I’d recommend trying hard boiled egg yolk
When I bred angel fish and goldfish fry, I would hard boil an egg, take the yolk and put it in with a bag that had tank water in it and mash it up then take a syringe to squirt some of the egg yolk in the tank
The yolk is so small in it particles that the small fry could eat it
You just gotta do water changes a bit more often and not feed to much to not spoil the tank
Egg yolk is very high in protein and helps a lot in growth, you can also try to grow baby brine shrimp if you wanna go that route as well

    - Use low-current filters like sponge or UGF

    You rTank looks wonderful!
The smallest fish I ever raised were Siamese Fighting Fish, and they are very interesting. Someone here recommended egg yokes, and a book I read talked about straining them through a handerchief. There is products out there called, Liquid Fry Food that you could use, (Cory Aquarium Co-Op-Easy Fry). The secondary food for my Siamese Fighting Fish, and possibly would work at the start for the Sunfish, would be baby brine shrimp from eggs. I did not use liquid fry since that was 40 years ago I raised them, just went to baby brine shrimp, so lost most of the Bettas. The Bettas are so small that the newborn guppies ate some.
If you had a huge tank, and just a pair of Sunfish, my guess would be that the pair could raise them like Cichlids to.

Beautiful tank! I have kept green sunfish before, but with all of the organic materials in your tank (leaves and suchlike), how do you keep the algae and rotting detritus taken care of? How big is your tank and what type of filtration do you use? Right now I keep spotfin shiners, blunt nose minnows, banded and rainbow darters and a brindled madtom catfish in my tank, but no live plants.
    Thanks in advance!

i think many people fail to realize the beauty and value of these fish because they are so common and often one of the very 1st fish a person will ever catch... they are so abundant in shallow waters like ponds and rivers etc. People need to realize these are top predators when in smaller bodies of water. Also they are in fact part of the "bass" family which is a far more respected fish overall. I have kept both and dont see much difference in overall behavior...Love the lepomids species...
