I remember the first time I heard a Ray Stevens song. It was "The Streak" and it was on the Looney Tunes album. Then I found my mother's "Shriner's Convention" album, and wore that thing out. Over 40 years later, and Ray Stevens is still putting a smile on my face with his music!
Oh my I can remember back in the 70's either it was a special or Ray had his own variety show back then. I remember the Streak very well. My entire family was laughing uncontrollably from that skit. " Ethel is that you" ? "It was too late she had already been mooned".
Only Ray Stevens could do this and get away with it! 😂😂😂 Been loving his songs for 50 years. Will play them until I die, and want Mississippi Squirrel played at my funeral.
@@itzablackcat Yeah, well, that's comedy. You should be able to make fun of everyone regardless of who they are. And marginalized? They're the most catered to group in the country despite making up a tiny fraction of the population.

Luv him always. My faves are "Ahab the Arab," "Guitarzan," & of course "The Streak." On the serious side, I like "Mr. Businessman." I have always been glad to hear the parody songs of Ray S. & Dickie Goodman...so accurate 😁
Loved singing Margaret at karaoke. Used two distinct voices. Had a vice officer say I sounded like the type they catch when using the perv voice. Best compliment I had singing.

My grandfather loved Ray Stevens. I grew up listening to the Streak and others. Lol. Had no idea he was still making music. My grandfather would’ve had a good laugh at this one!
Ray has always been a household name for me growing up. I knew a set of twins who went to school with him. Then when I was a teen into my twenties, his dad brought his lawn equipment to the small engine shop I worked at. My boss asked him about his nice shiny pickup truck that Ray bought him. Then in my 20s and 30s I worked for his first cousin Glen. He has been a hero of mine for a long time. Folks say they knew him back when he was still a Ragsdale. God bless Ray and his great family. My mom and dad had a one of your albums and the "famdamly" would sit around and listen to it and laugh our butts off. I'm in my sixties and just found your channel it brings back good memories. Squirrel went to church is one of my favorites.
Love you, Ray! We used to take family vacations listening to our family favorites of yours in the car. It shortened the distance through western Kansas into eastern Colorado and back again. You and your music are a Class A act!

The first concert (?) I ever attended was Ray Stevens at the Lake Park (FL) Civic center in 1964 or 1965 (Memory is a bit spotty from way back then...)
He's the best! Can always bring a laugh/chuckle from you! In 1971, after "The Streak" I was sitting in our car feeding our one year old son when a streaker ran down the dragstrip & out thru the spectator parking lot right past our car! I laffed so hard because I could hear Ray saying "don't look Ethel"

Tell it Mr.Ray!!! I’ve loved you since I was 10 and heard the Mississippi squirrel revival, but this one is spot on!!! Rock on sir the eye roll was magnificent 🙄
This song is both funny and sad. He's used the names Bubba and Charlene in other songs. It reminds me a little bit of politics. Many candidates switched parties to get more support. Keep those songs coming, Ray. You're still my favorite singer.
My grandfather introduced my brothers and I to the music of Ray Stevens's over thirty years ago and now my Nieces and Nephew laugh along too--the man is a national treasure and I'm not being hyperbolic!
Keep it up Ray! Momma always talked about how you got my brother dancing, with Ahab the Arab, when you played at the Navy Base in Brunswick Georgia in 1963.
