Thank you Scotty! Your help is great! My husband recently fixed our 2009 Santa Fe 3.3! Check engine light was on, the ESC light was on constantly and AWD indicator light was flashing! Turns out, it was a broken wire that he fixed but also changed front struts, lower control arm (bushings were good), ball joints, new spark plugs (big pain) rear shocks, new tires in front(rear tires were great shape), replaced the horn (LOL from supporting our Canadian truckers this year-lol!). He also in addition to watching your vids, he joined the Tiburon forum online, and that was also helpful because this information seems to be out there, but not easy to find! Especially electrical! We have practically a brand new SUV that is older but it's paid for and we did it for a fraction of the cost rather than taking it to the garage! Thanks Scotty for being there and doing what you do!

My 1989 multi-port fuel injected sports car is already at the point where decent, high quality electronic control modules are NO LONGER AVAILABLE. Only "rebuilt" crap quality ECM's and other body control modules are for sale these days. Such bull crap to call them "rebuilt" !! All they do is stick 'em on a test machine for five minutes. If it doesn't start to smoke, they call it GOOD TO GO, stick in a box, and SELL IT!!!! That's where we are today in the automotive service world.

Yes, a 2023 model of a car that has been on sale for a number of years and has proved to be reliable can be claimed to be reliable, Apart from that. all bets are off. Great to see that the average car in the US is over 12 years old. It shows fewer people are swallowing the industry's b/s. We like our older cars here in England, too. The government is trying hard to force us out of them by taxing them to the hilt, emissions rules, etc, but we soldier on. Keep up the good work.

Hybrids have the combined cost and complexity of a battery system PLUS an internal combustion engine. And as an added bonus, you pay to maintain the engine. I have a ten year old car, a 20 year old car, and a 6 month old Camry hybrid. There is some risk with the hybrids due to all the electronics and technology but it is nice to have a full size car that gets 50mpg. By buying a Toyota I am mitigating some of the risk of expensive repairs. They have been making good hybrids for over 20 years. The 2nd gen Priuses typically lasted 200-300k miles. I think the major risk is in buying a hybrid from one of the other brands like VW or Hyundai that cannot even make a reliable combustion engine vehicle.

I wanted a new car for my family and saw it as the best value proposition since I needed a fullsize car and it's not much more than a non hybrid Camry. I recently bought a 1998 Corolla Seca as a cheap runaround beater. I bought it for AUD$1,500, gave it new front rotors and pads and new front struts. It has 238,000 kilometers yet it starts on the first revolution, the auto box works perfectly and the air conditioning is icy cold withe original compressor. It gets around 6.4 litres per 100 kilometres or 48 MPG! Why would I spend tens of thousands of dollars on a new car which will not be as reliable in any way nor as cheap to drive. I have a good SUV, 2010 Ford Territory, for long trips but for just running around picking up the groceries etc I use the old Corolla. It was built when Toyota was at its peak as a builder of reliable cars. One final point, I won't be paying for depreciation. A new $40,000 car will be worth maybe $10,000 in five years which equates to $115.00 per week just in depreciation. My old corolla will still be worth what I paid for it in five years.

Now the problem comes and how people ruin perfectly good engines is that manufacturers tell people they don't have to change their oil but every 10,000 miles well if your engine uses a cord of oil every Thousand Miles and you don't do an oil change every 10,000 miles and you don't religiously check the oil every thousand miles in your car guess what halfway to your next Oil Change you run out of oil and that's what happens to people and you wind up blowing up a perfectly good engine it happens all the time most people don't check their oil regularly and they only check it when they do an oil change but if your engine goes through a quart of oil every thousand miles and you never check it in 5,000 miles your engine is completely dry of oil and you'll find out when you're doing 70 mph down the highway and your motor blows up

What you failed to mention there Scotty is that a lot of times the fluid if it's not synthetic attracts moisture which it could be a matter of water. Water in the winter time we all know what happens the water so it could make it harder to Flow by freezing or getting thicker plus water does not compress. So the old fluid could be suffering just from moisture. But you are right after a flush and fill it could be a sign of the pump going out.

Huh? Of course hybrid cars are reliable. You can rely on the car needing a new battery some time before the car reaches 15 years old. More likely before it reaches 12 years old. If you buy a new battery, and have it properly installed in the car by a competent technician, you can rely on the market value of the car being less than or equal to the cost of the battery plus the cost of labor for installing it. To be fair, with the Toyota Prius for example, you can also rely upon little or nothing going wrong with the car and it being thoroughly dependable until it starts becoming apparent that the battery is dying.
