When i first played the game, i would look at the construction tab and focus, then get scared and close the game quickly xD
I did the same thing, then watched about 60 hours of TH-cam tutorials and in depth guides and after a couple playthroughs I was actually decently competent at the game at around 100 hours (+60hrs research), learned to paradrop at around 600hours, learned airforce CAS importance at 400 hours, still learning navy (other then just spamming subs and naval bombers I mean)
Playing without air sup/cas for 400hours is rough
When i firstly played germany i just right-clicked warsaw to make all my divisions went straight here, because I didn't know how to make frontlines💀
And france would kick your ass if you sent all of your divisions to poland.
I did the tutorial game as Italy and didn't know what frontlines were. I micromanaged my entire army across the eastern front until the soviet's capitulated. One unit at a time.... across siberia....

The biggest problem with hoi4 is that you need 1000 hours to now all the basics strategies and ♾️ hours to understand navy
Edit: some of you haven't noticed that I exaggerated, don't think that anyone is that bad
What I did was play around and I understood the game, guides really don’t help I have 3000 hours and 61% of achievements

I kinda understand navy and i only have 400 hours
I have 1400 hrs and I can beat British navy as Italy??
Mfs really be making like spending 100 hours in a virtual game is nothing

Let's agree, not even the Hoi4 devs know how to play navy
“Ok and when do I start getting good?”
“That’s the fun part you don’t”
I remember learning HOI4 with someone...
We managed to successfully go around Maginot after I think the 4th game. What truly helped me though was playing a Romania game as I learned much of the basics there.
Always best to start off with a smaller nation. My first game I started with portugal and my mission was to take Spain.. I learned a lot and eventually built up confidence to play as a major which is more overwhelming and less chill.
I went for a baptism by blood with a soviet game, not only did I not understand what I was doing but my dumbass thought I was doing OK cause I coild told the urals 😂😂😂
The first game I had was with fucking Nigeria RT56 before No Step Back came out. Conquering Africa was amazing (I played on really easy mode and I was fully boosted, also African countries were independent from the start and I used console commands every couple of irl minutes)
@@samuele9735 bro knows how to have fun
The internal conflict in my brain when I boot up Hoi4
My way of learning was the old Italy before BBA ,now the only way to learn is Romania/hungary or coop as a major nation in a mp game. Italy used to be the best tutorial nation
I usually recommend Canada to new players now.

You need to have that base boosted naval invasion sound at the end
I learned a trick for naval invasions. Set your boats and troops in place before you start the war. Then as soon as you declare war your troops move before the enemies ships, effectively nulling out the need for a large navy.
I didn't learn about like 95% of the mechanics before like 400 hours.
I only learned 5% while litteraly playing twice as much ☠️☠️☠️ (I am actually not even kiding)

You don't teach someone how to play HOI4, HOI4 is the teacher, the Yoda themselves.
My dad loves Age of Empires and is really good at the game ,so i thought itd be easy to teach him this game .He didnt understand a single mechanic 💀
3 attemps to conquist poland, and 7 to conquist paris...
I learned how to play HOI4 with a 10 hour YT video series, which was the ABRIDGED version.
I still don’t know how 1/2 the game works, let alone any type of strategy, and I’ve never survived with any nation past 1944.
That’s why when we play the first game, no dlc or you multiplay the same nation so that they can learn the basic mechanics. Or thirdly if you wanna throw “them in the deep end” (not really) make them play El Salvador and give them the goal of forming the Central American Republic. That is how I learned (and learn) the basics of new mechanics.
A complex and fun game is rare, a mind that likes complex problem solving is also rare. It's not about how you teach, is about how much they want to learn. I think hoi4 is amazing, learned it by myself through playing and watching fun videos. If your friend doesn't want to learn, it's not hoi4 fault for being too complicated.
