Most DDR players go for the technicality, Freestylers are in it for the showmanship. In other words, Even 7 years after uploading this, these guys are still pretty dope.
15 years. Still awesome. They are legends. Wished there were freestyle DDR/Stepmania streamers but no, they just want to use those 🍗 🍗 😅 They're still amazing for the accuracy, nonetheless.
This reminds me of many great times playing DDR at local arcades. Back in the mid to late 2000's, it was so popular that there was always a line for it and tons of people would stand around to watch the best local players. Now every arcade in my city has been closed for several years and there isn't a DDR machine within 200 miles. Sigh...
japanese DDR players/dancers/freestylers are always so damn good.. they freestyle/dance good,. & so much fun also to watch..! ..always reminds me *WHY* i love DDR.. . :')
This is such a solid routine, sure they could have made their dance look better, but they're probably the coolest looking DDR players I've ever seen lol.
This is more impressive than someone beating a song on Heavy. They can put in additional movies on top of learning the song backward. These guys are true DDR enthusiasts
Damn u guys were awesome, this is one of my fav song from the ddr collection. It's been a long time since i don't play it, i was about to buy ddr for wii and i checked the play list and it was all american crapy music. The reason i loved ddr was all those frckng amazing techno beat songs (eurodance) whatever u wanna call it. Hope u know what I'm saying. Latest ddr are not the same for me :(
That's the problem with localization. Especially for Rythm Games. I, for example, like the gameplay of Taiko No Tatsujin and DDR a lot, but I only really like about 15 songs of it. I'm not really into J-Pop. And that would be even worse with a Western audience as soon as they aren't hardcore weebs. And you can't really be successful with a fking small playerbase which is known for pirating most of it's content. However I played DDR X2 (AC) about 1.5 years ago and it featured a lot of titles, as well as the titles from the ealier games, afaik. And I'm pretty sure they didn't change the song list too much (it still had "Only my Railgun" on it and tons of other things I personally hadn't expected for an American release, although the machine itself was in Italy, I think it was the NA version)
I think DDR should be played this way. The Maniac modes makes people look like they are just scrambling their feet while they hang on to the bar for dear life. (They call that dancing?) The game needs some choreography.
@KyuubiiChibi Most freestyles are played on standard difficulty. It's more about precise timing and impressing the crowd than it is difficulty from what I've witnessed over the years. Some people are extremely talented and can freestyle on harder difficulties but it usually is not necessary.

7 years after this comment, it's still true.

I just looked it up, it seems the machine had a EU release as well. That might explain it.

It's called Challenge (or Oni). Some songs require you to press all 4 arrows at the same time, in different combinations.
