i watched her many time, she is typical athlete who produce spirit of optimistic and hard work in every event she done,, finally she deserved. Congrats Ruth.
Beitia is probably the most popular jumper, both with fans and fellow competitors. Her idiosyncratic style even gets the occasional mimic in the crowd (see the 2016 European Champs). But if you watch the competition _in toto_ you will see how much respect she gets from other jumpers. When Alessia Trost - a definite medal prospect - bombed out at 1.97, she made a beeline for Beitia and a quick consoling cry on her shoulder. Towards the end Beitia could be seen cheering her opponents on, something that would have earned her a warning in days gone by. That's why everyone likes her.
The determination of RUTH is legendary. Winning gold in Rio Olympic 2016, at the age of 37 years and in her 4th Olympic, is astounding and incredible. 👌👌👌👍👍👍
She would never have won if only the strongest athlete in the world at that time, Maria Lasitskene, had been allowed to attend the games. This is not a victory - it is a disgrace to the Olympic movement. And Ruth is certainly not to blame for this shame, but this medal should be hidden and not shown to anyone. You guys are all so rude. Stop complaining about the result of winning. Russia deserve to be kicked out. They always dope and lose Medals. Also, the American should've gotten bronze. The Croatian had to take 2 attempts at 1.88 and 1.93 but American sailed over them in her first try.
Joey Jerry "the croatian" aka blanka was under medication and in extreme pain during the competition and just because "the american" "sailed" over 193 in the first try doesn't mean she deserves the medal after failing to jump over 197. next.
God no, results are fair and correct, and rules are equal for all competitors, I see no reason why would they be different for americans. High jumping in wet or marginal conditions is extremely testy and while this final did not produce spectacular results in terms of heights cleared, I found it a mesmerising battle. It was totally different from the Heptathlon. When the surface is damp it becomes slightly harder and develops an certain amount of slickness to it. Of course all athletes wear spikes (even Donald Thomas now wears them) but it is still possible to slip. What's more, the surface was wetter on one side than the other. This should have favoured jumpers like Marie-Laurence Jungfleisch but she didn't have a particularly good day. What it did was sort out those with cool heads from the rest. Only Demireva jumped a PB (equal). The rest had to hold their nerve. There were genuine medal chances who cracked under pressure. Anyone who watched Kamila Licwinko at 1.97 - a height she would normally make - knew it was tough. You could see it in her face: her eyebrows were up and her lips were pursed. She was feeling it. I couldn't believe it when Airine Palsyte went out at 1.93. There were some very battered egos after this final and I suspect a not a few tears afterwards. What was really noticeable was the regard in which Ruth Beitia is held. She sat there throughout the competition egging her fellow competitors on - something which would have earned her a reprimand in days gone by. When another medal prospect Alessia Trost went out she made a bee line for Beitia for a quick cry on her shoulder.
