The problem is that they saw how much money the other consoles were making from it and decided to do it themselves but then they include games in the virtual console that not many people even want to play. My son is the only one who actually plays online with others and the subscription I buy is usually only so I can trade pokemon or every so often try my team out on another player.
@white_dragoon_x pokemon is even worse with Pokemon Home 😭 They force us to pay for the GTS. It used to be in game. I was hoping Pokémon SP and BD still had thar but replaced it with Wonder Trade 😮💨

I feel like Nintendo purposefully didn't include download play on the switch just so people had to buy the game to play with friends, but then again you can connect 8 controllers to the console, but having extra controllers costs money, so overall, Nintendo is greedy for money

@@DataHayseed itss because its not feasible Download play works by storing all relevant data onto the systems ram (hence some games have limitations because of this limit) gba, ds, and 3ds have very small rams so it was feasible, switch games however does not only have a bigger ram size but most games typically constantly loads in assets
I feel like the 3ds was the last console where Nintendo really cared about the consumers instead of trying to compete with console and pc gaming. Things like download play, street pass, themes, reverse compatibility, virtual consoles, and fun apps, just make it in my opinion the best hand held of all time.
I think I get what you mean. It feels like after the 3ds and the wii u (possibly because of the latter's financial failure) nintendo lost some of that creativity
@OkPe-ww5rs if the switch had any of the features I listed above it very well could be the greatest handheld to exist for a while. I know the switch has virtual consoles but the monthly membership is ridiculous when I could just homebrew a bunch of emulators. I also wish a stylus would be included with a slot for it, but that's really more of a personal preference

Put your 3DS in sleep mode and leave it in your backpack/pocket/purse wherever you go. If you see a flashing green light, you got tagged! Why is StreetPass the most amazing thing ever? People from all over the world can visit your plaza. The “goal” is arguably trying to get tagged by as many people as you can from different parts of the world. Why does the switch need it? I have met and still am really good friends with multiple people from my school a few years ago who used the streetpass feature. Streetpass would have been the perfect way to find out who has a switch nearby, go talk to them, play some games together, and BAM you’re not a loser anymore cause you’ve just made a friend.
The 3DS displays your real time spent in a game, as well as when you first played it and most recent have. The Switch gives you an estimate, and stops telling you when you first played a week or two after you first played

I also really liked that you didn’t have to own a game to play with your friends. For example Mario kart 7 allowed you to play a limited version of the game as long as someone around you owned the game. I really loved this feature because instead of buying multiple games we could just buy 1 and play together.

Hell with how terrible the support for the Wii U was it’s still had a shit ton of charm. When I boot my switch up, it’s quite as all hell. No music in the Eshop (miyamoto said it was because it lagged) but in my experience the eshop lags even without it. No themes, no messaging. It’s sad…

It's just too sterile and minimalistic. Also, it is unsatisfying you first get into the home menu, because there is literally nothing. Until then, Nintendo consoles had always something when there wasn't a game (or wouldn't power up without one) but on the switch, it was just blank and empty.
It's more understandable to most public but at a long shot it feels bland. Contrary to the Wii U, 3DS or even Wii. When you know what to do and how it works it's a unique experience. Compare it to learn a new language.

The obsession with a browser is purely because “they had it before!” like maybe you guys used it back on the Wii and DS days when it was a fairly new thing and smartphones weren’t around but the amount of people who used it on the slow ass 3DS and Wii U compared to their phone had to have been microscopic. Wii U and 3DS were hacked through a web exploit back in the day; hell PS3 and PSP were as well I believe. Web browsers introduce too many vulnerabilities and not enough benefit to be worth including. Even the PS5 doesn’t have one. I agree with the complaints about themes and Virtual Console and stuff but you guys are really reaching with this complaint
I miss the connectivity on the 3DS. Getting a streetpass in an unexpected place, being able to share games playing locally, sending your friends stupid drawings on swapnote, i miss it all even though i experienced it late.

@@Idontknowtbh167 it's subjective. I've had the 3DS for a while even before my Switch, and it came to a point where I use my 3DS way more proportionally than my Switch. I got bored way more quicker with my Switch than the 3DS, which can play VC titles all the way back, something the Switch can't do or they charge you a monthly subscription to access, which is bs especially if you already have the games. Also, the Switch isn't as portable as the 3DS. As someone who travels frequently, I'd rather have a smaller device that has all the games I would want to entertain me on the flight/train rides abroad.
Switch sorta has that but I don’t think it keeps track of all the games lol, cuz I played animal crossing new horizons but I deleted it a while ago to free up space and when I go to my profile and go the games I played and how much hours I have on it but I can’t find it there, so the activity log was lowkey better

Yep, huge shame the switch doesn’t have it. There’s a homebrew app that does let you look at everything like the activity log did though. Doesn’t tell you how many steps you took each day but switch doesn’t have the pedometer/play coin thing so not surprising
I'm thinking of buying a new 2ds because the 3d has lost its appeal to me and the regular 2ds sucks honestly. I am already clumsy and I've dropped my 3ds many times and I think the clamshell design has saved it these past 10 years. The old version of the 2ds is supposed to be a cheaper version I get it but removing the ability to close the system to preserve the screen was a really bad decision from Nintendo. Problem is now my 3ds won't charge anymore and since last year they stopped repairs for the old model which I have. I will look and try to find repair shops but since the original system is real old it might be harder now.
The New 3DS XL has become my main retro gaming machine, after you put some homebrew on it, it becomes such a complete machine because it runs everything up the Playstation/N64 Era
The only useful thing the 3ds had over switch is ds games and virtual console which will still be discontinued, and what would you need a web browser for, its a gaming machine. Phones exist
@@ERDude really the only thing the 3ds has going for it is it’s portable. If you have half a brain you can emulate all virtual console/ds games. The switch is better because you actually need it to play Nintendo’s new games.
Don't forget about the camera and sound apps, the badges, streetpass, miis actually being used and the little holes made specifically for lanyards and charms (also the new 3ds' interchangeable backplates)
Forgot to mention one of the biggest things is the fact that you can customize your home screen a lot on the 3ds. Meanwhile we're stuck with just a white or black background with the switch.
I'm not saying that what he said was incorrect, or that the switch is better than the 3DS. But he used a switch lite, not a switch. It basically removes the entire 'switch' hybrid appeal of the original switch that allows home/portable use. I'd argue that the switch lite was a console released for Nintendo new-timers, a way to 'ease' consumers to the atmosphere, especially with it being a $100 cheaper than the original.
@@Kaas465 The 3d effect on the new 3ds was better and worked properly. The camera tracked your face so you could play from almost any angle in 3d and still see properly.
I love the 3D affect especially on their New 3D since it has eye tracking it looks amazing. Plus I like that you can dial down the 3D feature and use the slider to decide how much of a 3D effect you want. All without 3D glasses! Amazing.
I like it but I only use it occasionally because it strains the eyes. I really like it for the historical novelty. It is something you can still show people who haven't seen it to this day and they'll think it's cool. Even with the knowledge of modern VR headsets, something about the glasses-free handheld 3D effect is timelessly charming.
Imagine the next switch has comparability with 3DS and DS games, it will be the most popular console in existence. It would mean that no one would buy those newer DS’s though but honestly they should merge the two.
Legitimately though, I have NO IDEA as to why the Activity log wasn't brought back for the Switch. Being able to track your game time is so neat. Not only can does it hold memories of your gaming life on the Switch but you can easily adapt everything you would need to And yet we can only see if we've played games in 5 hour slices It's just plain dumb to me, the Nintendo Switch severly lacks the ability to be customizable
Maybe they don’t want people to see how much time they spent playing their games. Seeing that you spent 5 hours in one day playing Animal Crossing might turn you off from gaming. Perhaps it is tracked through a publically available domain since Nintendo sends every person who has an account with them their history at the end year with 100% accurate stats for the Nintendo ID.

I am an owner of both and I gotta say I like my regular 3DS over my regular Switch. Today, I actually had a conversation about this with someone close and I pointed out all these things that the Switch is missing. The Switch lacks that Nintendo personality. No themes, no BGM, lack of digital socialising, paid online????, no fun when it comes to custom stuff (aka Homebrew and the Homebrew community), too expensive, games too expensive + not as fun (they also lack personality) + random re releases of old games sold for more money??? (explain Skyward Sword to me?, hello i can play it for free on Dolphin?? and my Wii…) … there’s more points I’d love to discuss but TH-cam comments just isn’t the place for that.

Honestly, there are so many features from the 3DS that I WISH the switch had. Here’s the biggest ones for me 1) Download Play 2) Themes 3) Streetpass 4) Activity Log 5) Nintendo Badge Arcade/Home Screen Folders/Being able to customize or organize home screens in general. @@Hugeman88 Depends on who you ask. On the Switch (or any other entertainment device/system)? No, not for the mainstream market at least for right now. Like VR, it's a nice gimmick and all, but currently best left to 3D movies. Come back when tech is more evolved and more accepted. For the industry, scientific community and medicine? Yes, because they're already used there. Great for looking "into" a person without needing to cut anything. Nice way to design vehicles/buildings/etc.

It's just too sterile and minimalistic. Also, it is unsatisfying you first get into the home menu, because there is literally nothing. Until then, Nintendo consoles had always something when there wasn't a game (or wouldn't power up without one) but on the switch, it was just blank and empty.
It's more understandable to most public but at a long shot it feels bland. Contrary to the Wii U, 3DS or even Wii.
When you know what to do and how it works it's a unique experience. Compare it to learn a new language.

The obsession with a browser is purely because “they had it before!” like maybe you guys used it back on the Wii and DS days when it was a fairly new thing and smartphones weren’t around but the amount of people who used it on the slow ass 3DS and Wii U compared to their phone had to have been microscopic. Wii U and 3DS were hacked through a web exploit back in the day; hell PS3 and PSP were as well I believe. Web browsers introduce too many vulnerabilities and not enough benefit to be worth including. Even the PS5 doesn’t have one.
I agree with the complaints about themes and Virtual Console and stuff but you guys are really reaching with this complaint

@@Idontknowtbh167 it's subjective. I've had the 3DS for a while even before my Switch, and it came to a point where I use my 3DS way more proportionally than my Switch. I got bored way more quicker with my Switch than the 3DS, which can play VC titles all the way back, something the Switch can't do or they charge you a monthly subscription to access, which is bs especially if you already have the games.
Also, the Switch isn't as portable as the 3DS. As someone who travels frequently, I'd rather have a smaller device that has all the games I would want to entertain me on the flight/train rides abroad.

I miss the Activity Log. I loved seeing a book of all the games I've played and how long i played on each day and in total, average, ect
Switch sorta has that but I don’t think it keeps track of all the games lol, cuz I played animal crossing new horizons but I deleted it a while ago to free up space and when I go to my profile and go the games I played and how much hours I have on it but I can’t find it there, so the activity log was lowkey better

To be fair, 3D screen technology ended quite quickly once it released. Not just to the 3DS, but pretty much every TV nowadays.

I'm thinking of buying a new 2ds because the 3d has lost its appeal to me and the regular 2ds sucks honestly.
I am already clumsy and I've dropped my 3ds many times and I think the clamshell design has saved it these past 10 years.
The old version of the 2ds is supposed to be a cheaper version I get it but removing the ability to close the system to preserve the screen was a really bad decision from Nintendo.
Problem is now my 3ds won't charge anymore and since last year they stopped repairs for the old model which I have.
I will look and try to find repair shops but since the original system is real old it might be harder now.
I still have mine with a lot of games from 7 years ago

Number 6: the 3ds has multiple unique home menu themes with music
Don't forget about the camera and sound apps, the badges, streetpass, miis actually being used and the little holes made specifically for lanyards and charms (also the new 3ds' interchangeable backplates)
There was also little jingles for every 3DS game, and that's what gave it some more charm
Forgot to mention one of the biggest things is the fact that you can customize your home screen a lot on the 3ds. Meanwhile we're stuck with just a white or black background with the switch.

I'm not saying that what he said was incorrect, or that the switch is better than the 3DS. But he used a switch lite, not a switch. It basically removes the entire 'switch' hybrid appeal of the original switch that allows home/portable use.
I'd argue that the switch lite was a console released for Nintendo new-timers, a way to 'ease' consumers to the atmosphere, especially with it being a $100 cheaper than the original.

It was pretty nifty with MH3U cutscenes.
I love the 3D affect especially on their New 3D since it has eye tracking it looks amazing. Plus I like that you can dial down the 3D feature and use the slider to decide how much of a 3D effect you want. All without 3D glasses! Amazing.

I like it but I only use it occasionally because it strains the eyes. I really like it for the historical novelty. It is something you can still show people who haven't seen it to this day and they'll think it's cool. Even with the knowledge of modern VR headsets, something about the glasses-free handheld 3D effect is timelessly charming.
All I just want is for the switch to have themes and wallpapers

I am an owner of both and I gotta say I like my regular 3DS over my regular Switch. Today, I actually had a conversation about this with someone close and I pointed out all these things that the Switch is missing. The Switch lacks that Nintendo personality. No themes, no BGM, lack of digital socialising, paid online????, no fun when it comes to custom stuff (aka Homebrew and the Homebrew community), too expensive, games too expensive + not as fun (they also lack personality) + random re releases of old games sold for more money??? (explain Skyward Sword to me?, hello i can play it for free on Dolphin?? and my Wii…) … there’s more points I’d love to discuss but TH-cam comments just isn’t the place for that.

2) Themes

4) Activity Log
5) Nintendo Badge Arcade/Home Screen Folders/Being able to customize or organize home screens in general. (Yes, I’m counting this as different than themes. Sue me)

Wii U is the successor to the Wii. In a way, it is an upgrade, but still it was the latest Nintendo console for its time.

@@Hugeman88 Depends on who you ask. On the Switch (or any other entertainment device/system)? No, not for the mainstream market at least for right now. Like VR, it's a nice gimmick and all, but currently best left to 3D movies. Come back when tech is more evolved and more accepted.
For the industry, scientific community and medicine? Yes, because they're already used there. Great for looking "into" a person without needing to cut anything. Nice way to design vehicles/buildings/etc.
