I work as a wine expert in retail and thank you for breaking down the vintages that we are still selling today! What about 2021? It’s being highly touted by most of the winemakers I’ve visited with recently.
Thank you for watching! The 2021 Napa vintage was a solid vintage. The growing season began with record-low rainfall and cooler early months, which delayed vine growth until mid-April. From there, a stable season with few significant heat spikes allowed for steady ripening. Despite one brief heatwave in June and a couple of mild surges in late August and early September, temperatures remained moderate. The lack of extreme weather, combined with cool nights, helped preserve the grapes’ natural acidity. Harvest began earlier than usual for both whites and reds. There were small yields and small berries, which resulted in concentrated flavors, higher tannins, and yet great balance. The Cabernet Sauvignon has been described as a blend of the structure of 2013, the freshness of 2016, and the richness of 2019.
