    At age 60, I remember this all so well. And, I remember that most women were homemakers. Shopping, kids, cleaning, yard/gardening, cooking, entertaining the husband’s boss and clientele, helping cultivate community outreach, volunteered, attended church, members of PTA....on an on. They were expected to act and present themselves in a certain way. Their husbands climbed the corporate ladder, many families “transferred” multiple times. Women acted as CEO of the household, budgeting and coordinating family events and Holidays. Go a step further, they are chauffeuring kids around to cheerleading, gymnastics, soccer, and making sure these kids were prepared for school, safe at the bus stop and did homework with the kids. Fast forward a few years.....do you know how many were taken care of OR taken advantage of? They were systematically divorced and traded in by their husbands for a younger woman. So how is this supposed to work, you are dumped, have no social security of your own, you were never compensated or really appreciated for your contribution. If you are one of the few that gets a reasonably fair deal, and some alimony for a limited time then you still have to navigate trying to keep your head above water, prices increase, medical care increases and women end up trying to work jobs at very low pay grades just to survive (not to mention dealing with corporate ageism). Women need to make the best most informed decisions, for every decision there is a positive or negative outcome. The world has changed greatly, but women are subject to the same BS we were in the 70’s. Women who want to be at home Mom’s should be celebrated, it’s hard work. Always have a backup plan, access to your own money and keep up your skills and continuing education. There are programs to help women achieve, grants and such. Do what you can to protect your life, your rights and your freedom to VOTE!

      I agree with you 100%! Women should have education, a profession and financial independence as well as a loving and supportive community already established around them. It is absolute folly for a woman to invest her whole life and the well-being of her children on a romantic relationship with a man, which can fail at any time or he can die, or become disabled or become addicted to drugs or abusive etc. Motherhood has zero to do with being financially dependent, uneducated and unskilled.

    I love how this show openly portrayed the complexities with Feminism and women's rights. People tend to group feminism into these reductive stereotypes, but the movement has a complicated history surrounding civil rights, abortion, and gay rights as not every person involved in the movement agreed on these positions.

      @@michaelvasquez1355 Actually the courts ruled last year that the all male registration system is unconstitutional and the National Commission recommended that women sign up, just the C19 virus and now George Floyd are in the front burners of Congress. However, they can stop registration as it is meaningless as they can obtain the names elsewhere more efficiently. Keep in mind women are in combat today and have been during the entire War on Terror so if women can join they can be compelled or men can't be compelled. Actually the National Commission is calling for a total re-gutting of the draft laws as they realize no one can be forced into the military, won't work.

    • @janefelix3821
      @janefelix3821 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaelvasquez1355 Yes but the only justification on allowing women to be exempted was that the military did not deploy women into combat areas. Now that the DoD dropped all gender restrictions and not only formally requested women to be added to increase the pool they even stated that not having women hurts the country. While the National Service Commission's report will not be used in this case, the DOJ is not justifying the constitutionality of excluding women, they are using technicalities to stall, knowing they have no legal argument. This is the 3rd time the National Coalition of Men brought suit since 2013. it was dismissed twice, once in 2013 since the DoD was still studying women in combat and once in 2017 since the plaintiffs lived in Texas and Louisiana but the case was filed in San Francisco. Essentially the Commission's report, 255 pages, states that it is pure discrimination to exclude women and robs the country of its total talent. If this case goes against the NCM, then the next case will use the Commission's report, which was tailor written to end the all male system. It not only says that women should be added, calling it blatant discrimination, but that there are numerous non-military alternatives which the person can do, thus allowing to opt-out of the military.
      Given that Joe Biden will pick a female VP running mate and there is a high chance that he may not last the term, if elected, there is no way society will accept a female leader and a Congress that is close to 30% female and allow for blatant discrimination of men based on a statue that is over 40 years old. That is one of the reasons why there has been zero talk about a draft since 9/11 even though there have been more troops deployed now than in either Korea or Vietnam, both of which claim to have needed conscription. Keep in mind in the 1970s there were no female Senators and maybe 5 in the House. Also, it was not until 1976 that the Service Academies accepted women.

    • @janefelix3821
      @janefelix3821 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Liberty AboveAllElse There are men's rights groups. They were the one who had the ruling against selective service in 2019 which is currently being appealed. They also factored into the National Service Commission's report that any future conscription should be coed and the report clearing states that excluding half the country is hurting our national security.

      Also fear makes a mess of things. Phillis saw the WRM as a threat & a power grab and rather than contacting their leaders and trying to understand where they were coming from she jumped straight into attacking. One of her biggest fears of the ERA was the draft, as it was still in existence in 1972. However, we don't have one, nor is there any talk of one, nor can one be done today. She feared women in combat, like the 300,000 who have been deployed since 9/11. The DoD deploys women. Also, had the courts, in 1981, ruled against the all male system, the Senate Armed Forces committee said, in advance of the ruling, that they would not require women, they would dump the system. So with an ERA, selective service would never have come back.
    As to single sex bathroom, coed scouts, funded abortions, that all has come without the ERA, just took longer.

Like PS or not, this series is basically giving the exact opposite optics of what went on with PS. Rose Byrne just said PS was never home with her kids during all of this. Really? She had her last kid in 1964 or 65 and didn’t take on the ERA until 1972. She home schooled all of her kids until they could read. They portrayed her in Mrs. America as leaning on her husband for her choices and finances. She sold 3m books from just 1 of I think 26 books she wrote just before taking on the ERA. I’m thinking that was a lot of income that SHE earned and in every biography her husband supported her decisions 💯. They also portrayed a strained/resentful relationship with her mother. Just a complete lie. I watched a couple breakdowns of her debates of the show vs what really happened. The show spun them the exact opposite. Like she was unprepared and couldn’t answer questions even panicking. This is an attempt to rewrite history. PS is being grossly misrepresented.

    No problem with ERA with an Equal Responsibilities Amendment. No more quotas and no more excuses. I'm all for equal opportunity with equal necessity for proven competence for any needed position. That includes fairness and equal rights and penalties in courts as well. Favoritism and racism must then be eliminated on all sides. The old school feminism for equal opportunity is certainly correct; however, the recent 3rd wave feminists do NOT want equal rights but indeed want quotas, favoritism in court, blatant federal funds exclusively for being a woman (such as business ownership grants not afforded to males), and certainly do NOT want to be forced into military conscription at 18 years old like males. No more awards, nor grants, nor scholarships for any group designation whatsoever would be a true ERA; it would have to be based on proven competence and would have to be only in private institutions to avoid public conflicts of interest. Somehow, I never hear that responsible part of equal from feminists screaming "believe her" or "me too" with no proof whatsoever from decades in the past disregarding juris prudence or established laws for accused in court when it comes to many men (Duke lacrosse players and so many others proven falsely accused had NO lawful rights in court while false accusers received no punishment for ruining innocent lives). So bring on ERA, I dare you third wave feminists! The abuses of false victimization would also then come to an end and perhaps hypocrite 3rd wave feminists will not like that. True honorable women and men would love a bonafide equal and respectful world which would show the plethora of lies to all like unequal pay in 2020 which has several factors beyond false calls of unequal prejudice.

We BOTH felt like Schlafly was scared that her lifestyle and other housewives of America would lose their exalted place in society in the post war 50's and 60's as - after all- isn't that what our boys and men fought for???? The government pushed the agenda to end the war, come home and marry your sweetheart, raise kids, have a home, get a car and travel around America. Yet many, many women wanted the personal stability of having a job, taking care of themselves and not being an appendage to their husband. Schlafly spoke like she wanted American women to give up their self-worth and turn over their security to someone else. I was not a fan in 1973 of hers and think she did a disservice to many other women by not finding a middle ground on this issue.

      @@lesd1051 Thank you for your reply. My take on her work was different. She grounded human self-worth in the Judeo-Christian ethic. One does not have to be a Jew or a Christian to recognize and appreciate the value of this paradigm. People made in the Imago Dei have worth at conception. No person can bestow it to us, we are endowed with it. Men and women are different but equal. There is a complementarity between the sexes which makes the union (marriage) of the two greater than the sum of its parts. Does a woman or a man have to marry to realize their fullest potential? NO! Phyllis taught about numerous leaders who never married, yet she still valued marriage as the nuclear center for all of civilization. Much of the Women's Rights Movement rejected these premises and that is what Phyllis fought against so vociferously.

    Sadly the ERA is not going to help women.

      Kate Oelerich what kind of help do you think women need?

      Irene Klein I don’t think women need any help but I do think that the ERA is going to hurt women more then it will help us.

    Shirley Chisholm was as thin as a rail. The actress playing her here...not so much.

      Yes, it is disappointing that they could not choose another fine African American actress who resembled Ms Chisholm in size.

      Why does size even matter? Have you seen the show? The woman who plays Shirley does a amazing job. That’s all that matters.

      This comment's the reason, amongst the other cancer comments here, why feminisms as movements are still so damn important. It's disheartening to see how so many still don't get that.

    LOL, Steinem and Friedan didn't want to debate Schlafly anymore because they didn't want to give her anymore airtime... Hah, You mean they were tired of getting their -sses kicked by a much smarter woman with real answers and facts. And I don't think Phyllis was rude about it, she was just so much smarter and more prepared than the Feminists. My favorite Phyllis line was "I just don't understand why they would want a woman like Gloria who has never been married or had a child, talking about marriage and children." Classic.

      @@CopyAndConversations I think you improperly called "opinions" facts. But that happens on the Liberal MSM all the time, so maybe you come by it naturally. I don't know what burns you reference. But my opinion is that Phyllis "burned" every Liberal, Feminist rat she encountered, left them mumbling to themselves. Great example of a real Woman.

    This is an unfair and biased show against Ms. Phyllis. There is very little truth to this show. I'm glad this did not pass.

      Tyrell Anderson ERA was not a religious debate but a legal one and Schlafly’s side won it with flying colors.

    Phyliss was a hero. The Netflix show about her life was dishonest to say the least. ERA has been renamed GAY RIGHTS 👎
