I would have bought the DOGE/LTC at the same ratio as you would have mined them, rather than splitting evenly. Whatever the ratio of LTC/DOGE is, that is what I would have put into each coin. In this case, I would have bought more DOGE and less LTC.
Yep based on how close the profit still was buying 50/50 it looks like buying using the same ratio as mining would have been more profitable at the present moment (except maybe with taxes, I didn’t do the exact math)
As I say, there are endless different ways of calculating ROI. One issue with doing the ratio like that is that LTC had a halving a few months after I got this miner. So do I split it the way it was before or after that halving. Also do I split it by dollar amount? As in today I mined (for example) $10 of DOGE and $2 of LTC? Because then the ratio would change literally every day as profitability of the 2 coins fluctuate against each other. I just bring this up to say there’s a million different things that affect this stuff and equally many “correct” ways of calculating stuff like this.
You need to calculate opportunity cost. When you get an ASIC, you are locking yourself into a particular coin for a long time period. When investing cash, you have more flexibility and can shift your investment into a better trending coin at any moment. Locking yourself into a coin is a risk that has a cost.
