Okay true story. Our daughter was born in 1994. My wife and I picked out her middle name. It was going to be my wife's middle name, Elizabeth. We couldn't agree on her first name. Right before her last push I said how about Samantha. She agreed and Samantha was born. It wasn't until about 2000 while watching Bewitched that I realized we named our Daughter after the character Samantha Steven's and the actress Elizabeth Montgomery.
I absolutely love your show! I’ve never commented before, I was born in 1963 and I grew up watching all of the shows that you talk about and share a little bit of knowledge! Keep doing what you do because it’s absolutely fabulous! And for an old person like me to find out things that I didn’t know about the shows that I loved is a really cool thing.
@@BklynFlgirl Believe it or not, Dick Sargent was supposed to be Darrin, but was under contract elsewhere, and couldn't do it. Anyway, what are the odds both actors' first names were the same? Elizabeth didn't care for Dick York much, and was eager to be rid of him. It's easy to tell how enamored she was of Dick Sargent. She very much liked him. To be honest, they did appear well-matched.
YES.... More Bewitched.. I have lots of bloopers to point out especially since they spliced scenes because of the magic. The show was sponsored by Chevrolet. Darrin and Larry drove some of the nicest late 60's (now classic) Chevrolet cars.
Great job on the video! I do remember hearing about this and also the situation on Gillian's Island. And yes I would love to see you do more on Bewitched. I KNEW you’d like Bewitched if you gave it a chance! I’d LOVE to see more Bewitched content! It’s a goldmine of topics. So many characters, so long on the air, so many cast changes and an evolution from early 60s sophistication to late 60s psychedelic and more contrived plots. There’s also the theory that the show was “cursed”, since a number of actors involved with the show died at a relatively young age. “Fun” fact: I recently visited Agnes Moorehead’s grave in Dayton OH and plan to see Paul Lynde’s, which is also in Ohio.
Rick: I love to see you do more information on Bewitched! I do have ironic fact about your video! The Bewitched ploit episode celebrating exactly sixty years on September 17: 1964-2024! It would be fun if put video on TH-cam Channel just to celebrate the anniversary of the show? I thought I let you know about it right now and you have a nice day!
I absolutely love Bewitched and I will be forever linked to the show as I was born 1 year to the day after it debuted. September 17, 1965. Just turned 59 on the show's 60th anniversary.
A show has to be on air five years to develop enough episodes (100) for syndication. With that said, on those rare days when I took a "mental health" day off from school, I enjoyed seeing Bewitched (syndicated shows would be seen in the 9 AM to 10 AM block) as Bewitched was new to syndication in those days. My parents never watched the show and this was the only time I could watch the show.
I have always loved Bewitched. And I would love for you to cover it, Rick. I hope you will. I asked one time if you would do the Andy Griffith Show. And you said you didn't really watch it. Maybe give it another try. In the meantime, I'm excited about Bewitched ❤ You stay hopeful too, Rick. 🙏
Sheila's wealthy father was a client of McMann and Tate advertising agency. She wasn't just Darrin's ex gf, she was also a client, tangentially. Although, her behavior was anything but professional.
I was in the second grade at 2:30 pm when I first heard of the assassination of Kennedy. It truly was an event that put life on hold for many. Schools were closed, entire programming schedules on TV were canceled, everyone was glued to the television for updates. I even saw Oswald shot on live TV, and vividly I still sadly remember the solemn drums during the funeral procession. I understand that many television and movie productions were affected, including the filming of My Fair Lady.
HUGE lifelong fan of Bewitched, Rick! Glad you're giving it another chance! Interesting bit of trivia about Sheila Sommers (Nancy Kovak), in that a character in the 1967 Matt Helm movie "The Ambushers" there was a character in it with the same name - not played by Kovak!
Interesting History I was NOT aware of or perhaps forgot. Thank you. I was never really a fan of the show but learning some facts about it might be worthwhile if others think so.
Awesome to hear you talk about Bewitched as well as that you gave it another watch and enjoyed it. Thank you for the video Rick, I hope you’re doing well. Keep up the great work and take care!
Hi Rick. I had no idea about any rehearsal or shooting schedules. That event will forever be etched in my mind. I was in first grade and let out of school early once the news spread. All of us kids were wondering what was going on and then they told us. We were all outside and the world was a different place for a while. We watched it all on our black and white tv. I absolutely love Bewitched! It is one of my all time favorite shows and I still watch it now. Much more so then I Dream of Jeannie, although I love that show too. Yes to more Bewitched content. I did know all about William Asher though. Thanks for sharing this information!😊
I've been enjoying the black and white episodes now colorized. They did a good job on them. One of my favorites was "Trick or Treat" when Endora first turns herself into a little girl tick or treating in a gypsy costume ( played by little Maureen McCormick / Marcia Brady ) And then she turns Darrin into a werewolf. I was glad to see it in color. I didn't think of little Endora having red hair. Very cute. - I was four years old when Kennedy was shot. My grandfather was in the hospital after having a heart attack. Mom was just getting home from visiting him when she got a phone call that grandpa had died. Just before that we had been watching the news on TV about the President dying. I always wondered if He had his second heart attack that killed him, after finding out about the president. Did they have the TV on for him to watch, or tell him about what happened?

Now.. Let's visit a small town in North Carolina called Mayberry.. There's so many easter egg nuggets there, you would have to do an entire series on. Andy Griffith was extremely upset when he heard of the Kennedy assassination as well. This Ernest T. Bass episode was delayed in filming due to the assassination of United States President John F. Rick, I was just the opposite. I watched Bewitched, but not so much of I Dream of Jeannie. This was probably because my parents controlled the evening tv channels. I was 8 at the time JFK was assassinated and 9 when Bewitched premiered in September 1964.
I was only two when it happened so I have no memories of it. However, I do remember, I believe you, talking about the Gillian's Island situtation and had heard that Montgomery/Asher were friends of the Kennedy's. I had no idea about the Andy Griffith situtation. I imagine a lot of workplaces were disrupted due to that event. (Not unlike 9/11)
@bzydad oh I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to show you up. I apologize if it came off rude. I had no intention to hurt your memory. I was in the 3rd grade and they sent us home early.
@kaesiegrace4732 That was not my intention either. It made me look at my mom's children diary she kept on me. I actually went to school in the afternoon and I was picked up not soon after because of the assassination. Crazy times we lived in back then.
I found the original Darrin to be enjoyable. I do not believe the unfounded claims that the audience was unaware of the change in actors portraying Darrin. It is worth noting that Elizabeth Montgomery was one of the most aesthetically pleasing women to appear on television during that era.
I loved this show! I saw the pilot episode here on YT. After watching the show in reruns since I was a kid, it was the first time I watched it. Please do more Bewitched!
Unbelievable, the impact of how JFK's assassination hit the TV/cinema world. I've heard of other stories about the special effects of this episode, but nothing about the social background. Thanks for this!
Bewitched was great fun. Still is. Dick York was perfect as Darrin. The show’s cast was stellar. And the supporting players were so good. Mr. and Mrs. Kravitz, Uncle Arthur (Paul Lynde), Aunt Clara, Dr. Bombay, and of course Agnes Moorehead. I’m glad you decided to give it a watch, and I hope you continue to cover it.
Not a fan of the show but support those who are. It had a lot of really good talent throughout its run, which in turn had to have kept things interesting on and off the set. You’ll have backstage stories aplenty to share for sure Rick. This one was great and already I’m hooked for more! 😊
Please do more of bewitched. It is actually my favorite sitcom of the 60s and early 70s. You will like it. Just continue watching it. You will get a whole new fanbase if you do bewitched. Great video and all of your content is great.
Id be ok with seeing more of this what I really want to see is more Star Trek since I'm still watching that since October of 1987 while I'm here not only be hopeful love one another while your at it
Bewitched was one of my favorite TV shows. Endora may not have approved of her daughter's marriage, but in a pinch, when it counted, she always had Samantha's back. There were a few times when Endora even helped "Durwood" stay out of trouble or danger. Endora may have played a lot of tricks on Darrin, but, never going as far as totally alienating Samantha.
I was a HUGE fan of Bewitched when I was little. I LOVED the house. The other day as I was watching an episode of Hazel, I noticed that Samantha and Darrin Steven’s house was right next door to The Baxters!!! Then another day I was watching an episode of The Partridge Family and I saw both The Stevens’ home and the Baxter Home. I think this was called The Paramount Studios Homes, but I could be wrong. I would have loved to have actually lived in any one of these “homes”. I thought these homes were really nice for their decades.
Hi Rick; horrible what happened to JFK and one should seek RFK Jr.'s comments on the matter and be concerned especially now. Bewitched sitcom was taken from the 1942 movie; as I find with most sitcoms, the best shows are produced within 3-5 years. When Dick York left and from what I read, was not treated nicely, I lost all interest.
Gilligan’s Island was also filming when the assassination happened. **I just realized I first learned this from your video. I’m still going to add it because that’s pretty cool!!
Thanks for covering Bewitched. I grew up watching reruns of this show in the 70s and 80s and knew about it before ever watching I Dream of Jeannie. I would say Bewitched, in general, had more clever and entertaining storylines than Jeannie. Just my humble opinion.
I'd love to see more videos on this subject. Liz Montgomery's older son, Bill Jr., wasn't born until the next July (1964), so she wasn't too far along at this point. She was also pregnant with younger son the next year (hence Sam had Tabitha then), and then her daughter (coinciding with Adam's birth).
Another entertainment related subject on November 22, 1963 was the release of “Dr Strangelove “ movie and Phil Spector’s Christmas Album…both of whom tanked on initial release, but later became classics. Have a great day!
Hi Rick❗ A couple things: I am a long-time subscriber but haven't been watching videos 📹 due to many personal and stressful issues in my life. Anyway, when I first started to watch 👀 your videos 📹 it was because I love 'I Love Lucy', I would always ask you about 'Bewitched'--remember❓Just kidding; I wouldn't expect you to. Anyway, imagine my pleasant surprise when I came accross this video 📹. Thanks so much--I'm glad you are enjoying it. And, no, as much as I think I know about this wonderful show, I did not know this. Thanks agajn. And, yes, more episodes and facts, please 🙏🧙❤️‼️😮
Well, I could never figure out here why Darren never wanted Samantha to use her powers. I mean, he worked in advertising. Even before "Mad Men," we knew these guys were into all sorts of strange rotting-the-brain activities. Yet he didn't want to let Samantha help him get ahead. And he put up with Larry Tate, classic example of the Boss from Hell. I had to think Endora was right: Derwood was a stiff. (I mean, Tony Nelson was an astronaut, something genuinely exciting and interesting, and didn't want to screw up that.)
Absolutely with a doubt do more Bewitched!!! Love ALL your ILL videos and Bewitched was also one of my favorites. If you do there is certainly a lot of behind-the-scenes trivia for you to dig into. The passing of Marion Lorne (Aunt Clara), so sad she passed so soon, she was a riot! Also the passing of Alice Pearce (the first Mrs. Kravitz), again so sad. Sandra Gould was also good as the nosey neighbor but AP was better just in a different way. And of course Dick York leaving as the original Darrin. The last 3 seasons with Dick Sargent I was not too much a fan of. Nothing really against DS but by this time the show was also getting old. I think the original actress that played Louise Tate was unfairly let go. Anyway Rick, if you do start doing Bewitched videos I'm sure, just like all your other work, it will be awesome! Oh and no, I was not aware of the JFK assassination affecting the show. Thanks again for your videos!
I'm a big fan of the show, the b&w seasons were like a love story. I didn't know they were that close to John Kennedy. You should do more on Bewitched. I have wondered what you thought of the show.
I love Bewitched and would love to see more on your channel. I’m an oldie but I never got into I Dream of Jeannie. It’s just started playing on tv so I decided to watch it but honestly, I’m not really liking it just yet. I will give it a try though, but I prefer Bewitched!
Asher directed the birthday bash for JFK in 1962, where Marilyn Monroe "sang'. Elizabeth didn't meet Bill Asher until 1963, when directed her in JOHNNY COOL. At first they didn't like one another. That changed and they married. Liz got pregnant later in 1963 and had her first son around mid-1964. In future pregnancies, Liz fought to get them included. She said it was tough to do work arounds, in other words, film her parts to episodes that had already been done while filming new episodes. The same thing happened to Barbara Eden. They had to cover up her baby bump. I think the time a actress was clearly shown to be pregnant was Lucille Ball, but they couldn't use the word. Personally, I prefer BEWITCHED over IDOJ. I like IDOJ, but I find BEWITCHED more mature and dealt with topics like bigotry, acceptance, tolerance, and love of two people from different worlds. Let's admit it. IDOJ is very similar to BEWITCHED, which Liz expressed some displesssure about. She never held any animosity against that production. She was, however, not happy that they added Jeannie's bark-haired sister. It was a takeoff on Serena, Sam's look alike cousin. Liz patterened her after her own cousin who she were very close with. What was unhappy with is when Liz found out that Bill Asher directed IDOJ: FIFTEEN YEARS LATER. Asher said that Liz called him and let him have it. 🙂
I loved Bewitched as a child. Watching it now i like it up to the departure of Dick York. Dick Sergeant did not have the chemistry with Elizabeth Montgomery. Bottom line yes please cover this show. Thsnks!

Did not know this. Thank you. Would like to see more.
I was watching Saturday morning tv,Bugs Bunny, Captain Kangaroo and The Jetsons when they were interrupted by the news of the shooting. 😢
@@bzydad JFK was killed on a Friday.
Nov 22, 1963
@kaesiegrace4732 Well, it must have been morning cartoons before I went to half day kindergarten. Sorry for the mistake as it was 61 years ago 🤔🤷♂️
I liked Dick York as Darrin. When I was a young boy. I loved Elizabeth Montgomery!
Our family always watched Bewitched, my daughter, who was young at the time loved it. She ended up naming her baby Tabitha.
Bewitched Love my favorite one fan BIG🧹🧙💖💖💖💖
I have always loved and will always love the show!!! 😁💜💯
I personally like Bewitched and never knew this about the show. Thank you for all you do and share. God bless and stay safe.
I found the original Darrin to be enjoyable. I do not believe the unfounded claims that the audience was unaware of the change in actors portraying Darrin.
It is worth noting that Elizabeth Montgomery was one of the most aesthetically pleasing women to appear on television during that era.
Great Vlog Rick heard before about JFK dying and how it affected the show would love to see more vlogs on Bewitched
Original Darrin is the perfect casting for this role
As goofy looking as Sargent was, he's my favorite
I was a HUGE fan of Bewitched when I was little. I LOVED the house. The other day as I was watching an episode of Hazel, I noticed that Samantha and Darrin Steven’s house was right next door to The Baxters!!! Then another day I was watching an episode of The Partridge Family and I saw both The Stevens’ home and the Baxter Home. I think this was called The Paramount Studios Homes, but I could be wrong. I would have loved to have actually lived in any one of these “homes”. I thought these homes were really nice for their decades.
I liked both Darrins but Dick York was better.
We should all ignore Wormbrain
Bewitched is iconic and much beloved. You should definitely do more.
Interesting insight of Elizabeth being a JFK fan and friend.
Gilligan’s Island was also filming when the assassination happened.
**I just realized I first learned this from your video. I’m still going to add it because that’s pretty cool!!
Definitely do more “Bewitched”! I loved the show as a kid with Paul Lynde especially!
Paul Lynde is one of my favorites
Thanks for covering Bewitched. I grew up watching reruns of this show in the 70s and 80s and knew about it before ever watching I Dream of Jeannie. I would say Bewitched, in general, had more clever and entertaining storylines than Jeannie. Just my humble opinion.
Yes, I would like to know more of behind the scenes the back stories. I enjoyed watching Bewitched as a child
Bewitched, is still to this day, my favourite show ever! 💜
I'm a house haunting, cauldron stirring, broomstick riding witch.
I'm not trying to be rude but the males are warlocks not witches
No! At Hogwarts, yes, but male witches today have respect for the fact that women started the whole thing!
Absolutely love Bewitched. I always thought Elizabeth was so charming and beautiful.
I give it a yes… more Bewitched would be nice 🇨🇦
Another entertainment related subject on November 22, 1963 was the release of “Dr Strangelove “ movie and Phil Spector’s Christmas Album…both of whom tanked on initial release, but later became classics.
Have a great day!
i love love love bewitched
Please do more Bewitched. It's a great show!
Sam!
Bewitched is one of my favorites, always loved Samantha.
Yes, more BEWITCHED. BTW, the JFK assassination was the day before my 9th birthday. :(
Yes live Bewitched plz more I have also been watching Hazel watch your video all ways😂😂❤❤❤
More Bewitched Please! 😊
I love bewitched, please do more!
I'm a big fan of the show, the b&w seasons were like a love story. I didn't know they were that close to John Kennedy. You should do more on Bewitched. I have wondered what you thought of the show.
I loved this show!
Yes, please!!!
I love Bewitched and would love to see more on your channel. I’m an oldie but I never got into I Dream of Jeannie. It’s just started playing on tv so I decided to watch it but honestly, I’m not really liking it just yet. I will give it a try though, but I prefer Bewitched!
Yes, more of Bewitched.
Off topic, I know.
I was wondering if the diving bell from Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea reappeared as a small spaceship in Lost In Space.
I attended the same middle school and highschool with Erin Murphy
👍‼️
Bewitched Dick York was in extreme pain back pain from an injury and it was becoming worse.
The show gave York more th
Thsnks!
I also preferred Bewitched over Genie.
