I was there. Most of these costumes were as amazing in person as they look in the video.

BTW to all the people bitching about cardboard and plastic or whatever... Just stop your whining just because you use or think you should only use the best materials you are wrong. Steampunk is an aesthetic you can use cheap materials if it looks right, and to all the people saying there are out of place people think of every comic con ever (supposed to be about comics but practically everyone pops up there).
I would also like to mention that some of us are poor as sh*t, so we can't exactly afford a lot of metals, if any.

I can make any props you need out of wood, sturdy, handmade and can easily be made to look like metal but there's also plenty of wood in steampunk also.

Cardboard and duct tape is surprisingly versatile! It's shocking the amount of costume snobbery around now. Even using EVA foam gets expensive because you have to buy a million hardware store products to coat onto it and such.
I couldn't stop watching this video. It's great!

I love all the steampunk original stuff and all the steampunk versions of my favorite movies, tv shows and videogames. Also, I was suprised by the steampunk Gamzee riding a red car.
Ok, I know some stuff is obviously out of the steampunk context, but most of it looks cool. At least some of the cosplayers try their best. It is all just for fun.
Steampunk is really exciting and beautiful. So exotic.
This is AMAZING inspiration for costumes.

Every time I see a Steampunk costume or a Steampunk convention type event, I always think of tinkering. Like, that's what I associate Steampunk with, tinkering with things and inventing new things, lol.

I wonder how many steampunk cosplayers know where steampunk came from. It came from Jules Verne and much later was applied to the very popular TV show Wild Wild West. I don't know when or what got it going with cosplay, probably Jules Verne and Wild Wild West fans. I admire steampunk the most of all the cosplayers because it's all about creativity and creating something totally unique.

The apparatus around her head shines a blacklight onto her face and that lights up contacts that fluoresce under that wavelength of light.
I wonder if that effects her sight?

can someone explain what steampunk is to me, because wikipedia could not help this time
basically it's a genre of science fiction where modern technology (air transportation, chemical science, trains, etc.) is powered by steam

Also, steampunk can include 1800s technology that is more advanced than it actually was. steampunk usually takes place in the Victorian era.
