  • Bank Holiday Monday I decided to head up to the Lakes to Helvellyn.
Started at Swirls Car Park by Thirlmere Lake at 9am.
Got to the top around 11.30am
Went down Swirral Edge to another peak, then down the Red Tarn, across to the Hole in the Wall then up Striding Edge.
It took around 1.5 hours to get back down to Swirls Car Park as my legs were slowly seizing up and took my time so I don't twist my ankle.
In all, it was a very tiring but enjoyable hike and took around 7.5 hours in total at a leisurely pace.
Apologies for the loud wind interference. It's a learning curve in invest in a better microphone and I've also purchased a GoPro since. This was all filmed by an Olfi camera. I was trying to keep myself entertained by filming this as my first vlog attempt. Actually it is my second, as I never got round to editing my first one when I went to Jogjakarta, Indonesia.

Good channel mate. Keep up the hiking. It’s great. U have also given me a few ideas for my channel actually.

Thank you. There's still plenty of improvement and I need to invest in better sound recording equipment so that the wind doesn't get picked up as much.

Definitely a steeper climb than from Glenridding or Patterdale.

Yeah that first hour or so is brutal isn't it. Wort it though.

I saw someone take their small dogs up. From Swirls Car Park to the top and back it's fine. There's quite a lot of steps and just inclines. I vaguely recall one little bit maybe requires a little scrambling but that's around maybe 1-2 metres so you could pick up your dog to the upper level. However I wouldn't recommend going round Swirral or Striding Edge with a dog (doing the circular route round Red Tarn, the little lake in the middle) as this is more of a risk.
