i love how they got the beautiful tan and beautiful pale Mexicanas to model the diffferent styles cuz in every mexican family you've got a guera and a morena
I know right? And you mentioned they were covered up AND they looked proper, basically they looked and dressed the same as everyone in the '40s, so I don't get that
Yeah. When my mom went to school in California, there were some girls who actually did just that. They were the more gangbanger types, though, I think.
Sometimes BF puts out really dumb shit... And sometimes it puts out lovely gems like this. Well done on the great fashion display and the history/heritage lesson!
I'd recommend reading the play, "Zoot Suit" by Luis Valdez! It really give you an insight to the injustices felt then and the style and language common then as well!
Pretty sure the pin up or rockabilly look was inspired or copied from Pachuca culture. Anyways, super proud of this video! I love that you're educating your viewers on Mexican-American culture #NiDeAquiNiDeAlla
@@TuAmigoElMorrocoy Never !!! Go look at older pictures and you'll see. Pachucos are 30's and 40's generations, not 50's. Pachucos come from Chuco Town out of Texas. It was adopted out here in Los Angeles.
@Mark Grant Yup, white people shaved their heads first, no question but if you really want to know truth go ask a South Sider to give you the real version of why it is that they shave their heads. The same could be said about whites rocking a Mohawk but nobody questions when and why they started styling their heads that way. That being said, Pachucos are a generation of the 30's and 40's that came originated out of Chuco Town and came out here to California and was embraced by Mexican angelenos. But to me it seems like it's a cross between both sides of the fence. Pin ups and Pachuco style go hand in hand which is why it's very often to see rockabilly's looking like Pachucos and vice versa. There's a very small distinction between the two and can easily be confused if you don't pay attention.
+northernsoutherngirl It's crazy because when black ppl say we still face/go through the same thing those before us went through, there's a whole lot of arguing on the videos about black pp needing to get over things, but when other races do it, it's applauded. I see a lot of black ppl willing to learn about other cultures, but don't know much about their own, not saying this is the case for you, but i hope when you learn calo and talk with Latinos who speak it, you are able to communicate to them a bit about your own culture, while learning theirs. : )
I understand what you're saying. :-) My dearest friend is Mexicana, but was raised in Texas. I am going to ask her if she knows anything about the Pachuca culture & the "calo" language.
@@byoung4eva1 latino is not a race. It’s a word to condense people who speak Spanish into one box. There are white, black, tan, mestizos, etc. La verdad es que nadie de este lado del mundo está hablando sus idiomas naturales except for very rare indigenous nations. Do whether you’re mixed with African or European, Latino is a group, not a race
To me these Pachuca looks remind me a lot of Frida Kahlo. Which was a revolutionary woman fighter where these ladies got most of the fashion ideas from.
You said it sister.. remember and never forget Mexican people are the most beautiful and powerful people on earth. I am also so glad God spit me out as a Mexicano.... God bless us and let us all help each other grow one day soon.
Pero Like does really awesome youtube vlogs.. It doesn't get publicity it deserves. I'm not even hispanic but I appreciate the great videos that are made on this vlog.
love this so much- can't believe you didn't mention the drawing of the line in pencil on the back of the women's legs because they couldn't afford to buy stockings (in conservation of fabric and materials needed for WWII). saw the woman in red wearing it!! such bad asses
Whatever my Raza do, please don't be the first to call this a " Hispanic/Latino " style. It's a CHICANO style !!! Our Raza did not go through what they did only for decades later a bunch of non Mexicans or even Chicanos calling our revolutionary style " Hispanic/Latino " when it was Mexicans/CHICANOS who went through the struggles and injustices, not any of these so called " hispanics/Latinos " of today. We MEXICANS are not Hispanic nor Latino either, we are MEXICANS !!!! Get that straight !!! Mexican/Chicano pride ese 🇲🇽
Does it really matter tho?? we’re all Latinos at the end of the day. We all have that native blood. Reggaeton, bachata, latin trap, merengue originated from Puerto Rico/ Dominican Republic, Cumbia originated from Colombia. Punta originated from Honduras. Salsa originated from Cuba. We all share our cultures, music, food. And of the top of that we’re mixing with other Latinos. And In music videos we represent other Latino people.
You also think only Mexicans faced discrimination and injustices other Latinos did so too, Even we discriminate amongst each other just because he’s from another Latin American country. Mexicans discriminated Salvadorans back in the day. I wonder why??
Love this!!! they kinda looked like the cutest gfs for a few seconds when they held hands at the end. quick question though: what is the trick for getting hair that big and have it stay in place, especially if your hair is curly, anyone know?
Omg, when I was a teen I went with my sister as she went to her friends house who stayed with her grandma and ended up chatting with her and she started telling me about how she used to run with a gang of Latino girls and that they would put blades in their buns and brawled. She said she was a wild one when she was young. I guess I know what they were called now. I still wonder how they wore the blades in their hair it just stuck in my minds all these years.
Society and media didn't approve of her doing it either. Her films where she was cross-dressing or going outside the norm of women's roles did poorly, her fashion choices were not received well, media considered her rude, arrogant, and provocative.
yeah, as stupidsminkle says, media NOW sees it as revolutionary and outside the norm in a good way bc of how times have changed, in a similar way to how pachucas are portrayed as badasses and pioneers here but that connotation was DEFINITELY not positive back in the day. we're looking at things through a modern lense, but it's not how the majorty of their contemporaries would have viewed it
I feel like this is historically inaccurate. WWII brought independence to women in America, both American and Chicano women pushed cultural norms because of this; the ability to make their own money and not depend on a man. The pachucho culture itself was not to rebel against social norms but to rebel against the stereotypes Americans had of Chicanos, such as lazy dirty hoodlums; during this time blacks were fighting for the same thing. The pachucho culture also had a lot to do with the lack of male figueres. Fathers, uncle's older brothers cousins were all doing their part in the war, and many of them died on Omaha Beach (something that has never been taught in American history). If you want true Chicano history, read Rodolfo Acuna Occupied America, a book that has been banned in Arizona and New Mexico.
Thank you! For this very informative video. That is the sad reality Pachuco' and Pachuca's are not really mentioned enough in greaser/golden era history. I'm liked dude where are the Latinas and Latinos from the golden era that I can relate to also. The only lady that I can think of is Lupe Velez but no one else. Well, Rita Hayworth is Latina but they made her seem more like a white girl. I'm not saying that it was bad since I am half Latina and half white. And I totally rock my version of the Pachuca hairstyle every day.
Thanks for posting this video. The women look gorgeous and classy. Love the hair style from that time period. Pin up look they had back in the days. Now ladies slap that hair back sooo tight and put in a ponytail. My hair curls in the back a bit like the girl in red hair..
I love how diverse we Mexicanos and Mexicanas are. We fit in modern day Wall Street to the work force to the "low life" aka low rider life. A true Mexican American family has blue collar people a couple of vaqueros (cowboys), a few people you think are white with blonde hair but understand no English, maybe a gangster or two, one that has a bad ass job with the big house that thinks he is better than the rest..... shit you name it... we got it... love my people... p.s. I love all of God's people I just happen to have a soft spot for "Raza".... they and you are all my hermanos y hermanas.
Gracias por poner esto, they asked me en mi escuela to make un Essay sobre algo impactante que paso en America, Y Yo decidi escribir el mio sobre Pachuco(a)s, Y voy a usar esto video como uno de mis sources. :)
Damn, Pachuca is the name of the city where i live, and I had no idea it's the name of a counter culture Here in mexico it's just a small city Saber es crecer
i love how they got the beautiful tan and beautiful pale Mexicanas to model the diffferent styles cuz in every mexican family you've got a guera and a morena
Jocelyn D. I cannot love this comment enough, we come in all the flavors! 🏳️🌈🇺🇸🇲🇽
I’m the morena
For reals I was the guera 😆
Well one of the girls is half Cuban!! That's african tan not native tan. I understand what you're saying tho.
they looked so bad ass!!!!
They look like strong gorgeous women, love the style didn't know the history , very interesting definetly going to look into it :D
Yeah, i didn't know that bit about the prostitutes, then again wasn't the flapper style similarly portrayed because the girls were "wild".
I know right? And you mentioned they were covered up AND they looked proper, basically they looked and dressed the same as everyone in the '40s, so I don't get that
***** Definitely
Yes, as Wake up And peace said , it was a racial thing. Often times latinas were potrayed (and still are) as promiscuous seducers.
Tony !!! The hair God so happy to finally see some good vintage hair
Flawless! as was the makeup & clothing...and models 8)
Ni de aqui, ni de alla is my entire life
I switchblade concealed inside a pompadour?? Shit don't play.
Yeah. When my mom went to school in California, there were some girls who actually did just that. They were the more gangbanger types, though, I think.
I used to hide a switchblade in my giant pompadour and occasionally marijuana haha
this was awesome. Mexican and Cuban,' man that's a strong' mix
Stunning, gorgeous, elegant, fierce.
Such beautiful ladies! love these kind of videos
Sometimes BF puts out really dumb shit... And sometimes it puts out lovely gems like this. Well done on the great fashion display and the history/heritage lesson!

it's basically buzzfeed it's part of it

great style and great callback to history!
Such STUNNING looks. So proud of the STRONG Latina women that came before us. Their bravery and struggle...incredible.
This style and their history should be much more widespread and well known than it is. 👏👏
I love all the info you gave along with the styles!!! These are sooo amazing and it's so cool to learn about.
I love learning this. I love my Mexican culture.
Pretty sure the pin up or rockabilly look was inspired or copied from Pachuca culture. Anyways, super proud of this video! I love that you're educating your viewers on Mexican-American culture #NiDeAquiNiDeAlla
I'm pretty sure is the other way around. Pachuca came from pin up

Ok, the Agent Carter show, but with Pachuca as the leading women.

I luv it ! I always loved the 40s and 50s hair, clothes, the Pachuco style both female and male😍
Please tell us more about the lifestyles they lived. I would love that
Those girls where born to model those clothes they look so confident and beautiful❤️
As someone interested in pin-up style, this gives me an entirely new subject to research! Thank you so much!
They look incredible, and badass. I'm here for their look and their story.
I'm living for their style and makeup, yaasssss!!!!
I’m pretty sure pin up models in the 1940s were influenced by these ladies with the hairstyles and what not.
awesome. love the style and meanings behind them
hey tú fuiste pachuco nadie te regañaba
bailabas mambo, tienes que recordarlo
Creo es "Hey pa, fuiste pachuco, TAMBIEN TE REGAÑABAN!"

Pachuca is the capital city of Hidalgo in Mexico. Also named Pachuca is the sports club in Mexico.
I love Pachuco fashion. I've watched this video so many times. Mi gente hermosa.
Because my family is from Hidalgo, I kinda expected/wanted them to wear a Pachuca jersey
