The SL500 is a finely crafted vehicle, I had the 1999. It burned up in a fire at my house.
Cos Mari-Ann was driving it The car took one look at her started to sizzle, then burst into flames at the sight of her.
My GF in high school had one. Fun cars. I had a 50 dollar car and she drove a Cabrio and a sl500. She was still one of the coolest people on the planet.
I am convinced that Mary Ann is truly the best vehicle presenter not only in all of Florida and the whole of America, but in the whole world, and thanks to her, each of these wonderful cars she describes, take on even more value and charm. !!!!!!!

@@Smarterthanyou-mthrfkr There are plenty of candidates for that with 10-20x the mileage. This one isn't really worth driving because of the massive depreciation it'll get. It may be worth more to the public to be preserved, displayed, and driven occasionally for future generations.

Service IS due. Mileage or months - typically every 10,000 miles or 12 months - whichever comes first - then repeat. BTW, it is not unusual to see these cars with low miles. I just got rid of my 2003 earlier this year. Although it was my daily driver and I was the 3rd owner, the miles were still very low. Unfortunately, like the tires, the electrical wiring and elastomers do wear out as they age. Still, a very pretty car. And I am sure it is lots of fun to drive.

Exactly. The singular giveaway is the centralised speedometer. New Mercedes lack that sports car feature and are too volume focused hence your comment on quality deteriorating.

D M The UK. In 2012 Mercedes made the decision to pursue volumes above quality and as a consequence dealers commissions collapsed for salespeople. Many left the industry for more lucrative markets, such as medical sales. It's debatable whether a prestige brand should diffuse its offering so widely. After being lent copious loan car Mercedes when servicing at a main dealer I've noticed them become more tinny and less sturdy with bling and electronic gimmicks forming the sales pitch rather than build quality. The C Class suffered major electrical issues and I believe electronics, bought in from external sources, form many issues across the range. Maybe a decade or more ago a salesman, one of the old guard, lamented the demise of Mercedes, and all car brands, as the product became nothing more than a method of shifting finance. An oddity in our finance obsessed world is Rolex who forbid interest free credit and, I believe, any credit deal, regarding these as ruining the brands exclusivity of being bought by those with the means to enter into its ownership process. Mercedes were once the preserve of the few who'd become successful and were proud to express it. Apart from a disastrous blip with rusting bodywork plaguing the brand they've maintained a process of originality and advancement with safety a priority. Now it's electronic safety which is commonplace in competitors. By diffusing the range and build locations, with quality issues, they've lost the wholly German production values. Such a shame for a brand that boasts, "Only the best", as its founding principle.
