I’d rather have Stewart allowing Mitchell to be a huge wing, some rim/paint protection (a weakness of this team) better rebounding and can relieve Flip of guarding some centers depending on the matchup. That said, I love how Caleb is looking and will be very valuable for this squad.

I think Roach is the least talented of the 4 top guards. Definitely the deepest group of guards Duke's ever had. Even Schutt looks like someone who can put up some points in blowouts.
Oh absolutely, he was a difference maker last year and will be an even bigger one this year. Definitely agree about going in the 1st round as well. Depending on how his season goes, I think he's a lottery pick. Actually, we got in my opinion 8 nba locks, and I absolutely believe another 3 guys could also make the nba. Talking about loaded with talent, 10 or 11 nba caliber players. This team is definitely 1 of Dukes deepest, most talented teams in a while, possibly ever. We've had many talented teams, but i can't think of any that the talent level stayed so high so far down the bench. Coach K never really had many deep teams, usually about a 7-man rotation, and this year can realistically be a 10-man rotation easily, lol. Still gotta get all that talent to play together as a team, though, but from what I've been seeing and reading, it all convinces me that Duke is gonna light it up this season. I can't wait to get to Cameron indoor, finally the season is almost upon us. Let's Go Duke!!!

This roster is loaded with talent. Basically could have 2 separate starting 5 teams with all that talent. 4 elite all-acc caliber guards will drive this team late in March. Ridiculous depth in the backcourt. Obviously goes without saying how good Duke will be in the frontcourt with a NPOY candidate in Flip and Mark next to him. Ridiculously talented Blue Devil team.
Agreed. People forget a huge issue in the Tenn game was also the foul trouble Roach got in because we had no Guard depth. Roach and Proctor were exhausted by the end. Rolling 4 deep with little drop off between all 4 is huge with the grind of tourny season.
@@areoinstylz - nah, Reddick didn’t play with many good shooters…. He had Ewing in his jr year and his senior year it was Paulus, Dockery and company. With Hill, the long ball just wasn’t as big of a factor as it is now-Laettner was their best shooter and Hurley was efficient but there simply weren’t many good shooters-Thomas Hill had a good Jr season shooting but slumped off in his Sr year. This team looks to have 4 guards that will get heavy minutes-assuming 3 don’t start, it means that the 2 starters and first two off the bench can all shoot well. Mitchell can fill it up from the wing and we expect for Flip to be more efficient this year based on natural growth with great mechanics. Their two best shooters are probably Schutt and Power but we’ll have to see how much playing time they get-I’d expect more for TJ. By sheer numbers, this is a better shooting team than either of those despite JJ being the best shooter of all of them and Laettner being the highest percentage 3 PT shooter in Duke’s history. Quantity of many good shooters over the quality of a couple excellent ones. Plus this current group has a lot of size/length with their shooters to get the shot off more easily outside of Roach. McCain isn’t tall but much stronger and heavier (muscle) than Roach but both can still create space. Doesn’t mean the numbers will add up-still have to go out there and make the potential come to fruition.

I'm Australian and it's really hard to catch college ball here. I watched as many games as I could last season (for Tyrese Proctor).... and I worry a bit about Roach in terms of ego. Is that who you were thinking of? He seemed to force a lot of bad shots in the games I watched. Obviously I was watching with my Australian bias, but I remember feeling frustrated that Roach missed Proctor on a lot of possessions where he should have passed to an open Tyrese, and forced up a tough, contested brick instead. Roach is a senior now right? Will he be starting beside Proctor in the backcourt? Caleb looks too good to stay out of the starting lineup for long. Roach did force shots sometimes last year but Scheyer kinda just had to eat it because he had no one to put in.. this year he has 3 guys he can sub in and feel good about it. This years team is truly as loaded as I’ve ever seen a college team. Rivals 2015 Kentucky

For the first time in a long time, I think we’re going to see a Duke team that simply boat races opponents…. Especially when Young and Reeves aren’t in the game. One more note defensively-really good length on the perimeter within their rotations…. Only Roach as their one G that doesn’t have good size/length and Mark will be a 6’9” wing.

@@areoinstylz - I liked his player development throughout the year--brought Proctor along and slid him over the to the PG spot was a good timing move--kept the ball in Roach's hands for a while rather than putting it all on the young reclassified freshman but was still willing to give him the keys. Lively was the kind of player that would've stayed in K's doghouse but Jon brought him along keeping his confidence high and he was an important defender--truly he's the missing piece from this year's team. About the only thing I didn't like was I thought he should've gone a bit ballistic at the botched UVA call--he was too calm for me on that one. I also didn't like the minutes distribution in the NCAA tourney--shrunk the bench like K did. As for the highest praise from year one was the team itself--he had fewer returning contributors in Duke's long history. He also dealt with the Dariq and Lively injuries causing them to miss time over the summer and never living up to their full ranking potential--story out of practices was that Flip was behind the curve but he didn't play like it during the season. And a sweep over UNC--I don't care what kind of team they had--sweeping them is always high on the list of priorities.
I don’t hate that idea but would probably go with Stewart over RY for the defensive flexibility and for the spacing on the offensive end. He’s an inch shorter but plays above the rim. I’m sure Young is a better rebounder at this stage of the game and has about 10 extra pounds to lean on opponents with but I don’t think that will make up for the versatility Stewart offers. But yes, those two off the bench will be cooking

Well that’s been the concern all offseason. What can you do? We tried to get guys but they all wanted 2 million a year

I don’t hate that idea but would probably go with Stewart over RY for the defensive flexibility and for the spacing on the offensive end.
He’s an inch shorter but plays above the rim. I’m sure Young is a better rebounder at this stage of the game and has about 10 extra pounds to lean on opponents with but I don’t think that will make up for the versatility Stewart offers.
But yes, those two off the bench will be cooking
