  • Australia's Coal Conundrum | The Politics Of Climate Change | Seed Documentary
Against the backdrop of dwindling water resources, ravaging bushfires and high unemployment, a controversial new mine set to be built in Central Queensland is being met with controversy and passionate resistance. Further mining activities promise to exacerbate the region’s already dwindling water resources while raising Australia’s contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions. The perceived silver lining in the building of the controversial Carmichael Mine is the promise of job creation. But, at what cost?

Trouble is those jobs never are for the community, until FIFO is stopped and those workers stay in the towns and spend their money it doesn't work.
So many mining towns don't reap the benefits of those mines.

Does this address the taxation and lobbying problem with these huge evil mining companys.... compared to every other developed country in the world we basically give our resources away for free. All because its legal for legislators to be employed by the industry that lobbied them to make laws that benefit them (the industry or even mining company) alone. This is called the golden parachute system and its illegal to call it corruption because they made it a legal practice.

Amazing. If I were to go to Australia and bring a cabbage with me, customs would grab it for environmental contamination. but the go ahead for this does not seem to matter.

Unbelivable, my sister in law lives in Australia, her 2nd husband's a climate denier, he worked in mining and I won't visit, I'm a chick forest technician from Montreal, 🇨🇦, good luck, must we destroy everything?

"Immediately, if not sooner!" ~ Trump.
I think $4T damage in 2100 is an under-estimate. Things have been accelerating: Heat waves, crop losses, etc.

"thats why Bruce is busy promoting the adani mine"- instead of promoting small businesses or encouraging people to start businesses- "look around"- there's heaps of small businesses that can be started to boost local economies and create jobs.
But nah lets just throw money at Oligarchs like Adani, Gina Rhinehart etc.

As certified padi diver the Great Barrier Reef is still on my list..but I guess I can scrap that. Australia has so many beautiful domestic flora and fauna. It’s hard to see the decline by fires, droughts and water scarcity.

In a tank of diesel is the same amount of energy as my total electrical energy for 3.2 months over summer with the air con going 24-7, hopefully the protestors are going to stop driving to music festivals. They say it as 30% but I thought it was 20% being from electricity, if we stopped driving for pleasure we could lower emissions by more than all coal.
We use these fuels like diesel and petrol and emit this energy without a second thought to the external costs of the level of heat we have now is the warmest in 3 million years and taking ten thousand years to come out naturally.

    New underground city
This proposal outlines the design and construction of a sustainable underground city utilizing advanced tunneling technology.
    Construction Approach
A 50-meter diameter tunnel boring machine (TBM) will create expansive tunnels, minimizing surface disruption while ensuring structural integrity.
    Key Features
Air Supply: An innovative air intake system harnesses wave energy for pressurized air, filtered for quality and used in food production and city ventilation.
Water Management: A desalination plant will provide fresh water, while mineral extraction processes will convert brine into fertilizers, promoting sustainability.
Waste Treatment: An advanced sewage system will treat wastewater before safe ocean dispersal.
Transportation: A compressed air engine,(Angelo Dipietro engine) powered by wave energy, will facilitate efficient movement within the city.
    Urban Design
The layout includes aeroponic farms, shopping areas, and recreational green spaces, promoting a vibrant community atmosphere. Automated systems will ensure optimal air quality and lighting, enhancing the living environment.
This underground city concept leverages cutting-edge technology to address urban challenges, offering a viable solution for sustainable living in constrained environments.
