  • Bhuwan Atri’s journey from IIT D to IIM A to working in various notable organizations like Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Infosys, and now Sun Life Financial, we touched upon in part 1 of this conversation.
If you want to be in the top 0.5% of the corporate world like Bhuwan and many other CXOs, check out industry-relevant programs on AltUni that’ll help you develop skills to do just that - bit.ly/3QfnCyC

Continuing to tell us about working in the corporate sector today, Bhuwan shares how people should go about developing relevant careers and skill sets. Keeping in mind the idea of being future-ready, Bhuwan shares how one needs to think of careers in the long term.
Sharing his own mistakes and what he learned from them, he shares how he could have stuck it out at Infosys, taken the stock options, and received a great profit.
Bhuwan shares how software development is a skill that many need to get right. He shares how full-stack engineers earn a huge amount of money and how the market is open to people with these skills.
Talking about other up-and-coming sectors, Bhuwan shares how media, sustainability, and renewable energy, are the new frontiers people are interested in, and having these skills will pay out in the long run.
Bhuwan also talks about how to make career decisions. He shares how the goal of corporate life is to reach the upper rungs of management.
Telling us about his journey writing books on politics and intrigue, Bhuwan shares some insights into India’s political eco-system. He shares how politics is a career where your life can be completely ruined by one single mistake.
Oscillating between is political awareness of India, Pakistan, and other parts of the world, Bhuwan shares how politics is an extremely underserved section, with hardly any MBA or other graduates becoming political figureheads. Talking about success and failure, politics, corporate life, and more, this conversation with Bhuwan will make you laugh and wonder at the same time.
    Here are some highlights:
Many software developers today make 3 times the salary of an MBA graduate from the top tier b-schools.
Sustainability and renewable energy are important areas one can work in today.
All the money you make in the first 20 years of your career will probably be beaten by the amount you make in your 21st year.
If you need to take a salary cut to work on something you truly enjoy, don’t refrain from choosing it. Over a period of time, you are likely to make more despite the pay cut.
The whole point of joining a corporate organization is to build up your career to reach the senior levels.

The real strength of BJP is that it’s the only conservative/ right wing major political party in the country.
AAP , congress, DMK, YSR every other political party is left leaning and their votes share will always get divided on the other hand BJP remains the sole player of right wing politics giving the party more power than ever.

In one of decisions BJP made during 2014 elections was to turn the BJP's Lotus symbol to black and white from Saffron. The data analytics team inside found that a certain number of votes from the very illiterate section of society would remember the lotus picture instead of saffron colour. Hence avoiding pressing the wrong button there.

A worthy guest and discussion. But he also sounded like a privileged, rich, urban dweller. Politics does not make a difference to his life which is why it takes form of entertainment at times. At other times, it serves as an inspiration for marketing efficiency.
I am not blaming him. Everyone views the world through their own lived experience. But one can try and be more sensitive towards the lives of people on whom the daily, dirty politics has a disproportionate impact. We are not just voters and numbers, we are real people with real desires and motivations and dreams to exit this quagmire of political dirt we find ourselves stuck into.
Someday history will feature us too. Till then, happy being in marketing books. :)

MBA are becoming useless degree nowadays

    • @skmuzammilzeeshan6173
      @skmuzammilzeeshan6173 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I wouldn't say useless ...
It's more of a perceptive decision where the actual aim should be to give wings to a direction in which you already have propelled/veered your career towards, i:e your base, fundamentals or acumen for a particular domain or industry is already present, you just need to fine-tune your methodology or approach towards those things in order to yield better results.
Problem is in today's world, people do MBA to bag a high package Job and even without having any relevant industry or domain level experience... So here the expectation is MBA will solve all their problems for them and having acquired no particular taste for an industry or sector they often go for a generalised one, as a result few years into their Job, they understand it's not their cup of Tea, or they are lacking Job satisfaction or it's not motivating enough for them to come to work each day ... But unfortunately due to mounting pressure of study loan , house loan , car loan , marriage, family, children and blah blah blah, they are left with no choice but to silently continue their job against their own will and thus begin and join the rat-race...
For me, as a software developer I feel it's ripe time for me to learn and grow and inculcate and imbibe as much technical knowledge , industry domain knowledge, how things flow, what's the end to end delivery like, how to drive and close deals, stories, a product(Product manager kinda role) ... And with the market and the world placing more and more bets on technology to flourish and drive the industry 4.0 forward, I feel having technical domain level knowledge goes a long way into helping you become effective managers and leaders... I have seen a lot of managers with little to very low knowledge or technical expertise and how difficult and hectic it becomes for them to manage and drive things... Still most people are able to pull it off with constant zeal to learn and improve but yes having a domain level knowledge on writing code, being fluent in language used or having a technical acumen really is a plus point and an added bonus to being effective managers or at any leadership role. That's how you get a sense of how things are flowing, you feel connected and alive at your workplace and don't shy away from giving your 110% each day with equal intensity at your Job.
In a nutshell, an MBA is not something which should be done because everyone else around you is doing or some kind of peer pressure thing, it's something which should come very natural and organic to you... When you get that inner call that yes now that I have acquired a certain level of domain level knowledge and gotten a fair amount of industry exposure, doing a specialisation urf "MBA" in that particular sector or market area is only going to do good to my career and take it a notch higher where in I will work as equally as an enforcer(leader) as well as a learner (obviously learning never ends) to best leverage my experience and knowledge to propel growth, drive calls and help close deals, requirements , stories or epics...
The biggest mistake that most of the people do is not being honest to themselves... And I feel doing an MBA or preparing yourself for civil or any other competitive exams for that matter should be solitary call... These decisions which are so important to one's life , one's career like marriage or doing an MBA or enrolling for preparing for some competitive exams should always be one's own sole decision and not derived or be made under any external influence... Because at the end of the day, remember its you who gotta live this life and thus always bear in mind any decision that you take today will surely impact your future. Ultimately its you only who gotta live with it so be a little responsible and honest while making and committing to such decisions...
There's my two cents regarding if one should do An MBA or not or how important doing an MBA really is...
      Hope it helps. 🙂

@@skmuzammilzeeshan6173 you’re on point brother, but you do realise people nowadays do mba just to get rid of their 3.5 lpa package. Gone are those days when people used to work in a technical domain and then pursue an mba afterwards to improve their business acumen. @@InsideIIMKonversations Software developers earn more because they are worth it in a tech company. Whilst working as a product manager in fields of AI, system design etc. imo you are required to have proper understanding of the technical details. You might have great leadership and communication skills, but you will require deep technical understanding to complement your skills. Most product managers without such understanding are not respected even by jr. developers. In addition, in tech field a developer can undertake a manager role very easily without needing an MBA.

If you are not on field up to date with current tech, you will be laughed upon as a manager soon. Is it true that software engineers are earning more than a MBA grad from iims?

    • @Madrid_-xe6kr
      @Madrid_-xe6kr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      100% true,
In FAANG, a software engineer can earn double or more than double of what a fresh MBA grad from top IIMs, This is true when both are at same level, Software engineer would also be generally way younger as no master’s degree and no pre-MBA experience. MBA grad 25L+, Software Engineer:50L+, same level in company,
It has reached a stage where MBA can’t touch software engineer salaries in tech and the gap only increases with experience.
You would need to be a Senior Director of higher (which can take decades and handling huge teams and stress) to earn 1+CR in India while software engineers by 30 are getting these numbers, I know some of them and all of them are in tech,
It is even worse in US. A FAANG software engineer can earn more than non-tech VP of young startups .
      This is the absolute truth.
Coming from a person who decided foolishly to go into the management track. 😂
Also, forget respect if you feel you are part of management. Good tech companies make sure the tech and engineering talent is protected and given preferential treatment.
In tech companies which have become highest paying companies in the world: software engineers and tech talent rule it, Business, Finance, Operations, Planning, Marketing and HR is more like a support team 😅
If still young and earning money and chill job is only driver to take a decision: Quit dreams of IIM and start coding immediately.
I earn good amount for a decent life, (more than the majority) but half of my tech colleagues in my company with more experience,
