Are fire fighters real heroes? They spend 8 hrs a day sat around playing pool ..and then occasional rescue a cat from a tree ...they have about 4 fires to attend in a year ?
This song was played at my friend’s funeral. I only knew him for about 5 months. We met at uni. He passed and his family invited all the uni friends he had. For some reason I got really emotional though I barely knew him… this song will now forever remind me of the amazing person he was, an extremely bitter sweet end.
@@rooh5825 He didn't create it but he played it live and he was a beast at it. His favourite song was Aurora so maybe he should be remeber more with it but this song fit him.
Thank you for this song. We played it at my husband’s Celebration of Life one week ago. He battled brain cancer for 20 months and was the most amazing, genuine man I’ve ever known. He loved this song and now it is sacred to us.
You never see his face, he doesn't think about his own desires or safety but helps others regardless of risk. No one hadto ask for his help. He doesn't ask for recognition or glory. He might look "ordinary" as Dave sings "He's ordinary!" But honestly, he's anything but ordinary in today's world. This is what heroes are. They are not flashy or attention seeking. This is yet another reason why I will always love the Foo Fighters.
I think it's not that he's ordinary, but that this is the kind of action that SHOULD be ordinary. If more people were like this, they would be commonplace heroes. Still worth praising, but all around us. It's idealistic, but imagine how much good could be done if every other person were like this.
My Hero was my Father's favorite, he was in the military unfortunately he died in Haiti in 2004, every time I hear My Hero I remember him. A very memorable song for me.
This is also my fathers favorite song, I'm lucky enough to still have him but this comment brought tears to my eyes as it made me think about how much it's going to hurt to lose him. I just sent him a text telling him I love him and thanked him for always being there for me. Thank you for this.
This song dragged me out of one of the biggest depressions of my adult life. I changed the lyrics when I sang it to "There goes my hero, watch her as she goes...". I made up my mind that I was my own hero. If anyone was going to save me, it was going to be me. I'm just as capable as anyone else.
Kurt challenged everyone to consider others thoughts and feelings and talk about depression Dave encouraged everyone after he died that life can actually mean something. That’s how I feel listening to this.
My dad died 6 months ago. He was my hero, my best friend. I miss and love you, Dad!!! Life just isnt the same without you. And to everyone here who also lost their dads and people you hold close, RIP.
Heather Dobrin I lost my dad when I was 14. I’m 26 now. It’s still al incredibly hard... I miss him with my whole being. This song makes me think of him.
That Guy I mean, like many music videos, the band doesn't exist to the characters, they are like omnipresent beings telling the story. If the hero in this video saw them that'd be like breaking the fourth wall
I'm so sorry for your lost, may your father rest in heaven until you meet again, remember, its not goodbye, see it more like "see you later" You will get thought this❤
In 2016, my father passed away, he raised me on rock, alt and all the good stuff. Now I get misty eyed whenever I hear this song. He was my hero, And I had to watch him go. EDIT: Seeing Shane Hawkins play drums for this song live brought me back here. I feel for that kid so fucking much. RIP Taylor Hawkins.
Dedicated to my little dog BOB who was with me for 11 years. Thank you boy. I lost my wife, my health, my job, my friends and he was my only company in Life. Rip my boy you are my hero.
My son saved us from a house fire and this is where my brain goes every single time. I love you Lil Jimmie. Without you none of us would be here. You’re the ultimate HERO
My hero, my brother died recently of secondary multiple sclerosis,This song reminds me of all the great time and the crap times ,My Bro is Raymond,Raymond Fox,and I struggle every day without you,This song will always yours my brother,my best mate, my inspiration, Thank you xx
This song makes me think of my dad, who did the right things because they were the right thing to do. At his memorial service, people told story after story of how he'd helped them, in big ways and small. Even without those stories, though, he was already my hero. He was a great dad.
I'm with you on that, my Dad was a high school counselor, I run to people all the time that tell me of the positive impact that he made on their lives. He is my hero.
"there goes my hero, watch him as he goes" unfortunately, from now on, this sentence will have a different meaning, a very sad one. rest in peace, Taylor Hawkins, thanks for everything you've done, and for all the good memories you left for us all these years.
@@kevindunn2663 yes he wrote it with him being in mind but as time progressed he thought it was better suited to tell people it was a song about heros. Hes literally is just embrassed and thinks it's tacky he wrote it with Kurt in mind initially. It kinda grew when he found he was able to apply the meaning to other people or heros he knew. But I've read from magazine articles and statements from guys who worked with Dave in the studio and they all say they know it's about Kurt they kinda just don't talk about it. Nevertheless Dave has admitted it to several people "off the record" no pun intended. To me that makes the song even sadder cause he's so humble and it's so personal to him he can't even admit what has long been suspected anyways
Temple Slug - millions would disagree. understandably your view is tainted by the obvious fact you love Nirvana. no need to criticise Dave for his success because you don't like him.
I was 12 Years old when this song released… it was a seriously formative part of my life. I had lost my grandfather and grandmother, my father was a drunk, my mother was working full time. I learned how to take care of myself to this song. Thank you, Foo Fighters!
2:40 I shed a tear hearing those drums come back strong for the last chunk of the song. What a powerful piece of music. Long live The Foo Fighters, and long live the memory of Taylor Hawkins
@@rooh5825 - No need to be a dick about it. Taylor joined in time for the release of "The Colour and the Shape" and then played on all promotions, videos and the supporting tour for that album. So unless you know the story about Dave actually recording the drums for the album prior to Taylor joining to promote it you could easily think Taylor had played on the recordings.
@@rooh5825 Maybe not on the original recording but he would've played it hundreds of times and more than anyone else. Not really the right moment or place to be making unnecessary, negative comments either.
@@shupershuff It's not unnecessary if its true. RIP Taylor Hawkins but the guy didn't play at all on The Colour and The Shape album. Everlong, Monkey Wrench and this song...yep that was all Dave.
The fact that we never clearly see the man's face in the clip (except for the scene in bathroom, but not even that one) really shows that anyone can be a hero. As long as there's good people left willing to do good, there's always going to be a hero. Our hero.
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood. Revelation 1:5 ❤🔥 Our hero
the fact that he comes from nowhere to arrive precisely when we need him and that he steals the woman's photo makes me believe that he is perhaps not a stranger to the situation.
Here after Taylor's son, Shane, completely crushed the drums in honor of his father. He did him so proud I'm sure Taylor is smiling right now. Dave Grohl was proudly smiling at him too. So beautiful and heartbreaking 💔 🥺

Everybody loves a hero. People line up for them…cheer them…scream their names. And years later, they’ll tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who taught them to hold on a second longer. I believe there’s a hero in all of us…that keeps us honest…gives us strength…makes us noble…and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady and give up the thing we want the most - even our dreams.

Don’t ever doubt yourself. You definitely have what it takes. The only reason you’re not a hero yet is because nothing is ever happened in front of you that you had to react to. If someone was in danger you would respond. Thank you Foo Fighters for making this song and thank you for making this music video
When I listen to this song it reminds me of my parents. I left college due to a lot of personal issues and ultimately lost a lot of people along the way due to my decisions. I felt so alone and such a failure. When everything seemed to be coming to an end, my parents put a hand on my shoulder telling me that they'll always be proud of me and love me. A year later and I'm back at school with such a better mentality and confidence. They saved my life when I was at my lowest. I owe them everything.
This is a powerful story. Tell it often and let it keep you going in the future next time you feel lost. Thank you for sharing it with us. You remind me of my son who’s planning a second attempt at college next semester after he’d given up hope.
Stay strong. Even at our lowest when we feel all hope is lost, I always try and remind myself that this feeling is only temporary, and this despair will not endure. Keep on going, because you're worth it. We've all got value and something to bring to the table.
"There goes my hero Watch him as he goes" I watched how my dad leaves our house, in a stretcher, scort by 2 men in white uniforms, he went to heaven with a smile on their face. He face his own death from cancer with no complains. I know he was on a big pain and never say a word. He was ordinary...

Hi I recommend a song and video that's called 'Life Changes' By Robert Nix
Rest In Peace, Taylor Hawkins. You were such a talented musician. We'll always remember and love you, Hero💔
You need guys like this when you have mothers that will leave their baby in a burning building to save themselves.
I think it's not that he's ordinary, but that this is the kind of action that SHOULD be ordinary. If more people were like this, they would be commonplace heroes. Still worth praising, but all around us. It's idealistic, but imagine how much good could be done if every other person were like this.

To think, he was once called the "Phil Collins of the 21st Century" and that's like, the perfect analogy to describe him.
Just thinking this ✌✌✌
I feel the same way...There's something very special about him as a musician and i can't help but think that he's channeling the spirit of Kurt Cobain in his music somehow.
