Others have already explained the linked brakes to you so let's move on...
HELL YEAH!!! I bought an 84 Aspencade back in 2020. Why? The world had gone mental crazy & I wanted to go home to where I felt safe - the 80's. 😁 Had a poster of this thing on my bedroom wall back then.
As an adult & experienced rider I knew the Wing was a joke.
But I bought one. Just for a laugh. Run it one summer & flip it.
    That was June 2020.
It's now November 2022 and a man is coming tomorrow to buy my modern bike.
The Wing is staying till one of us dies! WHAT A BIKE! Huge grin factor that never gets old & even though it's 38 years old I load my gear on and go touring in total confidence.

I just bought a flawless, and I MEAN FLAWLESS (appearance wise-not a single non factory sticker or decal on it) 1985 1200GL Aspencade w/34K on it. It was a heated garage baby that has all the documented services and repairs by the original owner (IE-Timing belts changed by Honda at 30K). No CB or intercom and the tape deck is NF(bad motor). But the stereo and all controls work great and original chrome fuel pump and LCD dash w/factory tool kit and aux air hose for onboard air pump, all the Goldwing nylon travel bags and original matching Goldwing weather cover and manuals (Owners and service). It's the same color scheme as this one but looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Your not gonna like this but I only paid $1,500. I kid You not. I get 40 miles to the gallon and the air ride works wonderfully. I lucked out, bar none and I get people coming to look all the time. The Goldwing fanatics especially tell Me this is showroom collector material. My first and only Goldwing and I couldn't be happier.

I got lucky for sure. Found it on FB market place of all places. He was asking 2K originally (too old to ride anymore-sad) but I wanted to know what I might be buying so did a lot of research beforehand and asked a lot of questions and stated a basic history/tech bulletin updates of it and He was happy someone who cared and took the time might buy it. By the end of our conversation that afternoon, He dropped the price and delivered it by trailer to My house for Me, great guy. PS, He liked My Harley's. I'll shut up now, sorry.

Don’t forget the front brake isn’t that fierce because it only operates one of the front discs. The back brake pedal operates the other front disc combined with the rear disc.

"When he rode his first Gold Wing, back in the day, that was it." I know exactly the feeling. Once I bought my Valkyrie, I was convinced I'll never own a bike with less than 6 cylinders again. Now I'm thinking that if I have money to spend, I could opt for a small v2, as a secondary city bike.

Valkyrie to big in the city? What is the seat height

    • @theodorstravels
      @theodorstravels 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@123JumpingJacks Too big to filter definitely. We have very narrow streets. Also it's weight is not ideal for stop and go traffic. I don't know about the seat height, but I can put both feet flat on the ground.

I’ve got the 1985 goldwing trike and I’ve just bought a complete bike as a spares vehicle for about $800 as it was cheaper than buying parts individually. 👍

I own an 83 GL1100 and 84 GL1200 Goldwing Aspencades and just like the 85 the brakes are a wee-bit finicky....how you ask? Like another mentioned the foot brake pedal operates BOTH front and rear braking...The right Front Caliper and the Rear Caliper are operated by the foot brake and has a somewhat better manageability to keep from locking either tire so I use it for any hard braking.
NOW for the Front Brake fault....IT MUST BE BLED on a regular basis and THEN it can and will lock the Front tire right up if used in any sudden or panic braking.
Always use a better Brake PAD on these models or those cheapy pads will just not do the job for what a large and heavy machine requires.
ONE MORE idiosyncrasy is the use of fuel...Try to only burn straight gasoline as the crap they sell for cars these days will just ROB the BIKE OF POWER. That Ethanol can cause issues with the Carbs too. The Carb Gaskets & Seals do NOT like Ethanol at all. Anyone know what happens to Ethanol if it sits in storage for a couple of months? The top layer becomes nothing but WATER and we all know water causes rust and Grunge Buildup. So really try to only use STRAIGHT GASOLINE without the Ethanol.
Truth be known, I enjoy my 84 over the newer models because of the simplicity and less wiring issues...something to say about a less complicated electrical system when trying to diagnose a dead engine in the rain on the side of the road. I have Buddies ALL with newer Goldwings and they have to carry extra fuses and especially those hard to find weird size RELAYs...just telling the facts man.
ANYWAY, Great Ride N Review of the 85 Goldwing. Good looking machine and the miles wouldn't bother anyone as they seem to run and run...my 83 GL1100 has 182,564 miles on it and is just now beginning to use a little oil.

      Ah, now you say that.
      Neither was I.
A joke, right? The motorised couch? Might as well buy a car?
      Then I rode one!
It honestly is a case of "if you haven't ridden one you don't understand".
There are so many videos on TH-cam of riders having a first go on a Wing coming to it thinking it's an old man's bike - then falling in love.
Honestly - grab a ride somewhere. Just so you can tell me I'm wrong 😉👍
