Thank you for the free download !
Lots of great ideas to practice with. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are audio clips of the arpeggios moving in tempo from slow to fast. Personally I find that to be very helpful. 🤘

my dad was a school teacher and he said to teach properly, one had to repeat over and over the lesson. you remind me of him in his method of teaching!

Thank you Tom Hess! I needed this… I have trouble with either the pick not gliding and getting stuck or can’t find the angle to use the thumb mute instead of the palm mute technique and end up muting the notes I’m trying to play.

Dear Tom Hess. I think you're a brilliant teacher and you're explaining things very deeply. Thank you for your contribution to our lives. One comment I have to make after watching this one. You explain the sweep picking should be made using the motion comes from shoulder and elbow combined but in the starting example you literally killed it seems like all wrist motion. Can you please comment if we need to minimize the motion switching to the elbow after we master it? Thanks for your efforts again.

Practicing fast vs. slow… the part you didn’t point out is that you have to be able to play to the tempo of the song. Maybe that should seem obvious, but I can’t tell you how many players I’ve seen over the years be able to alternate or economy pick in sync with the tempo and rhythm but completely lose the plot when they start sweeping, because they more or less can only sweep at one speed - the highest bpm they’ve gotten to.
The other tricky timing thing is sweeping arpeggios that aren’t all one note per string. You have to be deliberate in practice to avoid losing your hand synchronization (the picking hand getting ahead of the fretting hand).

This is a really good and interesting video. But I have to be honest, I've grown to despise sweep picking in general nowadays, especially the kind done by the TH-cam Djent type players. It's become a gimmick, a throwaway bit of flash that too often does not contribute anything musical to the solo or the wider song. It can be a really good technique if it us used in moderation, with good contrast to the parts around it, but far too often it's just a mind numbing blur of out of synch, unmelodic "noodlewoodlewoodle". A shame really.
