Brilliant video - just what I needed. This issue happened to my 360 Modena and 4200 Maserati

Damn, I had no idea that could be repaired. Sweet to learn about the little selector! Short and sweet explanation of everything.

Mine was so broken I actually didn’t know you were supposed to lift it up to engage reverse because the tabs busted on the old piece lol

I have a 2002 Spyder which I have owned since 2012 didn’t realize you have to lift and pull the lever back for reverse . I just gently pull it back. Didn’t know either you use it for first gear. I just use the paddle shifters. Am I doing it wrong ? Thanks for sharing your video

If you can get to reverse without lifting it, your lever is already broken. The way the mechanism works, you can't really break it more unless you aren't being gentle
Pushing forward on lever and pressing + paddle do the same thing. Either one is fine to get car in gear

I am now dealing with this issue and ran into another problem. The repair directions were great, but when I replaced the assembly after installing the new lever, it would only work when pushed forward, which gets you to 1st gear. Pulling the lever up and to the rear would not activate reverse. I took it apart and noticed that the plastic base on which the lever sits inside the gear box was not securely seated in its place. Further examination seemed to show that some parts of that plastic piece had broken off. That piece seems crucial, as it appears to play a role in causing the lever when pulled back to complete the connection that sends an electronic signal to shift into reverse. I could not find anything discussion about that part or how to replace it. Nor is it clear to me how exactly pulling the reverse lever activates the electric signal. (In contrast, pushing the lever forward directly causes contact to be made with an electrode that signals for 1st gear). If you have any thoughts on this, please reply. Thanks.

Mine was completely broken. There's a piece of plastic that bumps the lever to get it into reverse if I recall. I soldered/melted it back together best I could. Someone with a 3D printer could probably fix it properly. May buy time putting some sort of shim in there so it hits the lever sooner if that makes sense. No further advice unfortunately

Could have cut a new thin piece of black plastic out of card stock for that shifter "boot" while you were in there!

Good call…when I pull it apart again when my new handle screw comes in I’ll definitely take care of it!
