    I’ve always wondered if Tavel had a handshake agreement not to produce whites or reds like CdP. I’ve asked casually with some Rhone specialists like an importer of Domaine de la Mordorée but no one seems to know if the AoC restricts Tavel to only produce rosé. Really great pod and big agree that skin contact wine is hard to define now. I can understand why Ben and Liz don’t call their wine rosé or red. There are plenty of light Provence rosé that look like Grenache Gris which will categorize itself as a white wine. I think Italian nebbiolo rose is underrated and would choose that over an average $30 “baby Barolo” that doesn’t remind me of Barolo at all. The few still blanc de noirs I’ve had do drink like rosé but often times are quite flabby (personal experience) kind of like marsanne. I prefer BdN in sparkling/Champagne better than still. I enjoy Pinot with acidity. I’ve already shared this podcast with some friends. I am also a Virginia native and am surprised every day how many of us there are in wine.

    • @VintWineTV
      @VintWineTV 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That is a great question, as there are white grapes grown and included in many blends. I have included the list of grapes allowed in the rosés below. To be called AOC Tavel, the wine has to be rosé following the breakdown below. But there is no reason they couldn't make a white Vin de France aside from it being less profitable as it wouldn't have the Tavel name. I am 100% aligned with Nebbiolo rosés being excellent, and I also agree that many of the Blanc de Noirs that I have had seem to be flabby. In those cases, I assume in those wines, the grapes were harvested initially to be reds and they just pulled some to make a white. Thank you for listening and sharing! Great to have more Virginia connections! Styles and Grapes: Rosé - required 30 to 60% combined Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc, and Grenache Noir - up to 60% Bourboulenc, Clairette, Clairette Rosé, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Piquepoul Blanc, Piquepoul Gris, Piquepoul Noir, and Syrah - up to 10% each Calitor and Carignan (blanc and noir)

      Hi Guillaume, it depends on where you are based. I assume you are in Europe, and there, you can certainly find some of these wines much cheaper than here in the US. I would think you could potentially find the intro bottlings closer to that price point, but I am not sure if many would reach that price point exactly.

  • @mikebee888
    @mikebee888 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Ok nice, what's the prize of these wines? Can a "normal" human being buy those wines or is it upper class wines?😊

    • @VintWineTV
      @VintWineTV 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You can find many of these wines in the $60 - $100 range in the US (maybe less if you find a deal). There are certainly more expensive bottlings from each producer and Selosse's wines are all on the more luxury end. We are happy to help advise you further on finding some at your price-point.

    I work as a wine expert in retail and thank you for breaking down the vintages that we are still selling today! What about 2021? It’s being highly touted by most of the winemakers I’ve visited with recently.

    • @VintWineTV
      @VintWineTV 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for watching! The 2021 Napa vintage was a solid vintage. The growing season began with record-low rainfall and cooler early months, which delayed vine growth until mid-April. From there, a stable season with few significant heat spikes allowed for steady ripening. Despite one brief heatwave in June and a couple of mild surges in late August and early September, temperatures remained moderate. The lack of extreme weather, combined with cool nights, helped preserve the grapes’ natural acidity. Harvest began earlier than usual for both whites and reds. There were small yields and small berries, which resulted in concentrated flavors, higher tannins, and yet great balance. The Cabernet Sauvignon has been described as a blend of the structure of 2013, the freshness of 2016, and the richness of 2019.
