Retiring March 1st aged 60 - my hand has kind of been forced as had planned on going around October this year. My worries and anxiety were sky high, but every single person I've spoken to has said to retire, and I'll never look back
Thank you so much for this. As somebody who wants to move on to the "next phase" (I'm 58 and 3/4) it has given me so much food for thought and an understanding of the preparation needed to make the jump. The thought of retiring is scary but the thought of not retiring until I'm not well or fit enough to properly enjoy the post work era, is unthinkable.
Went at 54 and now just completed 2 years of retirement. Every worry you have mentioned also went through my mind, however would highly recommend it. Stay fit, keep socially active, set yourself a budget and then go for it. Time to do what you want can’t be bought back. Good luck 🤞🏼
Hi Rob. I'm 56 on Saturday and been watching a lot of these type of videos which probably explains why yours dropped into my suggested list. I'm wrestling with the same questions. I'm sure I could afford it now but I'm not 100% ready to stop working. I'm not particularly enjoying work it's more the fear of the unknown. I'm thinking of 60 but this is just arbitrary. I really have no idea so looking forward to seeing how this develops. Good luck.
I also watched and read a lot. Just remember nothing is guaranteed and read too many stories of people hanging on to add a little more to their pension, then getting sick! What’s helped for me is having a “succession plan” in place because I have no intention of just putting my feet up and watching TV!! Good luck and make sure you know what “enough” is!
This video popped up at the right time (thanks, algorithm!). You’re slightly ahead of me, both in age (I was 59 last month) and in stage. I’ve already decided I’m not working past 60 but am rapidly coming to the decision to resign from my job in the next few weeks. I can manage my budget on my pensions, but for travelling (I love a cruise!) I will need to do some form of work to cover the cost. I’m just feeling really scared about taking that leap!
50 here and I'm looking at perhaps 62 - would like earlier, as you can never tell what the future will bring, we'll have to see. As to what I'm thinking of doing, well I'll raise doing nothing to an art form.
I retired at age 61 last year.Thankfully I was paying into a good pension scheme so expect to be okay until the state pension kicks in at age of 67 . The tax free lump sum allowed me to clear the mortgage and be debt free.
That's exactly what I'd like to do in 2 years, then work another 2 years max to try and refill the tax free cash in some way either by isa or into my sipp
@jamesandrob yes good thanks. I have an adult son staying with me currently and lots of interests. I run the property management company for the block of flats I live in, but that is voluntary not paid but gives a sense of purpose.
Key phrase “felt comfortable about retirement”….its an individual decision. Everyone is different….hey at the end of the day if you don’t like it get a job. I’m 60 too and half way through my first ‘year off’….
For me, who retired after 38 years working for the same company, it was scary until I engaged a Certified Financial Planner. He confirmed I could really afford it. In fact, as he pointed out I could get the same income from my pension as I had working. You sound like you have a plan, but maybe you also would benefit from a CFP to give you the confidence you are not missing something.
Anyone else planning on retiring this year?
2.5k a month is similar to a professionals take-home pay, & given your mortgage is paid off that should be sufficient.
@ fingers crossed. I hope I’m over over estimating!
James and Rob. Life is a short trip. Enjoy it.
@ we are trying to!

Exactly my thinking. We’re just moving into a new phase of our lives. Exciting times

So true. Are you enjoying retirement?

I hear you! But life’s too short and we never know what is around the corner! Good luck with your decision

lol. I’m trying to learn that! It’s definitely a skill!

Great plan. How are you enjoying retirement?
Sounds like a plan. It’s important to know what is “enough” though and (apparently) we all need less than we think in retirement!

@@roycampbell3472 Sounds good. Keeping busy and having a sense of purpose is important for me!
Don’t fall into the trap, money isn’t everything. Time is
So true
Are you retired? What age?
@ 55
@ zthat’s great! Hope you’re having a great time
Got told once and it stuck, you can replace money but not time. You can always earn money but you can’t decide on your time.
Why is 60 considered early retirement? I am 51 and want to retire next year, I feel fortunate and grateful more than any other feelins
I always thought I’d retire at 55 too but here am I at 60 finally doing it! I guess it’s early considering (in the UK) retirement age is 67!!!
50 here on track for 57 if the gov will let me. Can't wait
Sounds like a great plan. Just don’t wish the 7 years away. Time goes too fast!

Having been self employed for ever I doubt I’m employable lol.
Dont need a purpose. Rest, relax, travel. Enjoy the fruits of your labour. One life. I retired early abroad, Geo Arbitrage. Smarter not Harder
For sure. I guess it’s a mindset shift that I need to work on. Happy retirement!!!

Good advice ! Hope you’re enjoying retirement
I wish! 😊
60 is not early to me, 40 to 50 is early. :)
True but I suppose I was comparing it to the retirement age in the Uk of 67
You got the money why is it a risk it’s not you can’t buy back the time
True
Sounds like you got a quid, im sure you'll be right....
Hope so!
Fxxx retirement at 60 you won’t get them years back get out as soon as you can 55 tops.
Too late. I’m already 60 lol
