A lot of criticism landing on this one. Yes, a miter saw would be the way to go, but assume for moment that he does not have the couple of hundred bucks to buy one or he is working in the field where none are available locally. His purpose may simply to show us how with practically nothing you can pull off a reasonable layout and create a pretty good miter without calling the boss and whining that I need a miter saw if you want this done.
i like the unconventional ways of doing things. The content creator is trying to encourage getting non-thinkers to finally think their way out of a bind if ever need be. The negative commenters on this post lacks an appreciation for applied science and math. Thank you posting this hack. Now, I don’t have to go buy another bulky tool.
That is the most work I've ever seen someone subject themselves to just to miter 2 pieces of pipe... get a speed square and a vise... or a chopsaw on a table... or eyeball it like a grown up lol
He didn't make anything harder, he knows his assignment, pulled off getting all you dummies to leave a comment how you could've done it way easier. Good job kid.
Metal chopsaw at 45° wins
Thats the most complicated way of cutting a 45° cut that i have ever seen.
If your foreman saw you cutting paper jigs at a job site, you'd be cutting paper jigs at home.
When you have all the tools and refuse to use the right ones
Id like to point out there are both Americans and Russians here on the comments wondering why this guy is making this task so difficult.

The rubber dipped grip gloves say it all. This guy welds in rubber gloves.
Nicely done😂

No need for the saddle on Cut hand-cut template, Swanson speed square give you 45.
