I love so much how Chet is this cocky, abrasive, wannabe-ladies-man goofball, but in these genuine moments with Orym, he turns into a simmering bowl of oatmeal.
It’s his age and irreverent attitude of “I’m ancient and I don’t give a FUCK lol” that makes him so approachable and perfect to talk to about these things. I mean look at the Team Wildmount arc, you see Chet’s backstory including a (mild spoiler) old flame and that story. Then in episode 69, Chet becomes the first BH member that two other members reveals their DTR status to.
I love how Chetney and Orym have these moments together. These, as well as the moment Orym tries to calm Chetney down by showing off his work-in-progress of a carved wooden wolf. Really feels like these two little guys got each other's back emotionally, despite their backgrounds and motives being so different.
I'm doing C1 re watch and Vax STILL breaks me I'm all always like DONT TAKE THE DEAL.. YOUR GIRL AND PIKE HAVE TRUE RESURRECTION THEY DONT NEED A BODY YOUR ASHES WILL DO, AND THEY ARE FILTHY RICH THEY GOTTA LONG REST IT ANYHOW GO ON. TRUST YOUR FRIENDS... DONT BE THE RAVEN QUEENS BITCH FIOR ETERNITY..lp
Idk what it is but Liam just this way of making your heart break with him characters: I wept for Vax'ildan, I feel sorrow and redemption for Caleb and the heartbreak yet always hopeful for the better from Orym. I love all the Critical Role gang but none have made me cry as much as Mr. O'Brien has.
I love Orym so much (like, my first car that I bought, a red Ford Focus, is named Orym because it’s my little red moon). I feel seen as a gay person who has deep trauma but still fights to do the right thing no matter how hard that is.
Liam's characters never fail to break my heart. Vax'ildan, and his inevitable fate. Caleb Widogast, and the tragedy of his past, and his road to peace. Orym; the hopeful, despite everything. I love all of the crew for everything they do. But Liam O'Brien and his characters are something I strive to be as good at creating, whether for TTRPG's or writing, or anything else.
Totally agree 110% - it's a well and good to make a fun character, or an optimal character, or to make a funny character, but to make characters that are such a beautiful example of the human condition and the ways characters can break your heart with absolute sincerity makes these characters so unbelievably valuable to me 💕
1:28 Oh my god that made me tear up so badly. The way Chet immediately went so serious and quiet and the expressions on everyone else's faces and Liam...Just being Liam. These guys are so incredible.
It occurs to me upon a rewatch that another scene you might include at a later date is from Episode 19 (Omens Above), when Orym asks Ebenold Kai if he can reposition his telescope to look at Catha... and spends 20-30 seconds just gazing longingly up at the moon.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 66 IN THIS COMMENT Looking back at this just makes me think. If Chet is Orym's dad, all of this could be a much deeper connection that maybe just Chet suspects of

It was sooo sweet, I could almost see Chetney's change in demeanor in my mind watching them in this scene

And this is why Vax, Caleb and, Orym are my favorite characters. All because of the great Liam O'brien. Absolute legend.
Totally second that 💕

I do too 💕

It definitely makes the “Chet is Orym’s biological dad” theorists ravenous as well.

I am 110% the same - best tragic stories that are sooooo good! 😢
But they are also relatable tragedies in some ways. Which is why they hit so hard.

Roses are red,
Berries go in pie;
Liam's characters break my heart
Though I cannot fathom why
💕💕💕

There are many, many reasons why Liam is my absolute favorite player at the table - this just beautifully illustrates those reasons..

I love Chet getting so genuine in these moments. They’re honestly beautiful.
9:00 Liam acting was so good in this scene that I started to wonder if his real-life partner was dead
If chutney turns out to be his dad I swear to god those moments will make much more sense
I have been waiting for someone to do this, and this was so beautifully done!
MY NAME IS WILL, ITS LIKE THEYRE TALKING ABOUT ME OMG IM BLUSHING
