  • The end of the growing season is near, and the allotment garden has reached its peak with the harvests coming in fast! Everything is ready to harvest all at once, and at the last minute this year!
September is a time for clearing beds and getting those jobs done ready for the winter ahead. But did you know, there are still (yes, still) plenty of seeds to be sown in September?
In fact, some of the things on my list are best planted from September onwards.
I'm down on the allotment today, and we are going over some of the veggies (and flowers) you can be sowing and planting in September.
This will ensure some quick last minute harvests and even harvests for over the winter and next spring! It's not over just yet!
These seeds can be sown outside, but they'll do much better in a greenhouse or polytunnel. You'll lengthen your growing season, too.
What seeds are you sowing and planting in September, in your garden/allotment?
I hope this video helps you guys out in some way.

😂 my one green pepper 🫑 rotted 🤦‍♀️. Last chance is only if you’re not a gambler 😊 I am doing spinach and may try broad beans again with the hope it doesn’t drip to minus 14c again this winter. Great update Jim and superb harvests, Ali 🌞🥵🇨🇦 32c

For nitrogen fixing plants, leaves the roots in the ground, otherwise the nitrogen won't be released as much. The nodules need to decompose to get that lovely nitrogen in the soil biology.

Are these all for outdoors or are some only for greenhouse?

Hi James, sorry to sound dumb but when you said about microgreens, especially broccoli, do you use the normal seeds or are they special seeds? Would love to give these a go!

Not at all! Many seed companies such as premier seeds direct, sell bulk amounts of seeds specifically for sowing microgreens as you'd sow them very densely in trays or pots or whatever. They're just standard seeds, so yes you can just sow your usual veggie seeds but that would be more expensive. I wouldn't sow a packet of hybrid broccoli seeds for example, which contain only 20 or so seeds 😂 here's some on premier seeds direct:

What is your tattoo about? Is it botanical? 😊

It's a tattoo in memory of my father who passed in 2015. He was a lover of gardening too, hence the rose. Also loved watches, used to fix them up, hence the pocket watch but also the hands point to the date he passed. The lid is opened and has an image of me and him flying a kite
