in case people don't know: the original version of Subnautica didn't have recipe pinning, showing battery life with a bar, etc
All of that is from Subnautica Below Zero, which first introduced all those quality of life upgrades.
Later, the company updated the original Subnautica to also include all of those features.

Also backported from _Below Zero_ are pointers to beacons on the edge of your vision as well as the large room blueprints. (You may have noticed the latter seemed to come out of nowhere when you scanned... I think it was the multipurpose room on the floating island? Yeah, that didn't happen originally. They had to make them "piggyback" that way, since there are no large rooms in the pre-built habitats you find in this one).

13:05 - the water filtration needs an empty outside wall. The reinforcement on that wall is blocking it.

    • @fllthdcrb
      @fllthdcrb 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think she went a little overboard with the reinforcements, TBH. It's not reality where you would need every square micron of the surface to be strong to withstand the pressure. The game has a fairly simple way of determining the integrity of a habitat: There is a single number that goes up when you build a reinforcement or foundation and down when you build anything else (by different amounts according to the item), and as long as that number is positive, the habitat won't spring a leak unless something rams into it. And the game gives you an update on the integrity every time you build or remove something that changes it, so you should be okay as long as you pay attention. Importantly, although depth does matter, for the most part _it doesn't matter where you build something in the base._ A reinforcement or foundation protects the whole base even if it's just in a corner somewhere. So there's no need to reinforce every single wall that you can.

Three tips that you may or may not have come across yet:
1 - You found the blueprint for "Swim Charge Fins" at some point. They charge handheld items (flashlight, etc.), while you swim. Not too exciting, BUT... the Seaglide counts as a handheld item, and you actually charge the Seaglide *faster* than the battery drains. The Seaglide will never lose power while wearing those fins. Also, you can put a really low battery in the Seaglide (from another device) and charge that battery while swimming around, and put the fully-charged battery that was in the Seaglide into that other device. It's basically a portable battery charger.
2 - Salt. Another use for salt is to make "cured" foods, instead of cooking them. Cured foods take away a little bit of water (only like -2), but the foods last forever - they will never spoil.
3 - You can put up to 4 storage modules in the Seamoth, to give you a total of 64 extra storage spaces (each module is 4x4, or 16 total spaces). If you're just going to go to the island to collect a bunch of fruit, or various items, and you don't plan on diving to deep areas, this can be a good configuration for something like that. Also, you can bring along the depth module with you, in case you decided you want or need to go below 200m. Those modules can be swapped out anywhere, so as long as it's with you (in your inventory, etc.), you can just swap it out as needed/on the fly.

    Tips below, no story spoilers:
For a cheap outdoor lighting solution for your base, you may plant some creepwine Seed clusters. But don't overdo it as it can be quite bright.
And the aquarium can hold quite a few smaller fish. I have a few cuddlefishes in my aquarium now, along with a crash fish and some more fishes. You also might want to explore inside the aquarium, middle bottom, a bit.

There's a few different ways to charge power cells for your seamoth. First, when you find and scan fragments, you can build a charger for them. Second, put a dead cell into your seamoth when it's below the moonpool. You should still be able to ascend and when it's picked up by the moonpool the base will charge the cell in it. Third, you could build the solar charger for the seamoth and leave it parked near the surface. As each cell charges, swap it out for a dead one so you have spares for deep dives.

Whoah! Are you sure you want to tempt the fates like this? 😉
    34:27 - *“Let's check on our babies.”*
Others have probably already told you this, but when you go into the alien containment unit, you can pick up the cuddlefish and release it in the ocean outside your habitat. It will remain there, and you can now interact with it. It's _adorable._
    36:40 - *“Wait, don't go too close.”*
Good instincts. I have lost several Seamoths from them clipping into the terrain and becoming inaccessible, before I learned this habit.
44:44 - *“I'm taking all the water, though. There is no way I'm leaving anything.”*
"Once died of thirst, twice shy," as the old saying goes. 😉

And now you know why everyone hates those annoying warpers. They teleport you straight out of your safe metal cocoon and in front of their creepy scythe-hands, _just_ when you thought you were getting away.
The bioreactor always produces 50 units of energy per minute. Different plants and fish have different amounts of energy content, which means that they last longer or shorter, under the extraction rate of 50/min, but they do not cause the reactor to produce more energy or do it faster.
You can also release manually caught fish into the containment unit. If you have two or more of the same type of fish in it, they can start multiplying in there, up to a certain space limit.

You can hatch all eggs in the containment unit - all fish are passive towards the player character as well as each other as long as they are in the containment. When released into the wilds they stay passive towards the player (with one exception: the Crabsquid which turns hostile immediately and behaves like regular crabsquids when released) but resume their normal behaviour towards other fish. Cuddle fish in particular should be released into the wild because you can interact with them outside the base.
The pinning of recipes was originally just a function in Below Zero but was integrated into the first game with the Live Large update that also added the large room.
Edit: Alien containments built in large rooms are much bigger in size. You can also expand the size of the contaiment by building another room on top and another containment inside - the containments will connect into one large unit, also increasing the amount of creatures you can have inside. This is repeatable which means you can make your containment unit really big if you want to.
You can also plant some plants inside - the floor of the containment is actually a growbed.
Edit 2: You can take seeds from a large variety of plants, both land and sea based. In addition to the ones used for crafting or food you can make really pretty gardens with a good mixture of plants.
Knifing mushrooms that are planted in a growbed does not hurt you btw.
Edit 3: It was a good decision to go to the Aurora early - not because you loose it eventually though. The reason why it is important is that the radiation zone does actually expand over time. If the drive core is not repaired and given enough time the radiation zone eventually covers the entire map.
Edit 4: Before using the scanner room - build the scanner room hud chip at the console in the scanner room. You can also upgrade the room itself - I wouldn't bother with a speed upgrade though (the scan speed is more than fast enough anyway making this upgrade pretty useless) and use 4 range upgrades instead.

I really enjoy this more relaxed videos. Building, organizing, collecting, that kind of stuff. Thanks.
I don't remember why you decided to remove the large room. It's particularly useful for the alien containments. In large rooms, they are bigger. If you make two floors and place one alien containment just on top of another, they combine, so you can get even more space. That's true for both, large rooms and multipurpose rooms.
I think you may enjoy more space to keep your creatures.
Also, you can create dividers inside large rooms, thin walls to separate it into smaller rooms so you feel better inside.
Some Subnautica players find the large rooms too big. But I can't live without them XD, I really enjoy the extra space. It's much better than making some complicated laberinth to keep all your stuff. In one large room you can place both the alien containment facility and a biorreactor, and you probably have still space for the water filtration machine. That's comfort, don't let people tell you otherwise :D

You don't need so many reinforcements. You just need to keep the base structure balance above zero. Windows, hatches, filtration machines, something other items that mentioned that reduced structure should be taken into account. I believe you have 60+ points right now, so you can remove some of reinforcements. In the episode with large room after you put just first reinforcement it was enough and you was need just to fix holes with repair tool.
You can't put water filtration machine on a wall with reinforcement.
About power. Everything that consumes power, consumes it with a speed, and total speed can be higher than the sources are producing. To keep power balance, your sources (bioreactors, solar cells, etc.) should produce power with either higher speed, or with a speed enough to live temporarily when they off (e.g. solar cells not generating at night). Sources has a capacity, like accumulators, you might have already noticed - 1 solar cell adds 75, 1 bioreactor adds 500, I don't remember about the others. The built order is matter. If bioreactor was build first and then power cells, it takes energy from bioreactor's accumulator first, so that the solar cells are not working for you until the bioreactor's accumulator is empty (that means your bioreactor is empty already). Do a planning.
You might have noticed that everything that fabricates something, consumes few points of power. Battery charger - too. Moonpool consumes when it powers up the docked transport, e.g. your seamoth.
And... there is a mention about power consumption of water filtration machine in the databank. ;)

The Prawn Suit has 4 arms
The torpedo arm which just does what the name says
The propulsion arm which is just like the a more powerful propulsion cannon but it can also shoot things that you have stored in the Prawn so you might accidentally shoot something important and never find it again
The grappling arm which acts as a grappling hook
The drill which drills large clusters of resources you find around the map and is the only arm besides the base arm which does melee damage
Note: other than the base arm non of the arms can pick stuff up

Power in subnautica is actually pretty simple to understand. First off, location for solar panels changes nothing. Solar energy output in the game is purely based on depth placed with a slight change based on the biome you placed it in. Shining lights at it and placing next to anything bioluminescent will do absolutely nothing.
Power also has a priority system based on the order you placed them. Basically if you place solar panels on your base first then place a bioreactor, the bioreactor will only make power when the solar is spent during night. If you place the bioreactor first then place the solar the solar will only run when the bioreactor is empty. Because of this it's always best to place solar panels first or you're wasting resources.
Beyond this you just need to think about the energy production rates. Solar is by far the weakest of these only producing around 30 energy per minute accounting for day and night and only having a capacity of 75 energy. The bioreactor has a bigger buffer of 500 energy, but the production rate is actually pretty slow at only 50 energy per minute so having heavy energy using items like the scanner room or water filter will require more than one bioreactor. A nuclear reactor in comparison basically beats everything for lunch with a capacity of 2500 and producing 250 energy per minute. Downside to that is that nuclear reactors are not cheap and the fuel kinda sucks to get.

    NOT A SPOILER**
Here are a cpl ideas u can use to power ur base more efficiently using what you have unlocked thus far. The Bioreactor is a great way to amp up early base builds, and will suffice your power needs for low energy components (Radio, fabricator, Battery charger, first aid, etc.). The Bioreactor will technically work if you fuel it using Mushrooms, but the better choice is to stock up on Peepers using a grav trap if needed, and feed these into the Bioreactor. They will last much much longer as fuel and rarely does it need to be attended to. I honestly do not know if it supplies more power, but I AM certain this simple swap will provide power longer than an acid mushroom. Chat pls share if peepers supply more power, or if just longer time. Also, add several solar panels as a fail safe if base has access too the sun.
There may or may not be blueprints that provide you with the tools to supply all the power you will need, with minimal upkeep. I think you scanned Thermal Plant, u must build power transmitters to run the power to base... If you find a safe place hot enough to build 2nd base....
Alien Containment for ur base is much bigger in a large room, and u can make the containment taller by building additional rooms above, and then build the containment on 2nd floor too. you will thank me.

Peepers last longer but the bio-reactor has a constant energy production rate no matter what source is used. In general the more "calories" something has the longer it lasts in the reactor (although of course we don't see the food value for things like acid mushrooms!). Peepers are excellent because they have a high food value. I don't want to spoil it but there are better fish that can be used. Fish can also be bred in captivity and multiply (hope that isn't too much of a spoiler).

SPOILER WARNING for talking about bioreactor functionality:
Each plant seed, plant piece, egg, fish and some other stuff has a certain energy value. This does not mean that the reactor produces energy faster, it only lasts longer. The energy production rate is always one energy every 12 seconds regardless of fuel type.
The worst energy source is gel sack seeds with a value of only 7 per seed - a bioreactor filled with 16 gel sack seeds only produces a total of 112 energy before it is empty.
The best energy source is the Occulus (the small peeper relative from the Jellyshroom Cave) - each Occulus has an energy value of 630 and they only take up 1 space each for a total of 10.080 energy. Which means having a containment unit only for Occulus breeding is a good idea for the bioreactor.
Peepers are pretty good as well. They have an energy value of 420; a reactor filled with 16 peepers has a total reserve capacity of 6720.
Acid mushrooms have an energy value of 210 and therefore a reactor filled with 16 acid mushrooms is worth 3360.
Personally I like to use Lantern tree fruits - they are not exactly the best ressource with a value of 210 anda total capacity of only 840 for a full reactor, but you can simply but a plant pot with a lantern tree next to the reactor and refuel whenever needed by simply picking a few more fruits due to the unlimited fruit production of lantern trees.
It should be mentioned that the highest individual value is crabsquids and ampeels with 770 each, however due to their size they are not a great source because only a single one fits into the reactor. Occasionally I use hatched crabsquids as fuel because I really don't like these things.
      As a general rule:
      - Seeds are pretty terrible as fuel. The best ones are Writhing Weed seeds with a value of 140 each, for a total reserve of 2240.
      - Stuff from the "other" category (Sea Treader poop with a value of 300 but requires 4 space, lubricant value of 20 and stalker teeth value 70) is middling at best.
      - All coral samples are pretty bad with a value of 70 each. Brain Coral samples are the worst out of these because they also require 4 space, and Table Corals are wasted in the reactor because they are required for computer chips.
      - Eggs are a middling source; the larger eggs should be avoided because only 4 fit into the reactor but even the best eggs (Mesmer eggs with a value of 175 for a total of 2800) are one lower side.
      - Land plant samples are not the best either, but as mentioned above the ease of access compensates for that because you can grow them right next to the reactor.
      - Marine plants are only a middling ressource as well and they have to be grown outside, making them less valuable.
      - Fish are the best source, with large fish hatched in the containment being less valuable due to space requirements and edible fish being the best (including the occulus as best fuel possible). Second best is the Reginald with a value of 490 btw.

Ok, first and most importantly, you obviously have a gamer cat there, you should ask what she wants to play 😄
And in no particular order -
With regards to farming, you found that you can put some things in the outdoor planters already fully-grown. The good thing with the shrooms is if you cut them when they're in the planter, you don't get the acid cloud so it's safer. I think the reinforced suit is protecting you from this, I don't think most people have that before they start farming!
Secondly, you know how you can get three seeds from a Gel sack? If it's in the planter, you take two seeds, take it out and put it back in, it resets the count and you can get another two, and another, etc. You can fill up whole planters that way, but I can see how you could feel like it's cheating lol
I love how you were drinking coffee at the same time as your character 😆
I had no idea you could punch the parasites, I always just sliced them off with the knife which I permanently have in quickslot 1 😄
You can stack alien containments in stacked rooms, that is, if you build them directly above each other they automatically connect 😁
I guess it's because you were forewarned, but I've never seen someone warped out of their vehicle for the first time so calm about it! Most people doing reactions are stunned/panicked and disoriented for a few seconds 😆

The way power works aand how its getting used in the habitats are abit strange and u cant really do mutch about it as the power dosent drain equally from all sources but instead based on in what order u build them. The way it works is that the first power generating item u build will always have its power consumed first and only when that is empty will the next get used. So if u got 2 solar cells u dubble your total power storage but the 2nd cell will do nothing untill the first is empty. This is important to know especially if your base happen to have 2 or more different power generation methods. If for example u have 1 passive power generator like a solar vell or a geothermal vent then try to build that first before u add a Bioreactor or a Nuclear reactor. That way u wont have to constantly be filling it up with bio resources becouse it wont be using its power untill the solar cells or the geothermal cant keep up. More so for the bioreactor becouse if u somehow managed to drain even just 1 nuclear rod from a reactor then well done to u. If u swap them around then the bioreactor will be first in the chain and constantly be draining its power and needs to be refilled while your passive power generator isent getting used atall untill the bioreactor runs dry.

You're doing great! But you have WAY TOO MANY reinforcements on your base. You only need AT MOST 2. A single reinforcement adds 7 hull integrity to your base. As long as your hull integrity is above 0 you won't get structural integrity problems. You aren't able to place the water filtration because it's colliding with the reinforcement on the wall. Just remove all but 3 of your reinforcements from your base and you'll be fine. Also - just have 1 multi-purpose room and 1 large room. Place the alien containment in the large room with a hatch. The alien containment will be much larger in the large room; you don't need that much base.* Also - craft the single potters for Marblemellon. It's much easier to chop them with your knife. As you found out, the indoor growbed makes it really hard to cut the marblemellons. Eat 3, then chop the 4th to make 4 seeds. Re-plant the seeds back into a single pot. Rinse and repeat.

cutting shrooms doesnt hurt u if they are already planted. u can plant an adult mushroom and then cut it for spores.
the containment unit can hold 10 creatures. u can enlarge it if u build it in several floors stacked.
creatures with 2 or more individuals will reproduce on their own.
u can plant water plants in the containment unit, as it has a planter.
at 50:45 why u dont scan the leech creature? ever? btw u should scan the glowing peepers there.
u can kill the leeches easily with a knife...much simpler than anything else.
u can cut the melons but its not always easy as your reach is limited. u dont need them in the water..or on the growbeds...but it might be easier.
u can also plant creepvine seeds and grow your own creepvines! and yes also acid mushrooms...but there are plenty.
i prefer to cut the gel sacks twice, plant those, then take the gel sack for use for aerogel. cutting it again will destroy it and give only 1 seed...which is not a good idea.
u can also plant bulbo bushes for their water content. pretty nice. i would recommend oculus for bioreactor instead of gel sacks...but your choice.
i would recommend storing the water u get and using it only on away missions. at your base u can eat your own grown food for water instead...
cured reginalds are the best for away missions, or use the thermoblade to cook fish wherever u r.
reginalds are usually near the pillars in the red grass areas.
u should read about the stasis rifle and try it. try both quick shots and charged shots. i personally think quick shots are best to get a hit (ideally up close and to the head), and then follow up with a charged shot up close, for maximum duration.

Now that you're using alien containment, here's a few tips that can take a while to discover:
If you put 2 of any species of food fish in there, they'll breed. This gives you an easy source of food in your base. Reginalds are one of the best for food value.
Tanks can span multiple decks so if you stack a bunch of rooms and put containment tanks in each, they'll connect for a very deep tank.
You get a larger oval shaped tank if you build in a large room.
You can grow sea plants like gel sacks, blood kelp, or deep shrooms in them.
When you hatch large fish like stalkers, sand sharks, or whatever, you can pick them up into your inventory and take them outside your base to release them. They tend to hang around your base and are not hostile towards you. (But may be towards other sea life)

@@MentalEiva Twitch is awesome, but I actually enjoy watching plays like this without the distraction of chat. I'm so glad you're doing it this way! It's distracting enough knowing you're on camera and having to talk! Thanks again for all the cheap entertainment.

@@OedwakYou may think that Twitch is awesome. I very much disagree. I think that Twitch is a toxic environment which attracts the worst kind of audience. Also, playing on a live stream means that the streamer will divert attention from the game to the audience, and that the audience will try to influence the streamer's playstyle and decisions. TH-cam backseating is bad enough, but it doesn't hold a candle to the junk going on during live streams. What's more, Twitch means that streamers need to follow schedules which causes pressure, stress, and time zone related problems. In short: I despise Twitch.

@@Lucius_DeBeers I guess I was trying to be a little bit diplomatic toward the twitch fans out there, but I'm really with you. I also wasn't making any comment about the business practices or anything. I should have just generalized my comments toward streaming in general regardless of platform. They're all pretty much evil!

Great video; hopefully you will experiment with the scanner room next time. Don't forget to use the 2 scanner room robots (name?), as they "seed" the areas they pass through for additional scanner detections.
BTW, I would vote against you streaming your game-play. IMHO, TH-cam streamer VOD content is annoying to watch. One of the nice things about your play-through is that you are able to devote your full attention to the game, rather than being in constant conversation with chat (loaded with inane comments and bad game-play advice...).

No worries, there’s no way I’m streaming any time soon, cause I don’t have the equipment for it and I think if I ever do that’s going to be games that I know very well or hogs😂

Hi! I played subnautica when it was in early access, and now it is the first time I play it as the complete game, what a difference... I found your videos and play it as you do, but your progress is so fast. I always try to get all technology available, before I go deeper.
But not you, no, you dive in the deep, defenseless between terrifying monsters in total darkness. And you never forget to mention how scared you are, while you search the biggest dangers.😄
Its very funny to watch 👍.
If you want to see something, that could scare you a little bit more, then take Francis and go to the Aurora at the point where you can enter the wreck. Then look north, the bottom of the ocean goes deeper there and seems barren, empty. There you hear it...a scream that lets you freeze. And then activate the sonar of Francis and look what it finds out there, not far away. 😱
I'm curious if you try to scan it...👀
I already know the game, but the atmosphere is always scary, they did a great job. Pretty, nice, colorful in daylight and the shallows, and the opposite in the deep.
You said in Episode 6 or so, english is not your native language. Mine either, I'm german. Where do you live? (If you like to say it) There is nothing in the channel data.
Oh, did you find out the thing with the base structure stability? There is a value for the structure, if you build something it changes this value, positive or negative, this is what you must be aware of. If it goes negative (-1 for example) the base collapses as you had it the first time with the large room. Then it is necessary to build a reinforcement, or more. Look in the blueprints, there you find the numbers and values.
This playthrough is really entertaining und funny 😃😄 I try to keep up with you 👍

@@MentalEiva 😊 I'm sorry, I was wrong about the base integrity values, you don't find them in the blueprints! They are just displayed directly after you build something, for a few seconds. But you can look them up in the subnautica wiki website. 🤓
