Hi Jennifer, I have recently bought a Cricut Maker 3 mainly for cutting card for model railway projects but found your TH-cam channel. The way you show the steps is great, not too quick and not too laboured (yes I'm English), with explanations of why things work or don't. Thank you. I'll be making a lot more than card railway models now.
Same!!! I stupidly thought we basically used transfer tape on ALL the things including iron on vinyl.🤦♀🤦♀Imagine my frustration of trying to get iron on vinyl to stick just enough to some basic dollar tree brown cotton placemats and I could not for the life of me get the letters off the transfer tape without really having to pull and tug and stretch and all so by the time I was ready to heat press these intricate letters on the first placemat and got them off the transfer tape to try and eyeball, well they kept trying to roll up into little balls and I was ready to rip my hair out. lmao
Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and time to help all of us learn how to move forward just a little faster. I have finally taken mine out of the closet and plan to learn a lot more!
❤Thanks! You explained each type of tape as reqiured! Which i had saw this video before buying the tape! Just started using Cricut machine 2 weeks ago!
I have a major frustration. The cricut strong transfer tape practically welds to the vinyl and is extremely difficult to remove. I tried reducing some of the stickiness but still had a very hard time getting it off after playing my vinyl on the wood project. Was using Oracle vinyl but had the same issue with cricut removable vinyl on another project. I have to destickify it more I think next time. yep strong is what I have and I stupidly have two rolls.
Jennifer, I hope Cricut supplies you with all your materials for free! Without your guidance I'd still be staring at my Joy Xtra sitting forlornly unused.
Hi Jennifer, I loved your older videos where you told us about all different options, including cricut competitors. I really wish you would tell us about non cricut options as well.
I mentioned painter's tape and Press 'N' Seal. I don't use any other transfer tape beyond what it is in this video really, other than the stuff for the wet vinyl method. These are what work best for me right now. Next time I do a video like this, I'll try to get some other brands to try and compare.
Not sticky enough, not burnished enough, the wrong type of transfer tape like glitter vinyl with regular transfer tape. It needs the strong transfer tape to work.

I am not sure I understand what you want to transfer card stock to as you would need to glue card stock. Transfer tape is used to transfer permanent and removable vinyl to the surface that you want to adhere it to. You can ask in the group and show photos of what you want to achieve for help. facebook.com/groups/cricutcraftersandmakers/
I make tumblers with printed vinyl, which transfer tape is best when adding a decal to the tumbler with out the transfer tape messing up the image on printed vinyl
I suppose you could try that if the gift bag is not too thick to go through the machine but I would suggest to write on card stock and glue it on or use stickers. jennifermaker.com/diy-gift-bag/ jennifermaker.com/how-to-use-printable-vinyl-with-cricut/
I want to but vinyl on bags the are not made of fabric. What would I use for transfer tap. It states on the bags not to use iron on vinyl. Thanks for you advice
You could test out regular transfer tape that has been used a few times or pat it on fabric, towels or your jeans to take some of the sticky away. Some people have used regular contact paper as well even masking tape or paper tape you can try.
Any suggestions on getting smart vinyl to stick to Cricut transfer tape. I have the toughest time with that. I burnish it so much and still won't come up.
It is a cutting machine but you can draw a design with it. You can do print then cut but the printer will print and the Cricut will then cut it out. jennifermaker.com/how-to-use-printable-vinyl-with-cricut/
Newbie here! 👋 May I ask why the lettering on the bottom layer “stay cool” blue piece was cut out and not left as a full background? Is it because once you place the orange “stay cool” piece on top it will be too raised? I hope my description makes sense 😅
I am the one who thought strong grip was better😅, after watching your video and try to use the printer’s tape, I was finally able to do it well. Thank you so much❤
I'm using the right kind of transfer tape (strong grip for shimmer). I did learn the hard way that the regular grip would not stick. But once I apply my decal (usually just labels right now) I still can't get the tape off without tearing up my letters. I'm sooo frustrated and wasting a lot of materials. What is the trick? Is the Font I choose also contributing to the problem?
Hi Jennifer , I just purchased a mini heat press 10x10 size i love it , I have a cricut explore love it also, i cut out a name , i put it on transfer tape , i heated up my heat press, i tried to transfer a name on a 100 percent cotton at 330 F& for 30 seconds, just like it said to do, it would not transfer at all , i done just like the book said to do, t shirt is 100 percent cotton , could u tell me what the problem is ? love all ur vedios i enjoy learning how to work with my heat press from you.I wondered if could be the type of transfer tape? Ty for reading this
You don't use transfer tape with heat transfer vinyl since it already has its own backing. Make sure you are using the htv and not regular vinyl. You can always ask in my FB group as well, facebook.com/groups/cricutcraftersandmakers/ 💗
Hi Jennifer, I made some decals with the removable smart vinyl and can’t get them to stick to the regular transfer tape, it looks like the vinyl glue is too strong! I ended up transferring some with regular tape! I’m so frustrated 😢
Hi, Jeniffer ! Just starting in the crafting business and bought a « Joy » for my small projects. I just love it ! My problem with transfer tape is that, no matter how much I try to make the transfer tape stick to the vinyl, it just won't stick to it (even if I burnish it front and back). I tried to use. the strong type and... useless say the disastrous results I had. 😅. The learning curve is sooo long. I wonder what I'm doing wrong. I'm using Smart, Permanent Vinyl (Matte), on a mat, with standard grip transfer tape. Am I missing something here ?? I'm about to try heating the reverse side (liner) with an iron at low temperature to somewhat soften the vinyl's adhesive. Is that a good idea, or I'm asking for an other disaster to happen ? Please help... I'm a lost, dead in the water, and I can see a giant wave approaching... and I don't know how to swim !!! 😯😰😭 Thank you for your advises. They are greatly appreciated, believe me !! Have a great day.
Why do I battle to get my image to stick to the transfer tape as if I have not brayed it enough. To stick the whole image to the tape. I have to use my poker utensil tool to lift it onto the tape in a number of areas and it’s so time consuming. Then to be able to apply it to my plate my image is so well stuck to the transfer tape. That I have to help it off the transfer tape. What tape should I use that is a light grip tape. Thanks it’s very frustrating. Printers tape works well but on top of a decal is hard as people can’t see thru the blue painters tape to see the image what clear tape can I use. So if someone’s bus the decal I know the image will transfer off the tape lik hot butter. Many thanks. Linda
You can make it less sticky by pressing it onto a soft surface like a towel, your shirt, or pant leg to pick up some lint. This will make it act more like standard grip transfer tape.
Hi Jennifer, I am applying Smart Iron-On Heat Transfer Vinyl to my grandson's t-shirt. However, before I cut the design it showed to 'mirror' the image, which I did. Now I don't know how to get the design off of the mat (I put it on the mat to weed it). How do I get my design off of the mat with the transfer tape. The image still has the vinyl backing on it and it's 'mirrored' so it's reading backwards.
I made a layered wall decal (removable vinyl), when I tried to apply the top layer (a thin outline of the animal) the transfer tape wouldn’t come off the vinyl no matter how slowly I went🫤 I used standard grip tape but it wouldn’t budge!
I hate to admit this but, transfer tape and the entirely confusing different vinyls for different things has kept me from using my Cricut Maker 3 except when I did a trial tote bag when I got it over a year ago. I have yet to master the whole what types of transfer tapes to use with what and had no idea there was even such a thing when I first got my Cricut Maker 3 so my first project was stupidly weeding the design and trying to eyeball it as best I could without transfer tape or anything. Then months later I attempted to make fall/xmas personalized placemats for our dinning table and tried to use transfer tape for the first time with I suppose iron on vinyl and my first mistake was not realizing I didn't have to mirror the image if I was using transfer tape so I recut without mirroring it and then tried using transfer tape so my letters didn't move and guess what?! For the life of me I could NOT get the vinyl to stick to the placemat and still had to peel and eyeball each letter and then heat pressed them on while it was battle of the fittest because they kept tryin to roll from peeling it off the transfer tape. lol. Needless to say, after 1 of 4 names I beyond irritated and haven't touched my maker since. lol. Thanks to this video I might just feel educated enough to go at it again this year and actually make our placemats. haha
Can anyone offer a suggestion and solution to stop the trasfer tape sticking so much to the vinyl that when i eventutally remove it, the vinyl left on the product is quite sticky (like a layer has been peeled off it in the process) - hope this makes sense! Thanks

Hello Jennifer! What is the best transfer tape for putting vinyl on paper projects without ripping the paper? I’ve struggled with this! 😅
I think there is a kind that is more like masking tape that might work better, but I'm not sure.🤔
You could use masking tape.
After you put the vinyl on the transfer tape blot the transfer tape on clothes, towels, anything to make it less sticky before putting it on paper.
