Just one note: I usually haven't, however as I age and get moremature, I now disconnect the Spark plug wire ( a 1 second [keep my fingers] ) precaution.
1st step is pull cord slowly till you feel the second stroke of compression resistance, valves are now closed. Tilt exhaust side down on an empty/low fuel tank, enough to reach bolt, not all the way tilted over. Spark plug wire pull is good safety practice.
