I saw CCR for the first time in 1968, when they were a little-known band, as was Santana. The first concert I ever attended at age 15: (Performers listed in order of prominence, headliners first): July 28, 1968, Frost Amphitheatre, Stanford U., Palo Alto, CA: Chambers Brothers/Quicksilver Messenger Service/Sons of Champlin/Creedence Clearwater Revival/Santana Blues Band/Morning Glory. Three summers later, when Bill Graham closed the Fillmore West, Santana, Quicksilver and Creedence, all headlined. All were broadcast live on FM radio. That's how their prominence changed over a 3-year period.
You are NOT shit. An old soul who recognizes treasures. Never call yourself that which is NOT. You are a dear soul, kindred in spirit, mate. This is part of the soundtrack of my life.
“Looking out my back Door”, “Down on the corner”, and “I put a spell on you” are just a few other phenomenal CCR classics worth checking out. Definitely a rabbit hole worth diving into. You should also check out the group called The Band. “Up on Cripple Creek”, “The Night they Drove ol’ Dixie Down” and “The Weight” are all iconic songs from ‘em. They had a special called “The Last Waltz” which was their last concert and they had a ridiculous amount of super stars perform with ‘em. 👍🔥
"I don't know what's wrong with that song". Mate, there's nothing wrong with that song, or with you. It just hits you in the feels, like good songs do. ❤❤❤
I was born in '66. Dad had a woodwork shop in the basement. he played 8-track cassettes all the time. I fell in love with CCR and dad already loved them. anyway, as a young adult I follow John Fogerty single career. in '97 John came through Boston during his Blue Moon Swamp tour. I was blessed to be able to surprise my dad by taking him to the show. long story short, dad's health had been bad for a while. wheelchair. breathing support etc. I watched him lipsync along (to the old stuff.) and smile for two hours straight. one of the best times of my life. clearly my best time with my dad. to top things off his health stabilized and improved enough to where he's still with me today. (not saying John's concert healed my dad. I am saying it didn't hurt and it made two people very happy and grow a little closer after that.)
It's a poem. It's asking if you've ever felt misery even though it's sunny from the outside. Everyone around you is thinking that you should be happy... but it's raining inside.
Lodi is another great CCR song. It's about traveling from bar to bar (pub to pub) playing shows until you run out of money. Then you're stuck in Lodi California.
The song is short to work on AM radio in 1968. Formats were nothing longer than a three minute song. And truthfully the videos can be disregarded, they are not original (no one was making videos in ‘68). Those are fan made, or the record company, but nothing to do with the artists themselves. You’re making me really happy Mollyboy, there are so many good songs out there to explore and you’re getting a taste of them now.
@@markbaltierra7226 I agree! I was at a John Fogerty concert two weeks ago and when the opening notes of Born On The Bayou kicked in, I was on my feet and screaming, lol. He's almost 80 yrs old and still rocking, and his voice is just as good as ever! Great show!
So much great music from CCR in just a few years; Green River, Lodi, Born on the Bayou, Heard it Through the Grapevine, Midnight Special and on and on. Thanks for the video.
Their cover of "I Put a Spell on You" is not to be missed! (Original artist is "Screamin' Jay Hawkins (1956); the other incredible cover is by Angelina Jordan.)
This song...we went camping once, and a beautiful soft rain came down. The sun was shining, and it was exquisite. Every time I hear this song I am back there. This song is almost gospel in it's delivery with the keyboard coming in. I'm glad you enjoyed it.😊
This song takes me back to my childhood . My mom kissing my dad and crying as he left for Vietnam. I remember leaving the airport and this song came on and I couldn’t stop my mother from crying.
You wondered why it had this undercurrent of sadness that came through the vocals and music. In his autobiography Fortunate Son, John Fogerty didn’t mince words about his frustration at the time he wrote the 1971 hit. “‘Have You Ever Seen The Rain’ is about the breakup of the band,” he confided. “I was feeling, ‘Man, we achieved all our dreams. And you guys are only talking about negative stuff.’ By your own volition, you bring in a huge rain cloud and cause it to rain. On your own perfect dream. That’s the way I saw it. I was watching the band disintegrate right in front of my eyes.” Some mistakenly think it was about the Vietnam war because that was happening at the time it was released.
Hello MollyBoy. I like to watch your videos with you. I'm a 67 year old hippie woman from Finland an I've been listening progressive rock music all my life ( since I was 8 ). Favorite band is YES.
"As long as I can see the light" is where you can really hear his best blues vocals from CCR's(John Fogerty). I remember seeing them sing it live in Houston, Texas, at the Sam Houston Colosseum. when I was a senior in high school in 1971. A band that had one of the greatest musicians of that Golden era of rock. John Fogerty. He knows, it's all about the melody 1st! And with his vocals? Wow
I love that you appreciate the old musicians who had to have good voices and play instruments. Way out of what you grew up as popular music of your time
This song reminds me of driving my first car, 1964 F100 truck, no A/C with the windows down, mid summer heat, and not having a care in the world. I was 15 and had the whole world in front of me. Good Times.
I was about the same age and drove my pop's truck also. At about the same time in history. I must be about 3 years older than you. Where did you grow up?
Blasting out across the lake in Wyoming. Late '60's. Sunset on July 4th. Far countryside. Wyoming. 8-track blaring from the boat across the waters. People setting off fireworks in response. Man....that's a moment in a lifetime right there.

My favorite CCR song. The organ evokes a church feel in me.
Another CCR classic. Check out "Bad Moon Rising" when you get the chance.

"Born On The bayou" is a rocker!
It’s hard to go wrong with CCR - they’re terrific songwriters and performers.
Absolutely one of the USA’s very best bands.

Born on the Bayou is even better. Do both.
Have been in Lodi more than I care to admit lol
I seriously got stuck in Lodi once.
Lodi is my favorite song by CCR.
Maybe because I lived that life at one time. Playing those dive bars night after night for nobody. Sigh! 😔
Lodi could be anywhere, you could get stuck playing bars in Aspen for months and still get disheartened
Love John’s voice! Got to try “Born on the Bayou”!!🤘🔥

John Fogerty is the vocalist.
Welcome to my era and generation.
Some mistakenly think it was about the Vietnam war because that was happening at the time it was released.
That makes sense, because he told someone in an interview it was about the band starting to fragment and eventually break up.
Nevertheless, *Everything* at that time was colored by the war.
