Good video. You can usually buy Maraith from the Black Marketeer. I really like the design of Maraith but I hate driving one. Good enough of a pal to hold you over until you get a Helzepher or a Pyrin Noct saddle.
I just frigging love this thing it looks cool, cute and mysterious at the same time. What it loses in tankyness and raw power it has in design I just wish it was a bit faster and more glidy with its wings. As for breeding, I been wanting to have a better one of these but I've found breeding traits I want pretty challenging for the reason it breeds like an early game pal and it'd be cool to have lord of the underworld or siren of abyss on it so I'm curious - what did you use for yours?
Yet another one for breeding I never thought about if I don't have the legendary bow by 23 I'll definitely breed this guy for kingpaca farming for the bow at the very least. Maxing him out? probably not but will come in real handy as a dark mount until shadow beak who can be bred really early also but is a level 40 or so mount I believe but even without riding him shadow beak especially his orb attack will quickly replace this guy anyway!
I think you could make the case for all the early applied damage pals. Chillet and Univolt are super early, then you can Segway into Maraith and Azurobe in the low 20s which should carry you to Pyrin at 30. The surprising winner for me is actually going to be Wixen: fire type is just superior, you get it super low level, and can run Roobies until you get gobfin. Once I can breed pals literally the entire roster opens up so I can just run the stat-superior Shadowbeak and afk fights.
I've got a habit of spinning up new toons when I get to the mid game. I must just get incredibly lucky, I can usually buy an early beegarde and Mozzi from that guy in Small Settlement. I usually get pretty lucky with finding early Dumund eggs too. I didn't have much luck with the early dumuds this time around.
Doing a Dark-only run, and Maraith is pretty terrible. Even Vanwyrm is faster than it. Helzephyr, Pyrin Noct, and Maraith have the same Dark applied percentages (caps at 20%). Maraith would have been so much better as a mount if it were either a little faster or could double jump in addition to applying Dark damage and its floaty jump. It's too slow to outrun attacks reliably. As soon as I got Pyrin Noct, Maraith was immediately sent to the mines. XD
Maraith is such a strange looking creature. I've never bothered trying to get its saddle as usually a Vanwyrm is my go-to for travellling until I get a faster mount. It's more of a pal deck filler for me.
Actually, I'm back to see if you've already investigated this or maybe plant the seed. Outside of legendary pals, what mount do you think would be best to build to just face tank damage? The Current toon I'm running I'm building to just be a limp wristed monster. Do very little damage, but I can just eat everything to the face and ask for seconds. My pals however, cannot. And that's a bit exaggerated. I can in fact tank pretty incredible damage, but I'm not unkillable. I do have to run and dodge and avoid as much as I can, just if I take two or three big hits in rapid succession without shields, I'll be ok, but not a lot more than that.

PS, lucky Cinnamoths ain't no joke. I tried to go after one and it took out a couple pals, nearly took me too. It chased me forever.

She looks quite cute, maybe it's better to have support moves so you don't have to tank too much

Ragnahawk has really got Def, shadow and Frost noct as well
Definitely Shadowbeak. It has the 2nd best defense of the game, after Paladius
