Once when I was young I saw a contrabassoon in the window of Payne's Music. It was less bent over than this, maybe 8 feet tall, and I could tell that it needed a lot of work to get functional again (at least all the pads and keys had to get replaced), and still it was selling for something crazy like $3000, and I was just wondering what was the story - who in my city had played this instrument into the grave? Was it someone from the town philharmonic who'd fallen on hard times and had to sell his contrabassoon?
This is awesome to see. Although I know Sophie was the contrabassoonist in the Berlin Phil, I had never actually heard her play. In other news, this is the second time I've heard a newer Püchner contra, and I *really* want one. Congratulations, Püchner craftsmen on a beautiful instrument.
when i was young my director demonstrated a contrabassoon to me in person, but told me we could never use it in person due to costs. even though i was our best bassoon player.
Ich denke mal, dass Rohrblätter für so ein Elefantenfurzfagott nicht arg viel teurer sind als für ein normales Fagott. Aber genau kann ich das nicht sagen, ich bin kein Fagottist.

What a gorgeous sound.
Yes, indeed! Unbelievable.
Beautiful instrument period
Für das gibt es ein Like ❤
Wow! Amazing performance of this outstanding piece. Schulhoff would be proud. Even the "horn-rimmed glassed salon-intellectuals" would applaud! 😊
Wow. Just amazing!
Not only a fantastic bassoonist but competent on contra. Very rare.
She was the principal contra in the Berlin Phil before she won the job in Vienna, so "competent" isn't exactly doing her any justice...
Hello from Argentina I have been with her nice to see you dear Sophie best regards guillermo from Salta orquesta Symphonic
thanks

Sounds like something that could be played on other instruments too;) nice!
The reeds on that gotta cost 100000000$. Nice solo
Jajaja! Commento epicando 😂
I taught myself a few notes on bassoon in 1986. Reed was $10
@@sueklimes6111 The reeds I typically buy are around 23 dollars each. ToT What I would give for $10 reeds that work for my instrument....
I taught myself a little bassoon in 1985-86. Think reeds were $10 also
