Made Great Boats, My brother owns a beautiful mint condition Glasspar Avalon I believe is the model? 14" with a restored Mercury Mark 30 outboard from 1957/8. Heavy duty and well built for a early fiberglass boat. Nice you touched upon the company!
Jay, thanks for pronouncing “Willys” correctly! You know how I hound you over pronunciation… btw, Mesa is pronounced “MAY-suh”. 😂. At least on its own.
The Glaspar is my pick for looks for sure! Very clean early sportscar looks even suggesting early Italian cars and the Cobras of later yrs. Very nice with a power to weight that must have made it a bit frightening! 😀
Very cool and unique auto! It looks like it would be a blast to drive! I would go with this one in the second, but the first scenario I think the Volvo would be more my style. Merry Christmas 🎄⛄🎁to you and your family 😎
Great episode. I knew about Glasspar but I didn't know about this car and this one is really cool. I admire the job they did on the bodywork and it must scoot with that big Cadillac V-8. I'd choose the G2 in both scenarios. I have a thing for the Volvo P1900 but with its B14 engine this Glasspar would probably be much more fun to drive.
Cool car, great video! It is so cool that you find these weird, offbeat cars! That Cadillac 390 couldn't be the original engine, the 390 didn't come out until 59 or 60. I suppose it could have originally had a Caddy 331, which would still give great performance. WYR= I'd take any of 'em, but I've heard that the fiberglass on the Woodill was extremely thin and easily cracked or broken. NTT= I wouldn't have gotten that one.
This is a beautiful car. It has obviously been repowered since Cadillac didn't offer the 325 HP 390 until 1968. Cadillac also only had dual four barrel carbs in 1955-1957. With that engine,( which certainly sounds and idles like it does not have a stock Cadillac Cam) and dual 4 barrels, It probably has close to 375 or more HP. Even it if weighs 2,300 lbs., it must be faster than God. Did you find out what it used for a transmission and rear end? I love these presentations, especially with super rare vehicles like these. Good Job.
Fiberglass was the carbon fiber of 1950ties without the excessive price tag. At the time there were still companies putting together cars from components coming from different manufacturers providing own body.
Nice looking car, don't know why they didn't equip it with a trunk. Although Corvette would be my first choice. Vettes are the sexiest cars ever built, at least up until the 80s
With 325 ponies in a 2K lb car you'd smoke whoever pulled up next to you at the light 😎 The Caddy engine was much desired among hot-rodders of the time with 'speed' parts available. The bumper might be a custom job built from parts then chromed' can't remember ever seeing one like it. There will always be debate whether the custom and low-number builds are truly production cars compared to the Vette. WYR this Glasspar wins, but the Volvo 1900 has more 'brand identity'; I'd have either. And even this die-hard Ford fan loves the earliest Vettes.
Although I'm familiar with Glasspar boats I didn't realize they were into cars as well. The only cars shown here which I have heard of would be the Kaiser Darren and the Corvette. My car of choice would be the Kaiser Darren.
Small correction. Costa Mesa is pronounced 'Coast-a May-sa'. That Glasspar has been seriously re-powered. Although the OHV Cadillac V8 dates back to 1949, in 1952, it would have been 331 c.i. The Cadillac 390 V8 wasn't introduced until the 1963 model year. Who knows what that car originally came with, but if with the 331, exterior dimensions being the same, a swap to the 390 wouldn't be a problem. They could have also upgraded to the 429 without much problem. But, hopefully the chassis can atleast handle the 390. Because of being a thin-wall casting, the 429 wouldn't have been a good idea.
so.. the corvette claims to be the 1st US production car built in the thousands. Not a custom build. Pretty sure Bill was involved in production of the early vette as he was "Thee Expert" in fiberglass at that time.
I bet that it is a rocket when going down the road!!;-) Glasspar - Chevy but I would bet that Glasspar would kick the shit out of the Corvette lol with the blue flame 6 lol!!!
Its a good thing you do not make many videos, the silent bits at the end drive me crazy, I thought my PC or router died. It's bad for listening in the background. Have to stop what I am doing and skip, they need to be Broll vids of their own not stuck on main vids. And yes I am a sour cat I am emperor dark grump :P lol love ya man!
The Glaspar 2, is best & great looking! I would rather have the Kaiser Darrin. Yes, engine is weak by comparison with Glasspar used Cadillac. I would rather have Glasspar as a second choice. As a third choice I would rather have the Chevrolet Corvette. I have to admit: my attraction is only about design since I'm not too much into convertible 2 doors 2 passengers vehicles due to lack of any practicality. I just admire the toys.
It's a Shame that Cadillac, since it made the Engines, didn't buy the Rights to sell them as the Eldorado Two Seater Sports Car, beating Chevy by a year with the 1953 Corvette. That Caddy Engine must make the car fly.
Little St. Nick the Beachboys. Great episode. So many oddball sports cars produced in the US! Cars 52 Glasspar, Kaiser Darren.
Yeah buddy congratulations you got it =)
Awesome job
Had a 22' Glaspar boat... until it was stolen by the Democrat junkies in 2016...
@@What.its.like. Finally! Something so old even I know what it is 🙂
@@andreamills5852 thanks
That one must be a beast with that big Cadillac engine.
Except the Caddy 390" didn't come out until about 1959...

Glasspar G3 was a hotrod boat in its day...
Great score on showing this car! I did not know a thing about it before your video.
It really is a work of art. Reminds me of the later Devin SS and Lance Reventlow's Scarab.
I like the Glasspar best.
Interesting car!.Never seen or heard of it before.😎
That car should be a screamer! 😀👍
Never stop finding these gems!
I won't I love doing this channel =) happy you dig it as well
Wonderful rare car, Jay, and in superb condition too. Thanks for showing it.
Thanks Jay. I learned a lot of new stuff today.
This '52 Glasspar is for me. The smooth rounded lines, the friendly face in front.
Merry Christmas 🎁 🎄
Merry Christmas happy you got something out of this episode
I would choose the G2 in both scenarios. That is a beautiful car. Good job Jay.
Wow Jay! Now that one is RARE! Should have been able to pass anything in 1952! WYR Glasspar and Corvette. Have a great Christmas!
Volvo p1900
G 2 with a 2/4 barrel carburetor 😳 😲 WOW .....
Sounds like real fun !!!!!
Great car Episode 👍
Happy Motoring ✌️😎
First time I ever seen one very cool thanks for the video
That's about the best example of a Glasspar I have ever seen.
It was like brand new
Awesome car to feature, yet again I learned something. Many thanks for featuring it.
@@49VinCom thank you happy you dig this episode
You gotta love that comic like face. I would take the Glasspar in both scenarios.
Jay, thanks for pronouncing “Willys” correctly! You know how I hound you over pronunciation… btw, Mesa is pronounced “MAY-suh”. 😂. At least on its own.
Haha, you know I try, I just mess up a lot but I appreciate you pointing that out!
The Glaspar is my pick for looks for sure! Very clean early sportscar looks even suggesting early Italian cars and the Cobras of later yrs. Very nice with a power to weight that must have made it a bit frightening! 😀
I'd take the Kaiser Darrin. Those sliding doors were out of sight.
The bumper looks like the one from a Lincoln Continental year 1940/41
Reaxr section of the body, the hips that form the rear fenders, have an animal magnatism
Very cool and unique auto! It looks like it would be a blast to drive! I would go with this one in the second, but the first scenario I think the Volvo would be more my style. Merry Christmas 🎄⛄🎁to you and your family 😎

Sweet choices
This car would be awesome to drive all that power in a light weight body
The hemp bodied Ford sounds a bit like the trabant with its cotton/phenolic body.
Jay, thanks for the video. I didn't know that Chevrolet had V8 in early 50'.
Introduced with the 1955 model.
@danielulz1640 well known, but long after the Glasspar gone (means no Glasspar left the factory with Chevy V8).
You are correct. @@amonwirthiem5762
Later after words they did have a v8 in 1918

Yeah this one has a bigger cam and probably makes more power than specs gave
Fiberglass was the carbon fiber of 1950ties without the excessive price tag. At the time there were still companies putting together cars from components coming from different manufacturers providing own body.
That front bumper looks like a '40 or '41 Lincoln Continental's.

Thank you for that correction
It looks like a Looney toons representation of what a sports car would look like.
That is not the original motor. Cadillac was only a 330 cu in in 52. A few of those cars had Studebaker V8s
Was going to post the same thing. 190 h.p. from factory.
Wildfire for the win!

'55 Wildfire, '54 Darrin
52 glaspar and 54 Kaiser

The Wanderer by Bobby Darin

I'd guess the H was for heat, especially since fan switch was right next to it.
The fan is for engine fan
@What.its.like. WOW I never heard of a fan like that. Then again I drive a Miata so what do I know 😉
Front bumper reminds me of Studebaker or

This is a beautiful, but rather impractical car with no safety features to speak of.
Cars in the 1950's did not have many safety features.
Looks like a death trap worse than the VW beetle.
So? Nobody cared then.
