You are so amazing!!! I am so thankful for you and your videos!!! Best Rhino teacher on the internet, I've tried so many different online programs but yours is right to the point and shows us so clearly. Thank you!!
Hi dear PJ. can you teach us all things a bout 3d printer machin? I mean, we need to implement the standards that are required in the design for the 3D printer. I am an industrial designer and I need to print my designs for preliminary testing. So I need to know all the tips that are needed to make with a 3D printer. can you help me? *Thank you in advance*
Thank you for your excellent videos. I appreciate them very much. I have been casting this type of lettered ring or pendant after printing it on my Solus printer. At first many casting failures due to not knowing the spacing thickness and height. I have learned many tricks to insure a good casting and now have learned more from this video. Please do a video to address the casting difficulties and solutions to them. Thank you and be well!
Hi, I have a series video regarding the casting coming up. These casting series are interviewing casting company that has been doing casting for a few decades. Stay tuned and more to come!
PJ Chen Design That is music to my ears. A little about me...I have been making jewelry for the last 47yrs as well as lapidary. I would be happy to assist you in any way as I appreciate your assisting fellow CAD jewelers. I have a small jewelry school on Maui Hawaii, and I wish to pass on my knowledge at a very reduced rate compared to other schools. I teach all aspects especially production by hand fabrication or casting from wax and now resins. How do you get compensation for your videos? If you wish to put a series for jewelry beginners in Rhino 6 or another related software and make it a package I would be happy to license it or sell it to my students or have you do a virtual class w you through zoom.us or Skype? And pay you for your time or any other plan you may be interested in. I lived in Hong Kong, Tsimsachoi side and did big business in Hung Hom, Manew Gai, Summit building for years. I look forward to your reply. Be well, Neil Coshever, coshever@gmail.com 808 2833257 Skype. sanctuary64
Great Video!! I would love to see you make a tutorial on how to make a Rhino Tutorial! LIke what equipment, what software, how to best screen capture Rhino.
Great tutorial! You mention mold making..... it appears to me that the vertical sides of each letter are tapered, becoming wider at the top - in theory this creates undercuts around the perimeter of each letter. You do mention filleting the edges of your model to aid in releasing from a mold. Do you think that the numerous tiny undercuts would also be an issue at this scale?
Thanks to you , MS. Chen, I am gaining a lot of confidence with Rhino. This video is the answer to one question about casting tolerances. I am struggling now to create a photo-like image of my models. Playing with the layer properties ... Can you help with that?
Hi Gwen, If you are talking about photo realistic rendering. I have a playlist for keyshot. Just need to make sure you have small fillet edges on all edges possible.
There are few videos discuss the stone setting with bezel set, prong set, and bead setting. You can check on the "stone setting in Rhino 3D" playlist. I will have a new on-demanded course released in Dec. this year for stone setting in Rhino 3D. It will discuss in depth how to model the jewelry with all type of stone setting.
Thank you very much for your passion to educate people with your knowledge and specialty. I created a ring as I followed steps along with your tutorial but the end of that I am not able to Boolean the model... Any suggestions for me to resolve this issue??
You can check on my playlist for Q/A sessions. I have few videos for boolean issue. if it still not working. you can send your 3dm to my email pj@pjchendesign.com I will take a look for you.
Hey PJ! I have a question for you. I currently use these 3D methods to design my jewelry and then I get it casted at a manufacturer. When designing rings like the one in your video, a size 6 varies greatly to a size 10 or 13, but would feel bad to charge all that much extra just for a larger size. I find that not so typical. Is there something I can do better to ease this variety in pricing? Also when changing sizes, i do not scale up; i re do the process with the correct diameter, but still seems to be almost a $20 difference when jumping sizes. How would you do it ? Thanks PJ your videos are truly valuable.
at the business point. I won't charge for size up on CAD because you can make it up at the materials. plus, you can always 3D print it again when for new customer with the same size. also when you size up from 6-10 or 13. you may want the ring to be thicker. if the 3D scale look propotionally correct. I will just do 3D scale. however, if the thickness is too thick to wear. you may need to rebuild the entire ring. If you have all your original curves save. it should not take too long to rebuild the size.
HELLO, i have a question.. When i create UV curve on ring it doesn't take the whole ring rail, so when i flow along a surface the text doesn't go all around, i space is left in the buttom of the ring. PLease help!!
I won't know exact till see you model. but I guess you have seam some where. the UV curve only take "single" surface not polysurface. so if you have seam in your surface in half. it will only do half UV curve.
I do more of the product like eyewear and watches. Sometimes I do model for everyday objects, but I have not modeled for an entire car yet. only part of it like the dashboard, and tire frames, ect. . interesting...
Hello PJ I have few questions to ask you.. Do you think investing in matrix gold and rhino gold necessary or helpful, What advice would you give me as a rhino beginner.. to start my own rhino 3d jewelry design coaching centre or anything else....lastly, I want to know about different types of gemstone making in rhino, how to make collets, settings etc and technical aspects for printing please make a video on that.
HI Rajath, If you are in the jewelry business and you need to use CAD on the everyday basis. It is a good investment for having Matrix or RhinoGold. Because it has a lot of good feature for jewelry modeling to speed up your design process. However, If you have a tight budget and just start doing jewelry design. I will suggest you start with Rhino3D. Both Matrix and RhinoGold are the plug-ins for Rhino. So they share the same commands and the interface are similar. I will release a stone setting modeling on-demand class hopefully but the end of the month. It will cover all the stone setting using Rhino 3D.
Thank you The lesson is informative and very understandable. Is it possible to display the option of dough imposing IMPORTANT: modified text visually .... add details to the each letter or anyone and try to put it on the ring with the straight surface of the polygon Thank you anyway
You are the best Teacher there is for Rhino; thank you!
Thank you Josja, You are a great student. I enjoy seeing the model image you sent.
This was super helpful! Thank you for the clearly shown process. I had to watch it on mute at work and I still understood how you did that.
Happy to hear that. Check out my other videos. I am sure you will love them as well.

How can you show the Section of the ring at 1:04....that is cool
you can add clipping plane at any view to see different angle or use gumball to rotate it.
Thanks PJ

that is correct. very good eye in detail. however if the text is shallow, it won't affect the demolding since rubber is forgiving in certain degree
I want to learn block function please make the videos
