This movie is still so incredible upon repeated viewing. The acting is just uniformly superb but the child actors are so astonishingly good. The fact that they are adorable and that this is offset against a backdrop of what is sometimes grotesque imagery just makes the movie extra special. The story is just so inventive, the set design incredible. There are some scenes that are just so truly inspired...every time I think of that scene with the mouse, the cat, and a magnet I can't help but smile inside. The intricate ballet of La Pieuvre cooking?

this movie is insane, I'm surprised more people don't know about it. I just happened to see it on my netflix feed, definitely deserves more attention. What a production.

I've seen that movie so many times, was one of my favourite flicks back in in the late 90s and early 2000s. Everything is brilliant about it, the actors are so great. Ron Pearlman in a leading role, Dominique Pinon as the clones and the diver is just so enjoyable to watch, Daniel Emilfork as Krank is just such a riot. The scenery, the colours, the music it just makes it for such a surreal ride. This movie deserved a lot more success and 20 years on is still in my top film list of all time. Even before Amelie and Delicatessen.

such an underrated masterpiece, the atmosphere, the story, I'm still surprised it didn't find a broader audience (language barrier maybe?).

I’ve tried to introduce this film to as many people as possible, I absolutely love it. Sadly, few will watch it.

The more I see of this movie, the more I appreciate it. At first it looked like it was trying to hard to be like Terry Gilliam, or The Fifth Element, or Dark City, etc. Though fairly similar, it's unique in it's own right. The casting especially. The kids are perfect, and the director knew what to get.
Great movie, that needs to be watched a few times to truly see its own merits.

I am and have been completely head over heels about all of the hard working efforts that have been put into this entire film from a far off land!!!

It baffles me how this film did so badly in making its money back, it's probably the most underrated film on the planet to be honest, I saw the trailer, and thought it looked so atmospheric, and interesting, did it just have a big lack of promotion? I have no idea, I do however remember back when I was younger seeing it was playing alot on cable, Cinemax mainly I think.

It is so strange to see the actor who played Krank smiling and happy. What a very good video, even if I can only understand bits and pieces of what they are saying. Je sais un peu francais. Non pas trop.

So do I. There is an interview with Jean Paul Gaultier on the Special Edition DVD. It's even online, but I can't link to it... You know what I mean?

I have a hard time trying to decide what genre this movie should fall into. Is it comedy? Yes. Is it sci-fi? Yes. Is it fantacy? Yes. .. What is it???

Like Spirited Away, which only makes sense as a child's dream, or nightmare, (they say all dreams are nightmares) this film is also the dream of a child..or...many? So, what category? Make up one.

sclogse1 Most children don't do LSD, so i would say it is from the dreams of adults, i would guess.

Straight horror, a film that deals with more different forms of child abuse - as part of a society, than any other.

Is the conflict between Jeunet and Caro that drastic that the former strikes out the latter from this documentary?
