Excellent video! Really appreciate how you did this as a step-by-step tutorial, so that other collectors can follow this same process and create their own playsets. Nicely done!👍
Great video, I admire people who have the means and ability to pull something like this off. If only sets like this were made today, over some of the high price crowd funding stuff from big companies, that would be amazing fun sets with a feel of vintage, but expand the original lines relatively cheaply.
Sooo much decisive detail! This is great coverage. Thanks for the info on paint pens. I was always leery of using them on plastic, but now I know it’s safe. And magnets…Oh….magnets go to custom toys like bullets go to guns! Brilliant!

I had the original cardboard playset. Fun in its own way. My GI Joe team stopped Cobra from launching that missile almost every week. Even when I played Doctor Who with my figures, Cobra failed in their launch attempts. Your custom looks great. Fantastic job. I am envious of this community's ability to work with paint and glue. I work with printed tab and slot assembly cardstock paper models because I can print it out in color and not get glue or paint a over me. (Like I always do)

Turned out great! Those Toyhax stickers really made the computer parts look amazing. Really does look like a good version of the old Cobra Cardboard base. That playset looks like it'd be great to customize as a service bag for a Halo Mantis. One bit of advice- DUPLICOLOR AUTOMOTIVE SPRAY PAINT FOR PLASTIC AND VINYL is what you want to use on any custom. It comes in a bunch of colors and bonds to plastic, vinyl and even rubber! It's amazing for customs and can be a perfect universal primer coat- taking acrylics without any problems. I keep a can of black and one of white for primer now (though I love that Tamiya for models).
I really enjoyed this video. The discussion of your thought processes as you worked through the build were really excellent. I've been stacking up stuff to customize into JOE vehicles and playsets for a while, but I wouldn't have thought to look for this set. So many of the cheap items have great sculpts, but use such cheap, shampoo-bottle plastic that I shy away from them. You've convinced me to order this playset and add yet another project to my already too-long to-do list.

I use the same craft/dollar store paint when I'm painting terrain. I just add a little water or paint thinner and it goes on much smoother. Any that set looks fantastic. Its simple and quick and I'm very happy with the results. Especialy since its great for hiding tiny f**k ups my old hands just arent up to anymore. Its simple and quick and I'm very happy with the results. Especialy since its great for hiding tiny f**k ups my old hands just arent up to anymore. A lot of people do a wash last but I like to do a second dry brush last to cover up any staining from the wash on the high areas. I get a little too heavy doing washes sometimes. 😂😂
I love your use of magnets btw. I got to try that in the future. I use toyhax as well.
Awesome!!
Looks good man 😀👍

CHIMMY!!! Thanks, my dude!
Looks great, but since you do customs i was wondering if you made a custom Fumbles/ Trouser Snake?
😂 I actually have all the parts and the buck for him, yeah. Just didn’t get to that figure yet. I have piles of stuff waiting to be made into customs
I think the playset needs some color breaks. I would paint all the girders cobra blue and add bands of cobra blue on the rocket. Also, I would have primed the computer consoles before stickering. Just my two cents…
That’s the beauty of customs - you can do whatever you want.
