My brother and I had a 45 of the SJH version, back in the late 60s (I think). Being so young (12 or so), I thought it was the funniest thing I’d ever heard, I thought it was a joke. Imagine my surprise as an adult when I realized what a blues classic it is! Wish I’d kept that 45, dammit.
If you do not like Joss Stone’s performance then I guess you do not understand what Janis Joplin’s entire career was about. “Holding” on to notes, drastic changes in vocal volume, and vocal “fillers” between lines in the verses and refrain (chorus). That is how the blues and soul music use to be sung. It is called “weaving”. Starting in the 1960’s, this type of singing was replaced by the guitar. Joss sings like the way a female vocalist would sing in the 1920’s to the early 1960’s black blues and soul clubs. And Miss. Stone is a master at it!
Joss is an amazing artist with a voice second to none for sure! Heard her live in the early 2000s in Toronto at Massey Hall and she opened for Simply Red one of the best concerts I've ever attended along with seeing the amazing Buddy Guy twice.
Jeff was a singer disguised as a guitarist. Thus this mutual love with powerful vocalists. Joss really puts her emotions on display here, no matter what. Respect.
Jeff Beck filled the same musical space with his guitar that vocalists usually occupy. If you listen to his version of “A Day In The Life” you discover that the singing is completely unnecessary.
Robert Randolph is sure on another level on that steel guitar! If you have never seen Randolph play at Crossroads "The Thrill Is Gone" with BB King, Clapton, Jimmie Vaughan, and Robert Cray check it out. The crowd was in awe of the other players playing together and then Robert started playing at the end and they went nuts again.
Saw Joss Stone open for Simply Red in Toronto many years ago. She was so young then but ahead of her time already! Incredible voice and knockout beautiful too!!
Nobody can prowl the stage, challenging, tantalising, and simultaneously appreciating her musicians, the way Joss does. The tightest, yet most extravagant performance in blues.
yes, I asked the same thing. Maybe it was about using the whole of EC's band. Maybe she wasn't emotionally into it. Maybe she's got other things to do now, she's so talented. But I agree with you.
Had the same thought. I know she talked about doing a tribute to Jeff Beck, so I am certain she would have attended. There is probably a good reason for her not being there.
Angelina Jordan.
Son't worry Karl... I get it, In my opinion there is nobody who can touch Joss Stone's "I put a spell on you". I play the lead blues to her singing at least twice a week; as an act of worship. "The Church of Jossstonian Miricales". LOL
Many people attribute this song to Carlos Santana. But Carlos was covering what was originally a Fleetwood Mac song, written by Peter Green, the lead singer with the band at the time.
There’s been many great covers of this 1956 classic but this isn’t among them. Check out the YT vid of Angelina Jordan killing it when she was about 10 years old. Screamin’ Jay must’ve been smiling down on her.
Jeff was a great man who helped so many to be better than if he was not there to help them, great to see he has received the respect of all.
The lady certainly can sing and she was backed by a wonderful band.👍👍
You’ve GOT to FEEL it before you can sing or play it baby! Rock and Roll FOREVER. NO JUNK
Raw emotion rips us up
Way to sing it Joss Stone!!!
The half of God's band that hasn't left us yet paying tribute to one member who has gone.
Yes I do agree she is a great singer❤❤❤
Oh Astonishing Joss and others friends
Soulful strong .. great .
Love the way the band plays for the song. Just right. Enhances the singer
Yea. And Eric Clapton is just in the band and loving it.

Janis was the greathist 🥰
She sang her heart out.
I prefer Beth Hart tbh
@@andyhamlett8814 early Beth for sure. Not to say JJ was anything less than awesome. 😉
Jeff was a singer disguised as a guitarist. Thus this mutual love with powerful vocalists. Joss really puts her emotions on display here, no matter what. Respect.
yep. Same old barefooted Joss
Jeff Beck filled the same musical space with his guitar that vocalists usually occupy. If you listen to his version of “A Day In The Life” you discover that the singing is completely unnecessary.
@@chipsterb4946 If? :-) Ax how many times! Totally agree.
Yes, the great ones make the electric guitar sing! And, Jeff is one of the greats!@@chipsterb4946
love the sound of the slide, and of course the side view of the singer
Clapton playing behind Joss Stone on Screamin Jay Hawkins song..........wow.
Super !!!❤❤❤❤
The best voice! She is perfect!

I've never heard a pedal steel guitar played like this. It actually sounds like a pedal steel wah wah guitar. Brilliant innovation.
Superb Joss Stone slays this , Robert R with EC on rythym no pressure 😂 other worldly class musicians showing Jeff Beck respect
WOW!!!!!!!!!
Robert R is a Trip!
Maestros con una estrella.
Phenomenal!!!
I guessed it was Robert Randolph since I can’t name another pedal steel aficionado. He’s off the charts amazing!
Saw Joss Stone open for Simply Red in Toronto many years ago. She was so young then but ahead of her time already! Incredible voice and knockout beautiful too!!
Joss Stones voice is lovely 😍 and her dancing 💃 is sexy as it 😍 gets.
Robert Randolf is an amazig guitarist. J. Stone's vocal is very good.
She did a good job!
Excelente❤
I love it😊
Robert Randolph shines again!
Fantastic Joss Stone. Jeff Beck was the best.
Great version & great emotion! Joss Stone - also not from this world (exceptionally outstanding like Jeff Beck) He sure liked that! ;-D
The incomparable Joss Stone.
Whaou !!! the blues...
This is as sexy as it gets in my old fashioned mind
God dam what Vocal Power, where the hell has she being hiding.
Joss actually has been around for quite a while. Decade or 2 at least. She's a Brit so not in hiding. At home over there.
@@Lynnm1956 Right Ok, I must admit I am not up on the music as I was, she sure slipped past me for awhile.
@@mohuckmedshishkeblob1712 you're in for a helluva trip
Always have loved this lady.First time saw her with the bare feet and giving her all back 18 years ago. She won't short you.
Perfect!
I often wonder what it would be like to have a singing talent. Some screamers must wonder too.
Bravo❤
GURL!!!!!!
❤❤❤
Best singer we have, next to Beth Hart.
These phone recordings don’t do justice to anybody.its the Albert Hall
Agree with those 2 and would add Beverley Knight as my 3 fave female singers of the past 20 years
Just fabulous... I just wish it was a bit darker and more atmospheric!
In my humble opinion Josh Stone is the best "Emotional " signer since Joplin.
And t shirt Chris staton in the band what a talent he is.joe cockers partner for years in his band
Ray Drury.Sheffield.

Temperamentvolle und ausdrucksstarke Sängerin! Wer ist sie??
Joss Stone 👑 maravilhosa 👏🏽👏🏽
Magnífica ❤
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Sacred Steel tuning rocks!
shocking performance by Joss, there I also see bassist Nathan east.
That’s bc Joss performed this with Eric Clapton and Nathan’s usually always alongside him.
❤
If you don't like this, you ain't right
❤❤❤❤😊
Love Joss Stone!
Good for her!! So many people would have shit themselves, being on stage with Eric Clapton. Good for her for holding her own.
Joss Stone can hold her own with ANYBODY!
insane
👍❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Amazing lapsteel player
Pedal Steel.

Joss didn't put the shoes on, cool !
Joss always sings barefoot.
Joss 🎭 barefoot all the time ⏲️ .
Who’s the guy on steel?
He seems like a real joy to play with
Robert Randolph
Same guy who played with Clapton on Crossroads one year.
thanks
Melissa Etheridge, Joss Stone, Janis Joplin Tribute ! Stone is a showgirl !
Who is the singer? Wonderfull music.Wonderful interpretation.
The only thing I can do is say I don't know what to do with the person who is this one for the only thing
How come you turn the camera away while Eric clapton is playing a solo!!!
😊

I prefer the Creedence version

Screaming Jay Hawkins wrote "I put a spell on you ." I think you mean Black magic woman.

Merci. Too bad the audio wasn't up to the performance.
Maybe Janis's spirit has returned or oh my god.
This was a point when we knew the tribute was going down hill rapidly
That screetchy voiced woman destroyed the whole song. Give me John Fogerty and CCR anyday.
who the hell is that woman?
I find this woman a predictable, pretentious, one-trick pony.
