- There were spectacular scenes across the nation Monday as America experienced the historic solar eclipse. Crowds gathered on rooftops, city sidewalks, beaches and campsites as an estimated 160 million Americans witnessed the moon pass in front of the sun, turning day into night. NASA covered the eclipse with a livestream on the space agency's website, while many who went outside to witness the event for themselves also tried to capture it on their phones. #InsideEdition

The reason they say “TAKE UR GLASSES OFF” is because it’s during totality, during totality you can take off ur glasses and see the corona (the suns atmosphere) around the moon. And if you keep ur glasses on, you’ll see nothing

It was in my area, I had my glasses and brought them to school. GUESS WHAT MY MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS DID. THEY BLOCKED THE WINDOWS AND TURNED ALL THE LIGHTS ON. IM GOING TO BE LIKE 80 WHEN THE NEXT ONE COMES. FML

This eclipse was predicted back in 1887 from a work called “Canon der Finsternisse” by Theodor von Oppolzer
I barely saw the Eclipse because there were a lot of clouds where I was, but hey it was still amazing to see a sliver of it.

Not really...the sun, the moon, and the earth all moves at a constant speed. Once they figured out the pattern it's just a waiting game. That said, my brain power isn't thar great 😂

I remember my mom told me a story about how she experienced a eclipse around September of 1981. In the middle of school.
Here in Wisconsin it was just a cloudy day. Wouldn't have noticed if it was the day or not
My teacher thought this too, I told her how I photographed the sun just fine and how camera lenses aren't like the human iris, she decided that feeling like she was right was better than being right, I filmed it anyway

This was awesome. I was camping in Oregon to see it! The darkness was so sketchy! It was not like the regular nighttime darkness. it was like.. it was just so awesome!

So is looking at the eclipse more harmful than looking the sun? I remember challenging myself to stare at the sun when I was 7, so I'm wondering if that left permanent damage.
This is a little late of a reply but yes. The sun gets stronger during a solar eclipse so it damages your eyes alot more.
@@elitecerealthat doesn’t make any sense, the sun isn’t any stronger, it just appears to be less bright so you can handle looking at it for longer, thus increasing the chances of injury.
the real reason why it’s so dangerous is because of it looking not as bright as the normal sun while staying as dangerous to look at.

Few years ago there was a solar eclipse in Europe and I looked at the sun without having glasses and my vision was purple and I thought I will be blind.I was terrified! But it was for a short time.

I used my iPhone 7 to record the eclipse and I used a pair of eclipse glasses and it made the eclipse more sharper and clear.
I used the glasses to block the camera when I took a picture and my phone is fine :D

It was so cool everyone was outside but it just looked like the moon
It doesn't look like that in person. The camera can't pick it up right because of the contrast between the light and the dark. It really looks like nothing you've ever seen in person. If you ever get a chance to travel to see totality, do it. 99% doesn't compare. It's really amazing to look at.

I looked at it slit without my eclipse glasses and I couldn't focus on anything after that but now I'm fine but it's better to look at them with your glasses where I live we got 90% of the eclipse we were hoping to get a full eclipse but at least we got some

I live in Hilton Head South Carolina which is about only 2 hours away from Charleston and it was raining and cloudy so it did get dark at all and all we saw was clouds and a sliver of the sun but I still think it was pretty cool but I think if it wasn't raining it would've been way more cool

I borrowed some solar eclipse glasses but I missed seeing the eclipse because I closed my eyes and thought about the picture I saw on the internet but then when I had to give the glasses back I realized I didn’t see anything.

lockodonis The rest of the world couldn't watch because it was only over the United States and some part of the Pacific and Atlantic ocean. So yeah, we were cheering because this is the first time since 1908 that the whole U.S was covered. I reserve my right to be excited for something that only happens every so many years.

Didn't get to see it and we live in central but more northern Alabama. The news said being so close to Nashville, TN. (one of the states it's going through) that we should have similar effects. So disappointed. smh :(
