This is an amazing skull! I'll see if I can work with some fish experts to get a better ID on this. Thanks so much for watching and a huge thanks for the Patreon.com supporters that financed all this! More videos on www.patreon.com/mamlambo
Thanks to you and your efforts, the existence of this creature isn't lost forever, washed and eroded away by the sea. Think of how amazing and unlikely the timing had to be; first for the fish to BE fossilized and buried, then to be revealed by erosion JUST enough at JUST the right time for some sentient ape with tools to come along and RECOGNIZE it, extract it, bring it home and prep it. It makes me wonder how many fossils have been buried for millions of years only to be exposed again by erosion, then that brief window of opportunity closes as it erodes completely away, before anyone ever discovered it, and now it's just gone forever. I've really enjoyed this series!
Fossils aren't just a visual thing. It's "Exhilarating" to let your imagination wander and think about the animal hunting or escaping larger predators in a prehistoric environment. A hobby that allows you to physically touch the distant past. Fantastic !
Pleeease let us see you prep the rest of it!! I love seeing the Timelapse of your work, it’s beautiful and so satisfying to watch. 🥰 “fossil prep timelapse” is a genre of media I have currently only seen you do but a genre I REALLY want to expand
That is a fantastic fossil! I can't believe that it stayed all together in that soft sediment! It's incredible! What an amazing and lucky find! It's awesome Morne! Thanks for sharing!💕
Hi from the Netherlands! I wanted to say you work so carefully and do your research so well! Its always a pleasure to see your work. To bad its a little bit far to visit your workshop. Im building and restoring a ice age mammoth. Taking it slow because the further I get, the less space I have left in my shed😂. But bigger is not better. Good luck with this awesome find. From a dutch amateur paleontologist.
@@MamlamboFossils Its about 80%. The skull is also in 100 pieces so only that gonna take some time for restauration. Maybe i make a video of it, But im not a experienced filmer. Maybe some kind of timelaps is cool. Looking forward to your next video’s!
Hey Brother, The work you do is ultra astounding. You go to the next level.I am a Geo from Australia and "you are the best" I always look forward to your posts Cheers
For more precise application through a syringe i highly recommend some leur lock bent tip dispensing needles, theyre blunt tipped and made for dispensing liquids like adhesives and irrigation etc using those syringes and are under a fiver for a pack of a hundred
Hahaha i just ended up here by the algorithm and i was like no way this is fake and the first shot is it on an MRI....ok fine this actually like every kids dream.
I can't believe how intact it is, fantastic find mate! Don't think I've ever seen a fossil in such sandy matrix, I was holding my breath the entire time thinking it was just going to crumble away! What a piece! Can't wait for the next one :)
Wooooow ! That's indeed a COOL skull ! How old is it ? Amazing how you can hold it in your hands like this. The B72 is not letting nasty traces on it ?
I loved this video! I actually work with CT scans myself and telling apart fossilized bone and generic rock looks quite hard in terms of density. What kVp and mA did you use for the scan? Will you release the acquisition parameters? Cheers
It's a bit of a problem really. So many fossils but so few keeping them and so few museums wanting them. As with any physical item, you can leave it to someone in a will but you can't guarantee that the thing will be kept and not thrown away etc. Museums have only a limited amount of space for storing things. Maybe the universities should take in and look after a lot of the fossils that may be unwanted.
Imagine going for an m.r.i scan and finding someone pushing a stone with a fossil in it, in with you? "Oh, we thought we'd do two for the price of one." Or for lots of us, two fossils.
So the mud its in isnt that 70 million year old mud is it. Otherwise it would be like cement? Can the mud, or surrounding area be dated? Even if its a least than 1 million years old, its still very very old to a human.
I can't believe how easily that skull rolled out for you.... after all the hard work you've done on less complex fossils, this happening is just insane!

I have had cakes that didn't turn out of the pan as easy as this fish rolled out of the mud. great job. thank you

My pleasure Lisa!! I'm glad you liked it - it's a very fortunate find!
@@MamlamboFossils - luck - nope he puts in the time and effort! It’s hard work rewarded!
Congratulations on having it remain so intact - also kudos to you for taking all necessary precautions. 😊
Before flipping put a thin plastic film over it . Then use spray foam to provide a support.

That sounds like such an amazing project!!! How complete is this mammoth?

I'll look into that! Thanks!
Great to see that it stayed together for you
thank for saving this treasure and letting everyone accompany you in this journey.
Fantastic effort and i am glad it was you that found it.
Congratulations!
Another glimpse into the past.
very exciting!🇺🇸👍
Wow what an amazing find! It's turned great!

Lol you better check out the penguin and crab then 🤣
and turtle skull
I ended up on the channel in a similar way... Be prepared for the hours of videos you're about to watch 😅
Welcome to the club, buddy! Been here for 4 years, now. Easily one of my favorite TH-cam channels
Can't wait for the next installment. Love it. Thank you for sharing.
Epic find thanks for sharing

I was very fortunate to have it stay intact!
Wow so awesome. Glad it all stay together. Great job as always.
WOW nice fossil! Loved watching this process, thank you for showing it!
Great find!
That fossilized shark tooth cushion design was very appropriate. Cheers.
It suited the aesthetic 😄
Awesome, how well that came out, Morne! What a spectacular specimen! 🔥🔥
Thanks Alexander!!
Totally awesome I new this was going to be outstanding sir thank you for sharing this with us six stars brother
Thanks so much Joseph!
So cool! I love the excited chuckles 😊
I was pretty happy!!
How cool is that! That fossil skull was only a tide or from being lost forever.
Incredible, isn’t it?
Stunning find! Congratulations!
Dude love your work
Awesome find at first I thought it might be a bird but it does match the scull of a barracuda
Im so excited! Im smiling ear to ear 😅
Wooooow !
That's indeed a COOL skull ! How old is it ?
Amazing how you can hold it in your hands like this.
The B72 is not letting nasty traces on it ?
B72 is what museums use as you can reverse it
So awesome, man! Thank ya for sharing these fantastic videos!
ANOTHER AMAZING FIND!❤
I loved this video! I actually work with CT scans myself and telling apart fossilized bone and generic rock looks quite hard in terms of density. What kVp and mA did you use for the scan? Will you release the acquisition parameters? Cheers
Oooh good question! Looking at the DICOM metadata, kVp was 120 and I couldn't find the mA :)
Good job
Absolutely beautiful
The lower jaw is built super strong with this bugger! He must have had a really mighty bite! Not a one you want to find in your swimming pool!
Great handling that skull in that type of Terra firma.
Pretty cool!
Nice find!
That was awesome to watch! It will look so nice at the end!
Wow you didn’t break it. Well done - amazing find!
I'm so glad!!
Congratulations bro!
Fantastic "catch"! :)
really cool great job keeping it together
What a beast!!
Sure would love to see the finished product of this skull
I very much enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
That's a relief! Does B72 dry clear or opaque?
clear if there is no moisture present, you can always re-apply if it''s not clear
Amazing!
Incredible.
I didn't expect that to hiding in the mud 😂
Muito legal
Fantastic.
Thats so awesome ❤👋🇫🇮
This will be awesome! I already know that!
Another great find 🤘
That was so cool!!
Are you wet sieving all the removed sediment for microfossils and lost pieces?
Yip, I've kept it all in a bucket and will do down to 60 microns
🌟
That’s brilliant ❤
could that big bone be an operculum (gill cover)
I'll have to remove some rock to check :)
MAMLAMBO...................
That is so cool❤✌️ Napa California
I wonder if a water pik tooth flossing machine would help with soft sediment removal. It’s a tiny water jet machine.
That could work!
Is the museum interested in this Morne? Seems to be very complete.
I have shown it to them :)

Awesome! How much would you price it at?
I'm sure you commented this previously, it doesn't have monetary value and doesn't belong to me. I'm just taking care of it
ok
Hi I have some stones I just want you to see are they gemstones
I wouldn't want to catch one of those!!! 😊

I'm a little late to this what animal does the skull belong too
Some fish like a barracuda
@@MamlamboFossils okay
How much does it even cost to scan a fossil?
Pacific Radiology have been doing it for free as the technician is volunteering to stay after hours and do it
Not a barracuda as the teeth are wrong.
underbite like my mother in law
❤😊
Sp3cimen?
Maybe Gempylidae
@@MamlamboFossils thanks
