so slight, so I got excited for a god that could power slide around the map.

I've been waiting for Thoth since early Beta and I'm not disappointed. His design (especially his walk) are on point. Its also a point that Hi-rez managed to not drop the ball in somehow making the Book of Thoth and the Rod of Tahuti (another name for Thoth) undesirable items.

The cooldown on his dash is really long, so I would see him as a god without an escape thus low mobility.

Having a team chasing and you running from them and not getting a second dash in while the enemies did is deadly.
add to that, that his dash (for the full 85) needs another skill which takes atleast 0.5 - 1 sec to cast and then some time to dash away.
The skill is good, but its very situational.

Ellis Daniel I play PC, and no, the god reveals are always uploaded right when they are ready. They can be days before the release, or on the day it releases. The past few releases have been a few days before the release.
It is pronounced "Thaugh-th" Hirez has fixed their pronunciations in the past and probably will here.

Egyptian has no actual pronunciation because we don't know how they said their words. There is no wrong pronunciation.
Alex Reed we do know how they said their words, although there's some margin for error. Thoth is his Greek name, and philologists generally agree that ancient Greeks did not pronounce thetas the way we do. A theta was simply an aspirated /t/. The most accurate way to pronounce Thoth would be similar to the English word "tote" but with a rounder /o/ and greater emphasis on the second /t/.
The Egyptian name of Thoth was "djwty" often anglicized to Tahuti (as in the rod) but more accurately pronounced with a /tsh/ like "tshahuti"

Hirez spreads apart important gods and minor gods so people will constantly be hyped. If they made all the important gods come out first, only the minor ones will be left and thus less hype. Plus camazotz was hyped for YEARS. Set IS coming, as there is a death taunt to him from Isis.

Jhunyor Monttez Since he is a ranged nuke essentially, he has no hard cc in his kit and he has no cc immunity on his ult because his ult only goes on cooldown if fired, so if he cancels it early to bait or is cc'ed out then it does not enter cooldown. Hope this helps!
We don't need more easy gods with 2 escapes and CC immunities.
You can cancel the ult early without starting its cooldown.
If there were CC immunity, you'd have a free Purification without a cd timer.
If a cc cancels his ult, it doesn't go on cool down but you still lose mana.

Clash is getting a revamp with an Egyptian theme. Apep is supposed to be a jungle boss similar to the Fire Giant. Look up Smite Datamining, it's been confirmed.

That Mr. fix-it role Thoth had, as described here at least, sounds like what I've heard about "modern Dr. Strange" in comic storylines. He would pop in to do powerful Mcguffin type things to assist people with magic.

That's a different book. Thoth has many, many, many books. The one he has in-game is "The Book of the Dead" specifically.
