Another fantastic production by the CNA team! The only issue I have is that the white background looks a little weird😅 The chief marker spoke very well and succinctly. Hopefully PSLE takers will watch this to get some sensing on how their answers will be marked, to get a better idea on how to score higher for their papers. Perhaps it may be a good idea for CNA to send a team to get an insight about the lives of teachers preparing P6 students for PSLE? Teachers are pretty overworked most of the time, and have to stow away their emotions just to get their job done. I feel it would be an interesting and insightful watch for both current PSLE and ex-PSLE takers!
CNA need lot of improvement. Some time content good but filming lousy. This type of setup is seriously very amateur 😂 but at least sound recording is clear.
Actually for your first question, it’s possible. A friend of mine actually took psle with no tuition with the exception of mother tongue, which in his case is Chinese Language. He got AL12.
I can show you - an example of an answer that had exact the same meaning as what the teacher wanted to hear but phrased in own words, which was marked as wrong - a text that did not have the keywords and got low score - a rating that is more reflecting the personal opinion than a conceptual understanding of the answer and got zero score. I know, no system is flawless.
You may be surprised to learn that some of these thinking and writing skills to demonstrate the understanding of concepts and application are missing in many adults in the workforce today. These foundational skills learnt at school are essential, beyond the goals of great grades and entry into fine schools in Singapore. Perhaps Singaporean parents and students should be comforted to know that opportunities for success do not lie solely within the shores of Singapore. These skills that they pick up at school carry a lot of value abroad, where standards of education are less uniform. This should alleviate some of the angst around scarcity and elitism in the Singapore school system, and spur students and parents to view their educational journey more holistically.
The interviewee was awesome but the audio for the producer was horrible. Might have been better to just use graphics with text to show the questions instead of cutting her sound bite in. She was recorded with the camera mic and not the lavalier mic like the interview subject & it was easy for her voice to be lost in the ambient sound of the noisy school. Production issues aside, I’m grateful that this was covered to better help parents and students understand the process of PSLE grading and the importance of understanding concepts and applying judiciously vs rote learning and just regurgitating without thought.
In the description of possibilities of answers where they have to update SEAB and before it gets cascaded to others across the island, I wonder how many scripts would have had passed those answers and marked ‘wrong’, just because perhaps it wasn’t in the answer script or whatever.
The same general marking principles apply. If you want to see what a mark scheme might look like, you can go to Cambridge International's website. The subjects there all have some past year papers, mark schemes and examiner reports to look at.
Only in SG our girls and boys can go out at night in the street with ease in mind. As an adult I never feel safe to walk on street of Europe during my stay there. Look at Ukraine and Argentina, they vote for a sweet talker that bring hell to the country. If Singaporean vote for WP, then be prepared to be like Argentina and Ukraine 😂😂😂

They should also asked : is that possible to prepare for PSLE without tuition from outside? How school ensure their students prepared well for PSLE ?

I found out I got the mark for the boat question for psle last year through this video.

Quite alarmed that this Chief marker actually answered in the wrong context / misinterpreted TWO of the producer’s questions!! 6:21 and 11:31 🙈
thanks for the advice!
Please do an episode for N and O levels too

I wish CNA did one on marking of English especially Paper 1.

This is updated in May 2023

During exams, where got time to analyze and think deeply, out of the box ah ??? It is either you know or you don't.
ya that’s exactly how they distinguish between an A or B student
Very creative video. N your chinese very the powderful! Impressed❤
Pls do 1 episode how they set PSLE questions.
Trust me the best way to mark psle is to give the student grade A. 🥹
Why I see this only after my psle
Wonder if it is the same for O Levels. Wished i saw this before my PSLE
Time constraints and take your time does not work together.
Let's always do alot of good ❤️
no donwan
@CPDD and @SEAB, do you talk?
"answer the question"
I rmb one of my teachers (not pri sch) saying before, "ATBQ!! Answer the bloody question!!!" 🤣

why he looks like megamind
The key word concept is bad. So glad to hear this is not the primary marking method.
Wow! S'pore is the happiest country in Asia because s'poreans acknowledge that PAP is the only competent and responsible party in s'pore.❤❤
Of course. Undisputed for outstanding track records until KBWs start to dispute so...
