  • Are you looking to install an addressable fire alarm system, but aren’t sure where to start? In this video, we’ll explain just how to properly wire and connect an addressable fire alarm system, step by step. By the end of this tutorial you’ll have all the knowledge you need to smoothly and safely install an addressable fire alarm system.
To start with, it’s important to understand a bit about addressable fire alarm systems. This type of system divides devices such as detectors and modules into addressable points. Each one can be identified and configured independently. Plus, it allows for safer, simpler wiring - meaning it’s easier to identify problems and far more reliable.
    Equipment Needed
To get started, you’ll need the addressable fire alarm system itself, as well as the addressing device and the necessary cables. Depending on the size and complexity of your system you may need additional components. Make sure to consult with an expert to make sure you have everything Wiring and Cabling
The wiring of an addressable fire alarm system works a little differently to a traditional system that features two-wire addresses. With an addressable system, every device is connected to a loop that includes power and a data cable. To do this, you should use two wires - one connected to the positive terminal and the other to the negatives terminal.
Now that you’ve connected all the loop wiring, it’s time to make the connections. All fire alarm wires should be secured in place using clamps or straps. Keep in mind, the connection between cables should never be too tight -- you need to make sure there’s some slack in the wiring so it doesn’t overheat or become damaged.
    System Testing
Once you’ve connected the cables and the addressable fire alarm system is in place, it’s essential to test the system. This includes testing each of the devices and points to ensure they’re functioning normally. Additionally, make sure you’ve set up the right triggers and alerts in the programming of the system.

If you wanted to remove a circuit completely as in demo it...would it have to be deprogrammed at the panel first? What would you do?

Well, if you just removed the wire, it would throw a trouble on the FACP, so ideally I would remove all those devices from programming and then start the demo.
Or you can just work with the panel on silence.
Some panels you can jump start after you remove the devices without deprogramming them, but it’s good practice to just go ahead and remove them from programming.
For firelite/notifier if you have deprogrammed devices living on the SLC it will not give a trouble, but on farenhyt/SK they will show up as “extra pt” and give you a trouble.

Whats the difference between addressable and non addressable?

In other words, with addressable systems, all devices are connected to the fire alarm control panel by a single wire, but with conventional systems, each device is connected to the fire alarm control panel by a different cable.

This is wrong... With address able systems the devices are connected in a loop... So that should there be a break in the loop the devices can still communicate with the panel...and also each device has a specific address so that the panel can locate the source of fire specifically.
With a conventional system the devices are connected in a radial circuit. So the last device would only have on cable terminated. If there is a break in this circuit you would lose all devices after the break.
The panel also cannot tell which device has been activated, it just knows the one device on that particular circuit has been activated.

No, that has to do with wiring.
Class A has a loop back to prevent what you described but you can still wire an addressable panel as Class B, and lose devices after a break in the wire.
Addressable just means every device has its own address and label at the panel, which means that if the smoke in the first floor bathroom went off, you can see on the panel “Fire Alarm: 1st floor bathroom smoke” (or however it is labeled in programming). You can also T-tap an SLC (addressable input) circuit and still have the devices be monitored by the panel, you cannot do that on IDC (conventional input circuit).
For conventional it’s pretty similar to a NAC circuit, the smokes on it don’t have their own addresses and it’s basically just a normally open circuit with everything in a line. You cannot t tap these.
